The CrucibleIn the book The Crucible, it also has the common theme revenge. Taking place in Salem, a group of girls caused witch trials to take place as they did not want to take blame for the actions they have committed.

Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, fires Abigail Williams when she discovers that Abby is sleeping with her husband. Abby gets infuriated by this and asks Tituba to cast witchcraft upon Elizabeth for Abby to be with John Proctor for her revenge.

To Kill a MockingbirdIn the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Bob Ewell seeks revenge on Atticus for exposing that he was an abusive and racist drunk. Atticus was able to show that Tom was innocent and that Bob had accused Tom in order to cover up the fact that he had abused his daughter. Bob wanted to get revenge on Atticus so he attacked Atticus’ kids.

GladiatorIn the Movie Gladiator, Maximus is overcome by the loss of his wife and son that he vows to end the life of the newly appointed emperor that ordered the assassination of him and his family.

“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the northern Armies, faithful and loyal servant to the true emperor Marcus Aurelius, husband to a murdered wife, father to a murdered son, and I will have my revenge, in this life or the next.”

Law Abiding CitizenIn the movie Law Abiding Citizen, a man’s wife and daughter are murdered. The two men that killed them are hardly punished so the husband, Clyde Shelton, seeks revenge by killing both of the murderers and everyone who was involved in letting them get away.

“Anybody who had anything to do with that case, he's gonna be comin' after you.”

ISIS victims returning home, wanting revengeOn November 7, 2015 ISIS victims that used to live in the area of Sinjar, are now returning home with much hatred towards a religious group called Yazidi. A normal day ended tragically back in August of 2014 when out of nowhere ISIS started to attack on the Yazidi by raising their flags and opening fire, killing thousands even capturing their women and children. Even with the atmosphere of the empty and crumbled area, the operation to retake Sinjar is fast approaching. CarrieDue to her mistreatment by her mother and fellow classmates, Carrie burst out into rage and mercilessly killed all her classmates as well as the rest of the town.

Hamlet and RevengePrince Hamlet is taken to see a ghost by Horatio and the watchmen, which speaks to him declaring that it is his father’s spirit and that he was killed by someone that is relatively close to Hamlet and his family. The ghost asks Hamlet to seek revenge on the man who did commit this murder as he disappears.
