MEETING HELD AT CAFÉ ELIXIR 25th NOVEMBER 2013

President Norm sent his apologies as he is still on the Country Trip with the Exchange

Students. By all accounts looking at the Facebook entries they have having a great time and

Anson will have to give a full account when he gets back.

Past President Owen Douglas our current Youth Director Chaired the meeting and welcomed

members and their partners that could attend plus a guest of Debbies Deidre who was in

Bangkok as a guest at the convention and also our guest speaker for this evening Brian Hol-

way. Owen also thanked the Management and Staff of Café Elixir for allowing us to hold a

meeting at their premises and providing the evenings meal. Owen mentioned that before Café

Elixir had started their business he was a lot slimmer and recommended everyone to book for

the Big Breakfast.

Owen directed us that When we had finished our meal and the Guest Speaker had given his

talk we could move across the Foyer of the Wanneroo Cultural Centre into the Theatrette to

see what the facility had to offer. No food or drink to be taken through into the other area apart

from water.

There were no Directors reports forthcoming so we were to just enjoy the fellowship and enjoy

the variety of the meals provided. There were many varieties of tasty treats which included

chicken skewers, lamb skewers, meat ball rissoles, small pizzas, curry puffs, curry lamb tarts

with many different sauces. Very nice indeed.

Owen thanked Beth, Trevor and staff again for a lovely meal that was enjoyed by all members.

Sargeants Session: Phil Cousins; Colin was fined for breaking something and also for break-

ing into the restaurant, Bill for losing his bowls game and also for falling off his car……, Clive

for getting a new car and also for buying some old 33 1/3 records at Debbies garage sale, Neil

for not going fishing on Friday and also for having a tag still on his trousers, Debbie for not

having Tea Bags at her garage sale, also Debbie pulled out a long hair and looked to Phil, Phil

assured her that it could not possibly be from him with his short hair, Paul for going down to

his farm, catching 2 Marron and then deciding that it was getting late so he puts them back

and then drives home, Tom (Choice of being a Pom or an Aussie ) Phil asked him to decide

but either way he paid his fine. Neil had a cross fine that backfired as he dobbed in Clive for

damaging his rear vision mirror last week but Clives wife didn’t know anything about it. She

does now. Phil was not going to embaress Clive as Margaret was present. Neil dobbed him in.

Everyone had a good laugh with the look on Clives face. Phil asked if anyone else wanted to

put their foot in it! No Takers……… Phil said to Clive that he was true to his word.

Peter Miskelly reminded everyone about the Golf on Sunday and to bring kids, grandkids etc

along for a good day. 8.00am breakfast for 9.00am start and then on to Rotary Park for lunch.

Secretary Graeme introduced our Guest Speaker: Brian Holloway who is the local barber with

his business B-Mi-Barber here in the Wanneroo Shopping Centre. Brian lives in Iluka and is

married with 4 children.

Page 4: Rotary Bulletin 21 2013

Unfortunately the microphone did not pick up Brian’s talk very well but the gist of his talk was

as follows.

Brian explained that he is running the barbers shop with a business partner Michelle in the

Wanneroo Shopping Centre B-Mi-Barber. Brian discussed the full process of how he started

the business with choosing a business partner, trading name, speaking with an accountant,

setting up the barbers shop and aquiring new chairs for the fitout. A very thorough descrip-

tion of how he is running his business with his clientelle, staffing levels and how he is going

from strength to strength.

We wish Brian and his team all the success in the future and if anyone needs to know where

to their hair cut remember B Mi Barber Shop 17b in the Wanneroo Central Shopping

Centre.

Neil Cook presented Brian with our customary glass and Pride of Workmanship Award.

A couple of Photos of the Meeting at Café Elixir

The meeting then moved across to the Theatrette in the Wanneroo Cultural Centre that also

has the Library and Museum.

Ray Perkins showed some youtube clips of the Duck Races that have been held by other

clubs to give members an idea of how the Dolphin Race we are planning could be run. This

would be run to raise funds for Telethon and for local projects that both of the Wanneroo and

Hillarys clubs are working on and planning.

This would be held in October 2014 and run annually as an ongoing event.
