freePop Rocker: A flat camber-and-rocker combo where the flat camber section extends 5 cm wider than the insert packs. The extended flat section gives versatile response and landing power in and out of the park, while the rocker in the nose and tail delivers equal doses of rail tricks and powder slashes.

JibPop Rocker: A flat camber-and-rocker combo with a shorter flat camber section than our FreePop Rocker. In this version, the flat camber section is narrower than the insert packs by 2 cm, with rocker under foot and in the nose and tail. The result is super easy pressing and uber-loose fun, with a solid platform between the feet for balance on rails.

MtnPop Rocker: Rocker between the feet and positive camber in the nose and tail for the fun of rocker and the response of positive camber. Merged with our QuickRip Sidecut, this camber gives you fun at slow speeds, added float in powder, and full power for high speeds and big landings.

Powder-S Camber: We design this camber to do two things we love—float AND slash. Rocker from the front foot to the nose of the board keeps it floaty and surfy. Positive camber from the front foot to the tail keeps it responsive for exploding the lip of a white wave and entering the darkest of white rooms.

Rome innovations in material technology team up with our designer’s innovation in board geometries. To craft boards that make snowboarding more creative, more lively, and more fun, we combine new ideas in how to use materials and new ideas in how to shape the board. It’s a two-sided endeavor. There’s the engi-nerd side of things that finds new materials and places them in specific places to deliver

measured amounts of response in specific areas of the board. Then there’s the shaper side of things that comes from snowboarding’s surf roots. Riders use the art of changing the lines and thicknesses of boards to create a certain feel and handling. NoHang-Ups is Rome’s modern innovation in the 3D base contouring realm that started back in the 60s with the Snurfer and continued through the Morrow Spoon nose in the 90s. Where we evolve from past ideas is through the integration of our proprietary NoHang-Ups Diamond and our areas of 3D Continuous Curvilinear Rocker (CCR)—where and how the base rockers is unique to Rome. With the Diamond underfoot and the 3D Continuous Curvilinear Rocker in the nose and tail, you get the best of both worlds: precision, control and ollie power mixed with a surfy, buttery feel.

Our new 4-Ply Core Matrix is the backbone of the Boneless’s good-timey vibe. Traditional snowboard cores are vertically laminated strips—in this core we tap into our skate roots and laminate the wood horizontally to up the fun level. 4 layers of Poplar create the loosest, most playful feel in our board line. As close as you can get on snow to the feeling of turning a pair of Indys or ollieing a 7-ply deck.

NEW

Outside of the Diamond, the board is shaped into three-dimensional Continuous Curvilinear Rocker—absolutely no flat base surfaces here. The 3D CCR starts at the edges near your bindings and increases to the full width of the board a little before the contact points. With the 3D CCR, you have the looseness, fun and floatation of rockered boards.

NoHang-Ups Rocker: A flat-camber Diamond that ends 20 mm before the contact points for maximum freestyle fun that still pops ollies and stomps landings (even in the back seat).

NoHang-Ups pop: A positive-camber Diamond that ends 10 mm before the contact points for a balance of powerful pop and surfy finesse.

Under foot we place a symmetrical Diamond shape where the 3D CCR DOESN’T exist. The Diamond is full board width between your feet, and it comes to a rounded point in the centerline of the board just short of the board’s contact points in the nose and tail. This Diamond is what gives the board precision and control—with a spine of non-rockered camber down the centerline of the board, you have the ollie power and anti-revert directional control of flat camber and positive camber snowboards.

Reverse Radial v: A reverse-V pattern of HotRods with a slight radius that channel power into ollies and nollies while only adding minor torsional response. Available only in carbon.

Double Barrel: Two parallel HotRods designed to give rocker boards more pop all around—for ollies, nollies and power off the edges. Available only in carbon.

Single Barrel: One HotRod down the centerline of the board is the perfect solution for giving more ollie/nollie pop without adding any unwanted torsional stiffness. Available in carbon, basalt (new) and glass.

Single + Double Barrel: A new powder-specific configuration with one HotRod up front and two in the back for more tail snap. Slash in deep snow and land big drops. Available only in carbon.

New configurations and new materials for 2014 mean more precisely targeted pop from Rome’s HotRod Technology. First we build thin, hollow tubes of carbon, basalt and glass. Then we mill channels in our cores and insert the rods. Different patterns, all starting under your bindings and ending at the contact points, create different levels of ollie, nollie and torsional response. Basalt is new for 2014 for a lot of the power of carbon, with an environmentally-friendly footprint.

