• Attendance. Some facts:
• Below 80% = Average of 2 grades below target.
• 80.1% - 90% = Average of 1.6 grades below target.

Revision is essential in supporting students to succeed in their examinations. Therefore, Year 11
students will be issued with a Lord Grey Revision Card so that we can monitor how many revision
sessions have been attended and how many online revision activities have been carried out. We would expect to see students attending a significantly higher number of sessions in the lead up to the Internal
Examinations in December, and the final GCSE Examinations in the summer.
In order to be eligible to go to the school Prom, students must carry out a minimum of 20 revision
sessions per term These sessions will be signed off by the session teacher. In addition to this students
must have 96% attendance.
When required, revision sessions may take place before school, at lunchtime and after school. In some circumstances revision sessions may take place during the holidays and on a Saturday by invitation only.
Students must not assume that revision sessions will happen as part of the course, they are add on and a
privilege.
It is essential that the completed Revision Card is presented to the relevant Head of House to be authorised in order to purchase a ticket to the school Prom.
We want everyone to be able to attend the Prom, so to ensure you succeed, make sure you attend and
revise.

What Parents Can Do To Help… • A dedicated quiet space – with good light and with no
distractions • Discuss your child’s revision timetable • Encourage working in short bursts, changing subject
and revision techniques regularly to stay fresh • Ensure that your son or daughter takes regular breaks • Monitor Internet usage • Know and discuss the date, time and location for
each exam and incorporate this into the revision plan and preparation

GCSE English language and GCSE English Literature
Points to Note:
• Literature and Language are now equally weighted, as from this year either can be listed on applications
• There are no tiers of entry – EVERYONE sits the same exam papers
• At Lord Grey we have differentiated texts for Literature to assist with access and to support higher grades
• There is no coursework element
• The Spoken Language component does not count in the final mark BUT does have its own line on the exam certificate
• A grade 9 will be determined after all exams are marked
• The top slice will be allocated this grade
English Literature Component One
Section A – Shakespeare – 20% Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet Section B – Poetry – 20% 1789 to the present day Students must study the entire WJEC Anthology

You will have six sections of questions to respond to. • The examiner will judge

Careers Advice and Guidance
• Research shows that young people with clear career
goals outperform those without clear goals, regardless
of any other factors.
• Research shows young people with more developed
skills in exploring career choices were more positive
and confident about the decisions that they made post
16 and more likely to make a successful transition
• Research shows that careers talks and education can
be linked to higher earnings in adulthood. Accessing 6
careers related sessions was shown in a recent study
to equate to an additional £2,000 per year in earnings.

• It is not about telling you what to do!
• It is about helping and supporting you to plan for your future. Planning to help you get from where you are now, to where you want to be in the future.
• It is also about helping you to identify opportunities and to be aspirational about your future.
• Helping you to develop the skills to search and source information and to interpret what it means to you.
• Career planning is a life process.
• You need to develop these skills for the future.
What is careers advice?
A LIFE PROCESS? • Very few people remain in the same job throughout their
lives. It is likely that you won’t stay in the same job
forever.
• It is important to find a rewarding occupation, but it is not
likely to be a final decision.
• The job you may end up doing in 10, 20 or 30 years may
not even exist now!
• That is why developing an understanding of the world of
work, job search skills and action planning is so
important.

• Individual appointments – pop into T17 to book an appointment, email me or ask your tutor to do so
• Drop-in sessions – No appointment needed, just come along to T17 most lunchtimes.
• Attend an talk – throughout the year we have a number of talks and guests speakers planned

• Ask you tutor to book a tutorial session – I can come and talk to you about a range of subjects.
• Attend all the Year 11 Tutorial Sessions this year.

HOW CAN PARENTS/CARERS
HELP?
• Encourage your son/daughter to access the service
• If they have an individual appointment they will have a
record of their interview. There will be vital information on
here about open events, website addresses etc. It might
help to look at the action plan together.
• Take regular opportunities to talk to them about their
choices, your experience of work and the world of work
around them. For example you might consider attending the
MK Jobs Show at CMK this weekend.
