Thank You . . . Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard throughout all of Lent and especially in these last weeks so that we might have a wonderful and prayerful cele-bration of the mysteries we have commemorated this Lent, holy Week, and Easter. We are grateful to those who decorate the church, all those who assist as a litur-gical minister in any manner, and especially to the musi-cians whose hard work gives glory to God and inspira-tion to many. May you all know the joy of the risen Christ! Thanks to Paul Muller who crafted small stands for the clergy to have by their chairs in the sanctuary. How nice not to have to put books and things on the floor. The family of Tom Cronin would like to thank Fr. Bill Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz for their prayers and Mass for Tom. We also wish to thank all the ladies who gave their time to provide the delicious funeral luncheon for our family and friends.

Ask Us to Light a Vigil Candle

Wouldn’t we all love to be able to de-vote an entire week to be in prayer with our blessed Lord? With busy lives this is impossible. However, the flame of a burning holy candle may symbol-ize our intention to be constantly in

prayer. The burning wick of the candle becomes our very prayer, symbolizing our intent and desire to be at prayer, even at times when this is not possible.

You may ask our parish to remotely light a vigil candle for you. The offering is $5 per candle, which will be lit by our parish volunteers and will burn for your prayer intention for a week. You may make as many offerings as you wish, but the offering for each candle is $5, pay-able through PayPal. Simply go to www.shcnewton.com (―Special Intentions‖ page under the Pastoral Care‖ tab.)

Do You Know Someone Interested in Joining the CATHOLIC Church?

Parishioners are encouraged to invite their non-Catholic friends, relatives, spouses or co-workers to our inquiry sessions this spring. These sessions are held for adults who wish to find out more about becoming Catholic. Inquiry sessions will be held in McCann Center: Sundays, May 1st, 15th & 22nd at 7 p.m.

For more information, call Tammy Norcross, pastoral minister, 792-2050, ext. 224;

Human Growth and Development Class offered

for families of K-6 The Diocese of Davenport feels that it is imperative that our youth be taught Hu-man Growth and Development based on Catholic Church teachings. Due to the im-portance and sensitivity of the subject mat-ter, we will be offering family classes. Par-ents are the most important teachers of their children, and we want to honor that relation-ship by involving the parents in these classes. We will be offering a Human Growth and Development class for children and their parents that will cover the following topics: respect and love of others, recognizing the gift of life, chastity, modesty, & self-image. Families with children in grades K-3 will meet in one classroom and those with chil-dren in grades 4-6 will meet in another. We will be offering this class two different times to accommodate family schedules: Sunday, May 1st after Mass from 10:30-Noon and Wednesday, May 4th from 6 – 7:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Beth Lawson at Sacred Heart 641-792-2050 or by email [email protected].

Catholics Returning Home

Do you know someone who has left the Church? Most of us do not have to look very far to find non-practicing Catholics in our circle of family and friends. Many of us are concerned about these loved ones, but we don’t know how to help them. Obvi-

ously, most of them are searching, but how can we help them find their way home? As baptized, practicing Catholics, we have a precious gift of faith and love from the Lord that needs to be shared with our non-practicing brothers and sisters. First we need to pray for them. Next, we need to extend a personal invi-tation to them to come home to the Catholic Church. Most non-practicing Catholics are waiting for an invitation to return. Many think they are excommunicated and are not welcome for a variety of reasons. Many non-practicing Catholics carry with them a tremen-dous amount of guilt and misinformation about the Church and are afraid of approaching the Church for fear of being rejected. You can make a tremendous difference in someone’s life by simply reaching out to them and tell-ing them that we miss them and would like them to come back home to our Church family. ―Catholics Returning Home‖ is a program to help non-practicing Catholics return to the Church. We will begin a new session on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7:00pm in the McCann Center. Please pass this information to anyone who might be interested. For more information, contact Deacon Dan Goetz at 641-521-9929, [email protected] or call. 641-792-2050.

Easter Sunday Alleluia!

In addition, tell people about the work that Catholic Relief Services is doing on our behalf throughout the world, and invite them to become a part of this work by con-tributing to Operation Rice Bowl. Thank you for your participation this Lenten season!

Thank You It is hard to believe that another year has went by, and K-6 Faith Formation has celebrated the end of their classes. I want to sincerely thank those catechists who volunteered their time, talent, and treasure in order to share their faith with our children of the parish. Your dedication to the chil-dren of the parish is inspiring and your gifts will be passed on to those of the lives you have touched. I also want to give a big thank you to the parents and caretakers of the children of the parish for supporting the program by having their children attend classes. Thank you for getting your children to classes, and for intrusting us to partner with you in their faith formation. May each of you have a safe, fun, and relaxing summer vacation, and remem-ber to please keep the date of the week of July 18th – July 22nd for Vacation Bible School. Sacred Heart Church Nursery

Open every Sunday morning during the 9:00 am Mass. The Nursery is open to children ages 1-4. Two trained volunteers will be present at that time!

Pray for Vocations Project Households in the parish are invited to sign up to participate in our Rosary for Vocations project. The sign-up sheet is on the table by the sacristy in the gathering space. On your scheduled weekend, you take the Vocations Prayer box to your home for the week and display the St. John Vianney (patron saint of priests) icon and the pottery chalice (that belongs to Fr. Reynolds). You may add candles, fresh flowers, your rosary or other sacred objects to personalize the prayer space. Pray for vocations throughout the week using your own words or the rosary meditations in-cluded in the prayer box. Record the dates and any comments you’d like in the guest book. Return the box and its contents to the parish the following week-end to be given to the next scheduled family. For more information call the parish staff.

Easter Sunday

(He Rose) April 24, 2011

Bible Verse:

Gospel: John 4:5-42 (He Lives)

Question of the Week:

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the

morning, while it was still dark, and saw the _____________________ removed from the tomb. So she ran

and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, ―They have taken the

__________________________ from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.‖ So Peter and the

other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter

and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the ________________________ cloths there, but did

not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and

the cloth that had covered his __________________________, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a

separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw

and believed. For they did not yet understand the ______________________________ that he had to rise

from the ______________________________.

Adults: What are my thoughts about Jesus’ Resurrection? What are my hopes and expectations about the resurrection on the last day?

Children: What will heaven be like? Who are all the people I want to be with in heaven? NAME____________________________________________________________________________