Thinly laminated plates of kevlar, basalt and glass start under your binding and extend to the contact points in your nose and tail—one variety targets the centerline of your board and one variety targets your edges at the end of the sidecut. Both varieties take the energy from your bindings and channel it into the places you want it.

Airpop Core matrix: Five regions of superlight low-density wood integrated with poplar throughout the rest of the core for the most responsive feel we make. Light and poppy.

Superpop Core matrix: The backbone of our high-end, high responsive boards. Three zones of low-density wood with extended segments of poplar deliver a light, smooth transition of flex and a snappy reply of pop. Snowboarding is more fun when it pops.

4-plyCore matrix: Horizontally laminated poplar. That’s right, horizontally laminated. Laid up like a skateboard to optimize the skate feel of the Boneless. A limited release last year, this is the most buttery, laid-back core we’ve ever designed.

pop Core matrix: The bread-and-butter of our street-to-steeps board models. Smooth and fun for pressing out box tricks. Snappy and poppy for bombing a backcountry couloirs. Two zones of lightweight wood team up with a body of responsive poplar.

impact Core matrix: 40% wood fiber material in a composite that extends the durability of the core and flexes oh so smoothly for the Artifact and Artifact Rocker. Also is more environmentally conscious.

The core has a major impact on the flex, weight and strength of your board. So we’ve created six varieties that optimize these qualities. Light and poppy or smooth and strong, the personality of the board is driven by how we configure the wood to create the right feel.

BUTTEROUT TRANSiTiON ZONES SkATECORE pROfiliNg

Two sidecuts with the same radius (arc) are off set with one between the feet and one in the nose and tail. Where they meet near your bindings are Mid-Board Contact Points where the center sidecut transitions down to the nose/tail sidecut. The result is a board that can be ridden slow and loose between the Mid-Board Contact Points at your feet, and a board that can be ridden powerfully along the full running length. The Mid-Board Contact points become areas of added edge grip when the full running length is engaged. One board—rides short and rides long.

The modern incarnation of our Profiled Transition Zones from the early Rome years. To create a smoother feel when landing, spinning or buttering, we lengthen and mellow the transition of the contact points where your sidecut transitions into your nose and tail. A longer transition zone with a bigger radius means more freestyle fun.

We mill this technology into some of our cores to create a feel that is similar to the turning and ollie-feel of a skateboard. Thinner between the feet and thick sections that extend towards the nose and tail creates a twisty, maneuverable feel that still can pop and ollie and give you the necessary landing gear.

Shaping has always been a way our board designer/co-owner has given each of our boards a different feel. The influence of the surfboard design approach on snowboards is alive and well. By tweaking the different geometries of a board, our designer has created different shaping innovations to dial up the precision or to loosen the way a board handles.

TSuperlightBiax laminate: Crazy light. In the Mod and Mod Rocker, that’s the design objective with this laminate. A light biax pattern keeps the torsional flex smooth and fun, to match up with the power boost delivered by the four carbon HotRods.

StraightTriax 30 laminate: The perfect balance of flex and pop out of a laminate. 30-degree fibers are mellow enough to adjust to changes in terrain and to land with confidence. 30-degree fibers are poppy enough to spin hard off the lip of a jump and slash a wall of pow. A key weapon in park-to-peak performance.

StraightTriax45 laminate: Laid up in an orientation specifically for the rider who is looking for precise pop and ripping turns. The 45-degree off-axis fibers provide the grip and kick that seekers of all-mountain destruction rely on.

StraightBiax Carbon laminate: The 90-degree fibers of biax give that foundation of freestyle fun. The addition of carbon decreases weight and adds a height to your ollies. Flex With Pop? Damn right.

StraightBiax Basalt laminate: Basalt is the environmentally-friendly little bro of carbon. Teamed up with the buttery, park-oriented feel of the biaxial pattern, the basalt fibers add pop and strength.

StraightBiax laminate: The laminate that optimizes smooth-flexing good times. For those riders who hang mainly in the park or who are just getting hooked on standing sideways, this laminate tunes the board for creativity and fun.

SinterCarbon Base: Carbon additives reduce friction to make the base fast as hell. A highly porous sintered structure absorbs wax for a baseline of gap-clearing speed.

SinterSpeed Base: A high-end sintered compound makes for super fast boards in the high-end part of our line. Absorbs large amounts of wax for multiple days of straight-lining powder and effortlessly bombing into your local jump line.

