Once upon a time, a very long time

ago, on a wonderful small island, there was

a young man called Captain Tamoul.Around this island, the sea was turquoise

blue and it was inhabited by multicoloured

fish. On the dry land lived many incredibleanimals: giant tortoises, invisible lizards,

and white birds, speeding as angels do

Captain Tamoul was a generous and

brave man. He spent all his time protecting

the wildlife and the flora of the island. He

had no house; he lived on an old boat called

La Grandire.

Cpitanul Tamoul era un om curajosi generos. El i petrecea tot timpul avndgrij de animalele i plantele de pe insul.El nu avea cas; locuia pe o barc vechenumit La Grandire.

He had heard that there were many beautiful things on earth and he wanted to

see them.

One day Captain Tamoul thought

that it would be a new and exciting experi-

ence to go round the world. Being a brave

man, he decided to sail in his old belovedboat.

After a few adventures due to his old

boat and the big waves he wasnt accus-tomed to, the captain finally sighted land.

He had arrived in a country whose

language he didnt speak, but whose warm

and kind people made him feel at home. Itwas a country with blue sea, but this was

actually called the Black Sea. It was thecountry of the Dracula legends, with majes-

tic mountains and emerald fields called

Romania.

Soon, the captain decided to embarkon another adventure, but not before he took

a souvenir from Romania the puppy of a

shepherds dog, which was white and curlylike a snowball. And soon afterwards they

became very good friends.An old boat, a captain, a puppysailing on the seaWhere would they stop

next? What would their next destination be?

Era o ar cu o mare albastr, darcare era de fapt numit Marea Neagr. Eraara legendelor lui Dracula, cu munimaiestuoi si cmpii de smarald numit

Romnia.Curnd cpitanul a decis s se mbarcentr-o nou aventur, dar nu nainte de a luaun suvenir din Romnia celuul unui cineciobnesc, care era alb i crlionat ca unbulgre de zpad. i foarte curnd dupaceea cei doi au devenit prieteni foarte

buni.

O barc veche, un cpitan curajos, un

celu navignd pe mare unde se voropri oare? Care va fi urmtoarea lordestinaie?

Captain Tamoul turned in the direction of

the other side of the Black Sea, as,

impressed by the unique greenness of theBlack Sea Region, he steered his way

towards the Bosphorus. While he was

passing through the Bosphorus, he wasfairly charmed by the array of colours which

adorned the darkness of the night. However,

the passion for adventure in him kept

making him stop to watch the splendid view.

On the strong wind, he passed the

Dardanelles and met with the limpid water

of the Aegean Sea. Although he wasntclose to the coast he was sure that he saw a

very big horse. He thought it must have

been the Trojan Horse that he had heard

about, but hadnt seen before. He realized

the pigeons, which were flying over Mount

Ida and carrying olive branches in their

beaks, were coming closer towards him.

Suddenly, a pigeon left a branch of an olive

tree and quickly flew away. With an olive

branch, the symbol of peace, in one handand the rudder on the other, he moved

forward into the glorious Mediterranean

Sea.

Cpitanul Tamoul a pornit spre cealaltparte a Mrii Negre i, impresionat deculoarea verde a regiunii Mrii Negre, eli-a croit drum ctre Bosfor. Pe cndtrecea Bosforul a fost ncntat de paletade culori care se putea observa i noaptea.Pasiunea pentru aventur l-a fcut s seopresc i s admire privelitile splendide.

Cu ajutorul vntului puternic el a

traversat Dardenelele i a fost ntmpinatde apele limpezi ale Mrii Egee. Dei nuera aproape de mal el era sigur c a vzutun cal foarte mare. S-a gndit c trebuies fi fost Calul Troian despre care auziseattea lucruri, dar pe care nu-l mai vzusepn atunci. El i-a dat seama cpescruii care zburau deasupra Muntelui

Ida i purtau crengi de mslin n ciocuri se ndreptau spre el. Deodat, un pescru aaruncat o creang de mslin pe barc i azburat repede. Cu creanga de mslin,simbolul pcii, ntr-o mn i crma ncealalt, el s-a ndreptat spre MareaMediteran.

De ndat ce a intrat n Marea Mediteran el i-a dat seama c apa era mai caldi avea nuane de albastru deschis i verde. Deodat a vzut un grup de frumoi delfini

albatri i gri, care sreau n jurul brcii.Tamoul a realizat c unul dintre ei purta ceva ngur. Temndu-se s nu fie un crlig, el s-adecis s-i urmreasc. Delfinii l-au condus ntr-un loc din nordul Africii numit Melilla.

Oh! Arat ca un ora de pirai! aexclamat Tamoul. Era un ora medieval cu o

fortre, un golfule numit golful Galapagos iun far foarte frumos. Plajele aveau nisipul alb,

ca al dunelor din deert i copiii fceau baiefr s fie nici un pericol, deoarece apele nuerau foarte adnci.

