Rock

• Rock is naturally occurring solid of one or more minerals or organic materials

• Sediments are all rocks that have been weathered and eroded into piece (scientific)

• Fragments (not scientific)• Magma—hot fluid materials which are liquid

Igneous

• Extrusive: has tiny small wholes or small crystals– Formed from cooling magma above earth’s surface

• Intrusive: large crystals are formed– Underneath the earth’s surface– Malfic– igneous rocks that are dark in color due to

their composition—what minerals make it up– Felsic—igneous rocks that are light in color due to

their composition

Sedimentary

• Weathering and erosions of all rocks. The creation strata (layers) formed through a process stratification

• Erosion—moving of sediments• Clastic: sediments that have been cemented

together• Chemical: dissolving salt—usually can see strata

(Layers)• Organic: sediments connects by fossils

Metamorphic

• Foliated: minerals are arranged in bands or plains

• Nonfoliated: minerals are not arranged in bands or plains

• 50c to 1000c• Contact: near magma• Regional: earthquakes or rocks moves
