“At the core of the narratives are people, sharing leisurely activities or in celebratory rituals and pag-eantry. There is a heady joy in whatever they do, whether at work or at play. There is a communal spirit of rejoicing in all the simple things in life that they have and cherish.

You can feel the strong connection between Man and Nature (envi-ronment), between Man and birds/animals. The camaraderie among the people is all about simple, honest relationships.” - Ooi Kok Chuen

“Tew Nai Tong loved life so much that for the past few decades, he has never ceased to reflect the joy of living of the common peasants in his arts.

Picasso once said,”The cane in the hand of God is used for canning the artists!” The more complicated the society is, the simpler Tew’s arts are. Most of his art portray clas-sical touch and emphasis such colour like orange and earthy yellow. Indeed, his paint-ing require monumental efforts especially the portrait expression. At the same time, he also must command linings and colors in a uniform and harmonious manner. “ An art creation must be able to satisfy the artist first before anything else.”

“Tew is slightly older than me. We have known each other when we were in our 30s. Once he came to Tainan in Taiwan to look for me and I can’t remem-ber why he looked for me, it could be mere anity. In my impression, he has in-depth passion about arts. He very simple and down to earth does not chat very much and draws what he could draw in his pursue of arts. He would perceive carefully and start to draw only when he gets excit-ed with the scene.”
