    NotesPleix is a virtual community of digital artists based in Paris

    -Pleix is a community of digital artists (graphic designers, 3d artists, musicians, etc.) who are now quite famous

    -one of the characteristics of Pleix: they don't have a studio, they work from home. What was at first a constraint (not enough money to rent a studio) beca me a

    style of working enabled by the internet and the phone. When they have to work for clients, the productors rents studios for them.

    -"One of their first and probably most iconic project isBeauty Kit, a series of short movies that sarcastically "advertise" shiny beauty kits for little girls. There'sone complete with scalpel and anesthetic spray for breast augmentation, another one to allow them to do their own liposuccion or facial reconstruction.

    The project started with the discovery of the work of artistDana Wysewho makespillsembedded with miraculous properties, there's one to "teachyourself german in one hour", another to "understand contemporary art instantly", etc. Pleix liked their playfulness and irony of her universe and offered to make a

    video for her exhibition. She liked it but felt that it wasn't her style. Pleix kept the work for themselves, uploaded it on their website and it toured the festivals. "

    -Pleixfilms are always beautifully done and satirical in some way. This Beauty Kit project is a series of short movies which advertise do-it-yourself surgeries forlittle girls. The ironic combination of real life images with painful comical instructions exhibits the kind of satire Pleix films usually have.

    -He presented theirpersonaland commercial works. Personal as in "developed by members of the Pleix collective for their own pleasure" and opposed to workscommissioned by clients. The later financing the former.

    -7 guys met, liked each other's work, founded the graphic art collective in 2001 and uploaded their works (2 or 3 videos at the time) on a website which they defineas their "virtual gallery". And that's it. Digital word of mouth did the rest. They define themselves as grafic designers but also as "media and television sponges",

    they are not trying to denounce the phenomena that they observe but they just identify trends and translate them in a playful way. Sometimes there is a political or

    ethical message, sometimes it's just an artistic research.

    -Among the films of Pleix, Beauty Kit is a freezing series of commercials for a kit of plastic surgery for submission to the little girls: miniature mammary

    prostheses provided with microphone-scalpel and instructions, necessary for liposuction or nasal surgery unpacked by enraptured girls. In the same vein, E-baby

    -We do not want to carry message, to play the sanctimoniouses. We are simply a little sponges, inspired by all that surrounds us. \n\nPleix is a collective of

    In 2001 I was 11, Danesh was..10? so we were the age group been "discussed" in this video. Neither of us believe at this time we felt this pushed to grow up to

    fast or been so obsesed by appearance. However today we see it every day when we look at kids of the tween age group. Infact now, in 2013, we are even

    adjusted to images such as these. MAking Pleixs video just as relevent over ten years later.

    Just imagining kids playing with these 'toys' to make themselves look like grown-ups.

    I was expecting to see make-up kits, not surgery kits.