Pe cnd se pregtea s acosteze s-antmplat un lucru foarte ciudat. Un ru lung ifrumos de meduze l-a condus ctre un alt loc. Atraversat marea ctre continent, spre Spania,

la Motril.Tamoul auzise de faimoasele apusuri de

soare roii de la Alhambra, de cauzele acestora, de grdinile i mprejurimile arbetiale Albahicinului, aa c a mers spre Granada.

Acolo a fost fascinat de o frumoas femeie cu ochi mari i negri i zmbetulperfect. Acolo a petrecut una din cele mai frumoase perioade ale vieii sale i cnd atrebuit s plece din nou iganca care i furase inima a plecat cu el.

Tamoul s-a ndreptat ctre Oceanul Atlantic cutnd noi aventuri, dar aducndu-i aminte i de frumoasa lui insul, Reunion.

As soon as he sailed into the Mediterranean Sea he realized thatthe water was warmer and its colours were blue-ish and green-ish shades.

Suddenly, he saw a flock of beautiful blue and grey dolphins, which

jumped around the boat. Tamoul realized that one of them was carrying

something in his mouth. Being afraid it was a hook, he decided to followthem. The Dolphins took him to a place in the north of Africa, Melilla.

Oh! It looks like a pirate town! Tamoul said. It was a medieval city with a fort, an inlet, called the

Bay of Galapagos, and a beautiful lighthouse. The beaches had white sand, like desert dunes, and chil-dren bathed without any danger since the sea was not very deep.

When he was preparing to dock, something strange happened. A long and beautiful river of purple

jellyfishes led him to another place. He went across the sea to the mainland of Spain, to Motril.Tamoul had heard about the famous red sunsets of the Alhambra, its sources, its yards and the Arabic

neighborhood of Albahicin, so he went to Granada.

There, he was fascinated by a beautiful woman from Granada with big black eyes and a perfect smile.

There he spent the best time of his life, and when he had to set out again, the Gypsy who had stolenhis heart, went away with him.

Tamoul set course for the Atlantic ocean, seeking new experiences, but with the memories of his

Din fericire pasagerii au zrit unpescar citind o carte, cruia i-au cerutajutorul. Dup ce i-a adus pe mal, btrnul le-a povestit c se aflau n Capul Sagres, unloc din care n secolele XV i XVI,navigatorii portughezi au plecat spre toate

zonele lumii, descoperind noi continente,

cucerind noi pmnturi i trasnd noi rutemaritime. Le-a artat apoi cartea pe care ocitea, volumulLusadas, n care autorul, Lusde Cames, i slvea pe navigatorii dedemult, povestind aventurile lor. CpitanulTamoul a fost att de ncntat de acestepoveti ale unor fapte temerare, nct l-ainvitat pe btrn s li se alture n aventuralor, iar acesta a acceptat cu bucurie.

Au navigat apoi de-a lungul coastei

Portugaliei, pn ce au intrat pe Rul Tagusi au putut observa de aproape Belm Toweri Mnstirea Geronimos. Au continuat apoicltoria pn n partea nordic aPortugaliei, unde au ajuns la Rul Douro. Aicis-au bucurat de priveliti noi- TurnulClrigos, Mnstirea S, i o barcspecific zonei Douro, numit Rabelos. Dupce au gustat bucate tradiionale, din burtde vit, au prsit Rul Douro i au intratapoi n Atlantic, pe care au continuat snavige ctre alte meleaguri.

After several

days sailing in theMediterranean, they

finally entered the

Atlantic Ocean where

the water becamecolder and the waves turned huge and dangerous.

Suddenly a strange and mystical fog appeared

and la Grandire ran aground on a big rock.

Luckily they found an old fisherman who wasreading a book. The old man went immediately

to help them, and told them that they were incape Sagres where the Portuguese, in 15th and

16th century, sailed from, towards everywhere

around the world, discovering new continents,new lands and new maritime routes. He then

showed them the book he was reading

Lusadas written by Lus de Cames where the

author praised all the Portuguese navigators andall the adventures they had during those days.

The old fisherman spent one long day explainingall the Portuguese discoveries in those centuries.Captain Tamoul became so thrilled with all those

amazing stories that he invited the old fisherman

to join them in their adventures,- obviously the

old man accepted.

Then, they sailed around the Portuguese coast

until theyd entered on to the Tagus river where

they could see Belm Tower and the Geronimosmonastery. Then they continued their trip,

heading along the Portuguese north coast, until

they saw and entered the Douros river. Herethey could see the typical Douros boat

Rabelos and the Clrigos tower and a huge,

majestic church S. After having a typicaltraditional meal of tripes they left Douros river

and once again entered the Atlantic Ocean where

they continued to sail

pentru a se apropia s vad mai bine. Dup oplimbare pe plaj, n jurul faimoaselor stncis-a ntors pe vapor cu un souvenir, obucic de roc calcaroas i neted,asemntoare cretei.

