Risk Management Virtual Conference-May 13th

Risk Management in the Age of COVID

In the age of COVID, risk managers must shift from behind the scenes to leaders on the forefront of the business. Every decision a business makes in the age of COVID has a parallel risk impact from back-to-work planning to building layouts, to required PPE at work. All of these changes are happening in a world where renewals are happening, supply chains are changing, and new lawsuits are starting.

The Modern Risk & Insurance Learning Series was created to help risk managers and their insurance company counter parts navigate this new world and learn from their peers. Our events will include multiple panels, Ted-style talks, and networking (all 100% virtual). You will be able to keep up-to-date on the latest trends and network with your peers.

We are bringing together an expert line up of risk managers, insurance carrier and insurance broker leadership, and InsurTech founders

Student Scholarships-Congratulations!For the first time in the Society’s 70-year history, the 2020 Annual Conference & Exhibition had to be cancelled due to COVID 19. In true risk management fashion, the society implemented its own risk management process, assessed the facts, analyzed the data and calculated the outcomes of a range of scenarios and ultimately, made the best decision in an effort to protect the health and safety of its membership. The Houston chapter had taken similar processes and had cancelled meetings/events before it became a mandate to stay at home.

We are proud to present scholarships to students who are pursuing risk management and see the value in everyday life which is why we sponsor students to attend the conference –to network, learn and explore. Although, we were not able to send anyone this year, we wanted to express our gratitude for submitting a package. The Board is of the mindset that we want to reward hard work, therefore, on behalf of the chapter we would like to award the two winners with a $250 cash award to show our appreciation for their dedication to risk management. Congratulations!

“Life is full of risks. Nevertheless, running away from your failure or standing up and face it, is completely up to you. It will never be too late to change, face your failure, and be better.”--Tien Son-My Le

Here are excerpts from the two winning essays.

"My main focus for this would be to change the perception of the industry for the generation that comes after me, so they can see this industry for what it is. Not as a job, but a career where what we do makes a difference in millions of people’s lives. This industry is there when the worst events happen to act as a safety blanket and that is something that is priceless and needs to be expressed better to the next generations." ---Ricardo Melchor