SinterTrue Base: Strong and wax absorbent, this is our first level of speed through the power of a sintered base. All the speed you need for an average day riding park or racing for all the untracked lines.

impact Base: Our extra high-density extruded compound is ideal for the rider who puts a beating on his board and doesn’t get around to waxing it very often. The high-density design holds up to damage from rails, boxes and stumps.

xTRD Base: Fast enough for most riders, this is our standard of simplicity that is made to stand up to the everyday beating. Strong and easy to fix.

Bambooster Technology: Milled into the core, rods of bamboo add height to your ollies and nollies. Bamboo is nature’s way of loading up energy and giving your board large amounts of pop.

Stringer Technology: Strips of laminated fibers add to the response of our boards. The Carbon V pattern in the Postermania adds response to your edges and your ollies, while the Glass Reverse-V pattern in the Shiv, Factory Rocker and Garage Rocker boosts ollies without adding unwanted torsional stiffness.

Carbon powerbars: Our Carbon V Powerbars are another way we up the responsiveness off your rails and tails when it comes to slashing and ripping mountains on the Whiteroom, Powder Room and Anthem boards.

True Twin: Take the graphic off these boards and you can’t tell the nose from the tail. From the middle of the board in both directions is exactly the same—shape, core profile, stances centered on sidecut…everything.

Almost Twin: These boards are pretty much twins. Between the contact points (where the board touches the snow), all the dimensions are exactly twin—the shape, the centered stances and the core profile. The only non-twin aspect is outside the contact points: the nose is slightly longer than the tail. For all snow except maybe powder, they are twins. In pow, they float a little better in your natural stance.

Directional: Meant for optimizing your fast, powerful down-mountain riding, directional boards have more board in front of your front foot than in back of your rear foot. Stances are also set-back on the sidecut.

Swallowtail: Ignore riding switch and send roosters of powder on deep days. Swallowtails drop into the deep for darker face shots and a surfier feel.

Using fibers of carbon, basalt and glass, we create patterns of differing angles of the fibers to tune board performance. By manipulating the weight of the fibers, the amounts of carbon and the direction of the off-axis fibers, we use these laminates to help define that uniquely Rome Flex With Pop. That’s what we press into our designs through base selection—a

high glide factor and defense against hard objects on the hill. Depending on how fast you want to ride and how abusive you are to a board, the right base can make all the difference.

Regardless of the color of your credit card, you gotta have pop in your ride. If you can’t step up to HotRods, we still have technology to keep your ollies high.

impact plates: Thin reinforcements under your bindings increase strength against core compressions caused by bindings. Step to Kevlar for the highest level of strength. Also available in basalt and glass.

impact Edges: Wider and taller, Impact Edges give you beefier protection against impact damage.

From the jib line in your local park to a rocky-ass ridgeline like the Cirque at Snowbird, terrain can be harsh on snowboards. So we design two technologies to prevent core damage and edge breakage.

For park riders and riders with a freestyle approach to natural terrain, Twins and Almost Twins make the most sense as they go both directions with the same feel. For riders who stay in their natural stance and like to ride with maximized power, Directional and Swallowtail boards will be the better fit.

Canting is great for increasing power over your nose and tail, and for increasing knee comfort on wider stances. Now as one complete piece, the NEW Yes, I Cant footbed is easy to customize with a quick adjust channel. Move the entire footbed 7mm forward for a larger boot size or 7mm back for smaller sizing. Swapping canting options is faster and easier than ever before.

UnderWrap has always delivered Flex With Pop—now it’s better with a set-up time that is all that much faster. As the backbone of our hybrid bindings, the UnderWrap system is the single most important Design House technology for combining unadulterated heel-to-toe power transfer with side-to-side snowboard tweakage. By lifting up on the toeside section of the binding while digging in heelside and vice versa, the power from your turn is leveraged into both edges. With the added Channel Adjust system, you can now move the heel hoop without removing any nuts or bolts. With 20mm of track, there is plenty of room to customize the heel hoop to any boot.

Improving a strap that is already the most comfortable and durable in the market was a challenge. For the Boss models, the Design House looked for new materials, a different construction pattern, and additional EVA to mold the inside. The result is form-fitting support that feels great on the ankle.

The combo of a smaller binding footprint and more power from edge to edge is ideal for any binding-board combination V-Rod delivers.