Apoi cpitanul s-a gndit s vizitezei Londra i a pornit n cutarea EstuaruluiTamisei. Rul era lat, mlos, iar peste tot seauzeau ipetele pescruilor. Curnd arealizat ct de flmnd era, cci nu maimncase de mult. A ancorat i a plecat ncutarea unui loc satisfctor pentru a-ipotoli foamea. Deodat, un miros delicios i-aumplut nrile i mergnd dup aromaapetisant s-a trezit n faa unui platou cucod i cartofi crocani n sos srat - acrior.Minunat! Acum era gata s explorezeprivelitile i monumentele simbolice aleLondrei- Cldirea Parlamentului cu

impozantul Big Ben, Turnul Londrei i chiaroamenii ce stteau n capsulele din OchiulLondrei. A avut o zi plin i interesant.

A doua zi, dup un sios mic dejunenglezesc, Tamoul a auzit din nou chemarea

oceanului. S-a decis imediat s se lase nvoia valurilor i a pornit iar la drum. Dar ncotro? Ce lucruri extraordinare l maiateptau?

The Atlantic Ocean was stormy andchoppy, but captain Tamoul was fearless and

sailed on. He journeyed around the coasts of

Spain and France, crossed the English Channel

and eventually headed to England. In thedistance he saw the gleaming, shining white

cliffs of Dover. He was very curious so he sailed

up close and docked his trusty ship so he couldget a closer look. Whilst walking around the

famous cliffs he took a small piece of the dusty,

smooth chalk as a souvenir.Later on Tamoul decided to see the sights of

London, so he set off in search of the Thames

Estuary. The river was wide and muddy and

there were squawking seabirds everywhere.He realised he hadnt had a bite to eat for ages

so after mooring his boat he decided to search for

something satisfying to eat. Suddenly a richdelicious smell filled his nostrils and made him

even hungrier. He followed the aroma and wassoon wolfing down crispy battered cod and fluffychips covered in salt and vinegar. It was

amazing!

Tamoul was then ready to explore some ofLondons famous landmarks. As he sailed along

the Thames, historic buildings such as Big Ben,

the Tower of London and the Houses of

Parliament loomed over him. He also waved topeople sitting in the capsules of the London Eye.

He had a busy and interesting day.

After a tasty full english breakfast the nextmorning, Tamoul heard, once again, the call of

the ocean. He decided he had stayed too long and

it was time to set sail once more.

Dup cteva discuii cu pescarii din port, aneles c se afla n Finlanda, cea mai nordic areuropean. n Aland a mers la pescuit. i dorea o

prad bun i din fericire a prins un uria somonde Atlantic. Dup ce a plecat din Aland, s-ahotrt s viziteze Turku, care prea s fie celmai vechi ora al Finlandei. Cltoria a fost bun,dei drumul i era ngreunat de numeroase insule iroci subacvatice. n Turku a vizitat catedralamedieval i a aflat c strmoii finlandezi ngropaser secole de-a rndul oamenii subpodeaua catedralei. La nceput s-a speriat, dupcare a aflat c obiceiul ngroprii n catedral numai era n vigoare de mult timp. Din catedralTamoul a vzut un alt obiectiv interesant- uncastel medieval, pe care imediat a dorit s-l vadde aproape. n castel era un pienjeni decoridoare ntunecoase, luminate doar de ctevalumnri. A mers de-a lungul coridoarelor ctresala tronului i apoi a admirat grosimea pereilori sigurana ce o degajau.n final s-a ntors la vasul su i i-a nceput

lungul drum spre cas, ctre Insula Reunion dinFrana. Era extrem de fericit, cu mintea plin deamintiri i inima tresltnd de fiorul aventurilortrite. Cine putea ti cnd urma s nceapurmtoarea lui aventur?

Tamoul travelled on his ship to the

calm North Sea, then through Danish straits,

Skagerrak and Kattegat, to the Baltic Sea and

then finally to the Aland islands. He landed at

the harbour of city called Marienhamn. After

he had chatted for a while with numerous fish-

ermen in the harbour, he realized that he was in

Finland, the northernmost country in the Euro-

pean Union. In Aland he went fishing, wanting

to get a big catch, and at last he got it! It was a

huge Atlantic salmon. After leaving Aland, Ta-

moul decided to head to Turku, which is proba- bly the oldest city in Finland. The trip went

fine, even though the route was not easy be-

cause of the numerous isles and underwater

stones. When he was in Turku he saw, among

other things, a medieval Turku cathedral. When

he visited there he heard that ancient Finns had

buried people there under the cathedrals floor

for centuries. First he got a little upset but

calmed down again when he heard that this

manner of burying people wasnt used anymorein Finland. From Turku cathedral Tamoul saw

another interesting building - the Turkus me-

dieval castle. He was very interested in the cas-

tle and therefore he decided to go to look at it

more closely. In the castle there were many

very dark corridors lit with just a few candles.

He continued along the corridors to a kings

hall and admired how thick the vaults were.

Then he went back to his ship and there he de-

cided to begin his journey back to his little

home island, Reunion, France. He was really

happy with his heart full of memories and great

adventures. Well see when his next adventure

begins!
