Product Characteristics

Water Hammer of Prevention: Because it is aided by a spring, a Wafer Check Valve is almost closed before the flow reverses reducing water hammer. If a special high torsion spring is used and the valve is mounted horizontally, the Wafer Check Valve will operate silently.

Low cost Installation: Traditional flanged Swing Check Valves are heavy and therefore require special foundations or supports which are expensive. Wafer Check Valves on the other hand are relatively light and can be installed directly on the pipe without any support whatsoever. Most of traditional Swing Check Valves do not close properly with the disc hanging slightly open. The plates in the Wafer Check Valve are light and are held in the closed position by a spring. The Wafer Check Valve may be mounted in any position from horizontal to vertical.

Lower Pressure Drop:

The open area through Dual Plate Wafer Style Check Valves is about the same as through Swing Check Valves. The Plates in most of Swing Check Valves don’t open fully, so the clear area is in the shape of a crescent. The bridge across Dual-Plates Wafer Style Check Valves reduces the clear area by about the same amount. The big difference between the two styles is in the amount of energy required to open them and keep them open.

No Slamming: Because of the spring, Wafer Check Valve plates start closing against the flow before it stops. The flow, therefore, cushions the plates and slows them down, which prevents slamming and reduces water hammer.

Seat Leakage: Our products, the Dual Plate Wafer Style Check Valve, is tested to API-598 which has a metal to metal seat permitted seat leakage of 3 cc/inch of bore/mm (water test) or 700cc/inch (gas test).