There is no reason why a highback should not be customizable to match any style of riding. The Mob, Mob Boss, and Runway bindings have been designed to give the rider a choice between 3 and 6 degrees of highback canting. This allows the highback to be in line with your lower leg. By increasing or decreasing the angle of the highback in relation to the width of a stance, our unibody bindings have an additional level of customizable power and comfort. It’s easy:

Found on the Targa only and designed for big landings and shock absorption. This unique two-part highback design consists of two elements connected by a bushing system similar to a kingpin of a skate truck. The top section flexes up to 3 degrees before locking out and the middle bushing acts as a dampening system, absorbing shock while still providing flex with pop.

Founded on the idea that snowboarders should beat skiers to lines on pow days, the Rome AutoStrap system makes strapping in as fast as possible. A built-in piece elastic band keeps the ankle strap in tension, creating a system that holds your ankle strap away from the footbed when you’re not strapped in. Open your buckle and your strap automatically swings out of the way.

How the baseplate is designed: a v-shaped “rockered” baseplate.

1. A 110mm “rod” of contact with your board from edge to edge, extending from the outside of your heel to your big toe.

2. The medial rear corner and lateral front corner of the baseplate are raised (v-shaped) off the surface of the board, and are replaced with compressible EVA and rubber.

Integrating memory foam into our fit-enhancing Skate Cuff technology was the next step for our Design House to evolve the conforming properties of our liners into the NEW Foot Impression Technology. As the season progresses the Skate Cuff Memory holds shape and conforms to the contours of the foot, making a lasting impression in a heel cup that remembers to conform. On our Elite F.I.T. liner, we put an EVA outsole on the liner to make it fit better with the shell. With a stable liner sitting inside the boot, your foot stays in place, eliminating the need to crank laces and ankle straps. A new technology for enhanced fit where we place a small pattern of silicon grip gel on the liner zone that touches the back of your heel. Better heel hold means better control.

This creates a flexible, but smooth level of support for leaning into toesides. Liner tongues get thin in the ankle region and can kink-out and lose support. Inner cuff laces can also cut into liner tongues and make them kink and lose support. The NKS Shield kills the kink and delivers smooth, clean Flex With Pop.

In creating the Elite, Pro, and Rad footbeds, the Rome Design House went back to what matters most under foot: high end support and form-fitting comfort. By varying densities in foam and reshaping the heel and arch support zones, the conforming properties of our new F.I.T. footbeds absorb big landings and provide support where it’s needed.

The Rome Design House has been innovating the best-fitting gloves for a decade. We carefully select materials and combine them in unique ways to deliver great fit, weather protection, dexterity and style. During the construction process, we pre-form the gloves (like lasting a boot) so there

Sometimes non-organic animal products are better. The two things that make a great glove are mobility and water resistance. Leather is a material that flexes better than anything on the market while holding its durability through long seasons of riding. It’s great on the hand and moves well in cold and warm conditions. To improve this already fantastic material, the Design House has impregnated the structure with a waterproofing treatment. By altering the level of waterproofing, a beneficial outcome we like to call TechLeather technology is created. It’s the SDS version of advanced glove material and when teamed up with Hipora inserts, there’s no better solution for flexible waterproof protection.

This is the backbone of our glove design and maximizes the most ample amounts of desired warmth without over using fabric and creating a bulky glove. By using Primaloft, Thinsulate, fiberfill and micro fleeces, the inner sections of our gloves are insulated by varying degrees. The palm of the hand is made of durable skin in comparison to the softer and more exposed back of the hand. We vary the amounts of filling from the top and bottoms to create a custom warmth.

Flexible Insulation Technology is rated like wet-suits to designate the insulating weights; back-of-hand number first and the palm side second.

One aspect of spring definitely sucks—the fact that snowboard season is in its death throes.

Other parts of spring definitely do not suck. Like grilling with friends in the parking lot of your local hill on a warm afternoon—aka The Parking Lot Hang.

The communal nature of resort-town life is one of the best things about living in the hills. And when 20 or more grills and coolers break out all over your mountain’s parking lot, it turns into one big communal party. It’s the place to celebrate the life of resort-town shredding—especially when it comes after an epic year of multiple pow days. When the forecast is for temps above 60 degrees F, mix one part sunny laps, one part soft jumps, two parts refreshments and five parts friends, and you have one helluva shred cocktail.

What can be better? Take soft, spring laps. Stop by and slap high fives with friends at different parking lot spots. Have an ice-cold beer. Eat an Italian sausage. Repeat. Later, strip down to board shorts, get rid of the snowboard boots and kick back for hours.

It doesn’t take a lot to host a Parking Lot Hang with your crew.
