As the chief editor, the thing that disappointed me most is a

mistake in this publication of our own. Any mistake irrespective of

big or trivial as pointed out by our readers means rooms for our

improvement. Some years ago when Thomas Sung commented

on typographical errors in Sameway he challenged us to exercise

zero tolerance. In our course to attain such a standard, I thank for

his continuous support to us by contributing his weekly column.

In a special report on the upcoming Victorian Election published

in Sameway Issue 215, we aimed to provide our readers with a full

coverage and analysis on the two political parties in rivalry. We

also included interviews with the governing and opposition

leaders as well as with the Chinese election candidates in

promoting their political plans and ideas to the Chinese

community. We thank Primer Brumby for his written interview and

Opposition Leader Baillieu for an exclusive face-to-face interview

with us. And all of the six Chinese candidates, except Kelly Liu

with whom we had difficulty in contacting, were happy to

campaign on their election through this publication.

What a big pity or regret that as when we were doing the

typesetting, and in the absence of meticulous double checking,

the editing designer inadvertently put another candidate’s details

into the profile of Gladys Liu, a candidate who has long

participated in community building works. I regard this as a

significant mistake as opposed to just a few typos.

Last Thursday morning when we discovered the printing error I

immediately phoned up Gladys Liu to report on this unacceptable

mistake of ourselves; I really appreciated Gladys Liu’s forgiving

and accommodating attitude for not making any blame on us. I

have known her for some years as someone with a passion to

serve the Chinese community; for now I deeply realise her as an

obliging politician. Actually a few months ago Mr. Wong had sent

us an article in commendation of Gladys Liu. I did not get that into

publication on the ground that it was a piece of personal

assessment; and with that Gladys Liu respected our editing

sovereignty too. Last week Mr. Wong sent in another article

reminding the Chinese community should exercise care and

judgement in supporting Chinese candidates as some of those

nominated on a political agenda are just lacking the qualities.

Chap Chow also wrote in to criticise on this political trick. We have

published both of their articles in this issue.
