Shot Type: Long Shot of the band and a backdrop of an American city – shows the location of the video. Analysis: -The establishing shot shows the band in a relaxed position in front of the TV. This makes the audience feel at ease with them and also appeals to them on a personal level, making them feel a part of the band. -It also fits into other shots of the band, which shows them behind the scenes of their performances and shots of them in their spare time, for example, when they’re playing pool in a pub. Time: 0:02 Lyric: intro Edit: It cuts to a montage of overhead shots of the city and fast motion shots of the roads which makes the audience feel that they are travelling with the band and then home videos of them backstage, which makes the audience feel like they’re there with the band and a fly on the wall. Shot Type: Extreme Close Up shot of the lead singer the audience feels a sense of closeness to him. Analysis: -This shot shows the lead singer singing for the most part of the first verse in ECU which makes the audience feel a sense of closeness to him and empathize with his emotions, being love. -The audience can also clearly see artists face which would be able to make him recognizable and also sells the band from his image. -The shot has a dark tint to it which is a convention of rock. Time: 0:42 Lyric: ‘I've been roaming around, Always looking down at all I see Painted faces, fill the places I cant reach, You know that I could use somebody Edit: The shot is continues for the first verse, making the audience still feel close to him.

Shot Type: Close Up shot of the band member - gives the sense of closeness. Also is a Hand Held shot – gives the sense of being there.

Analysis:-The shots of the band members shows the audience who makes up the band and still portrays closeness through the close ups.-Through showing the audience a close up of every member, the label is advertising them to audience through their image.-There is a dark tint to the shots, connoting the genre.-They have tiered looks on their faces, suggesting that what they do can be tiring, which is also suggested from the edits.-No relevance to the lyrics.

Lyric:‘you know that I could use somebody’

Edit:Cuts from a shot of the moon and stars (night) to the band member to a quick shot of the band playing live but with the crowd in full view and flashing lights, Showing that they play at night time and, from the band members expression, can be quite tiring.

Shot Type: A long shot of the band playing live, but from an angle – the audience has a full view of the band playing live and from the angle it is easier to see all the band members.

Analysis:-The shots of the band playing live are a very common convention of rock, as seen in Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit.-The band playing live has been edited to black and white which shows the audience the difference between real life, shown in colour, and their job, shown in black and white. -The shot also supports the theme of being present and knowing them on a personal level, and not from their job.-It also shows the typical instruments of a rock band, being: vocals, electric guitar, bass and drums.-No relevance to the lyrics.

Lyric:instumental

Edit:Cuts to a close up of the drummer as it is a drum solo.

Shot Type: Close Up shot of a band member’s back – makes audience feel as if they are right behind him.

Analysis:-A home video of the band members in what the audience assume to be a hotel which still carries on with the theme of knowing them personally and being part of them.-The montage of shots also give the audience an insight to what their lives are like whilst they are touring and shows them on a personal level which appeals to the audience.-The angle in which the camera is being shot from, behind a member and level with him, the audience feels like they are actually there behind him and therefore present.-The frame is lit by bright natural lighting, giving off the feeling of summer, which connotes happiness. Though it is in contrast to other shots in the video, which have a dark tint or is shot at night, which also supports the home video idea.-No relevance to the lyrics.

Time:3:01

Lyric:‘I’m ready now’

Edit:Montages of home videos, showing the band in their person lives mixed with shots of them behind stage and preforming, showing the audience their lives and staying with the idea of being present.

Shot Type: A Close Up shot of the artist - the audience feel as if they have ended their journey with him – sense of being part of the band. His position in the frame signifies the end.

Analysis:-The video finishes with the artist in a close up shot, but is placed thoroughly to the right of the frame, only showing half of his face and showing an out of focus backdrop of the city. This conveys the ending of the song and the video as he is moved right of the shot.-The artist also fades out of focus, also finalizing to the audience that the song has ended. -The shot is tinted dark which, as stated before, conveys night and is a convention of this genre.-No relevance to the lyrics.
