Basic instructions

How to start the navigation on Samsung Wave [GT-S8500]?

On Samsung Wave [GT-S8500] the Navigation application is preinstalled by factory.

In order to start the navigation please follow the next steps:

1. Insert a memory card in the phone.

2. Open the Main menu of the phone and then press on the Navigation icon.

How to exit the navigation on Samsung Wave [GT-S8500]?

To close the Navigation application, press the End Call key on your phone. Select

Yes in the dialog box that appears on the screen.

How to do a screen capture on Samsung Wave [GT-S8500]?

In order to do a screen capture press simultaneously the Menu key on the front and

the Lock key on the right side of the phone. The screenshots will be saved on the

phone memory in the Images folder .

The Options Icons

In the Options bar, the following icons are available:

Search by Select to find locations for your navigation

and routes

Show

shortcuts Select to access navigation options and map

browsing options.

More

Select to plan or view routes while in

navigation mode, to view or download

additional content for your device, to send

or save information, to customize the settings

of your application.

Route

Select to define and use routes. This option

is available during navigation or route

simulation and also when you are stationary.

Navigation

Select to return to the navigation or

simulation screen. This option is available

during map browsing and also when the

cursor (pin) is activated. This option replaces

the Route icon when the Route option is not

available.

Show full

screen Select the full screen icon to show the

Options bar.

Hide full

screen Select the full screen icon to hide the

Options bar.

How to find the device and software information?

The software version and the device ID/IMEI number are displayed by selecting More

– Settings – About.

The Samsung LBS Options menu for Samsung Wave [GT-8500]

Search by

Use Search by to find a certain location. Keyword can be used to find addresses, city names, house numbers or postcodes,

history records and personal favourites stored on your device. Use keywords and

scroll among the list of results. Choose the entry that matches best your search.

Address can be used to search for a location by filling-in the Country/Region, and

the City/Postcode, mandatory fields. The Street and Number fields are optional.

Favourites can be used to search a favourite place that was previously saved.

History can be used to search for a location by selecting among the previous search

results.

Points of interest can be used to navigate to the near points of interest.

Show shortcuts

Select Show shortcuts to access the application shortcuts.

Select Navigate home to drive or walk to the previous selected location of your home.

Select Navigate to office to drive or walk to the previous selected location of your

office.

Select Update cameras to receive the latest safety camera information. An Internet

connection is required.

Select 2D perspective / 3D perspective to view the map in the classical 2D

perspective or a panoramic 3D map.

Select Mute / Unmute to turn off or on the voice guidance.

Select Night colours or Day colours to use bright colours or dim colours.

Select Rotate map on to keep your GPS arrow always oriented upwards, regardless of

your actual travelling direction. Select Rotate map off and you map will not

automatically rotate during navigation.

Select Show favourites / Hide favourites to display or hide favourites and landmarks

on the map.

Select Arrow view on / Arrow view off to display or not in full screen mode the change

of direction ahead during navigation or simulation.

Select Travel mode to choose your default method of navigation. In order to choose

each time the desired travelling mode when starting navigation, select Always ask.

Select Set point of interest to display or hide all or certain points-of-interest categories

on the map.

Select Define road block to avoid parts of the current route. This option is available

only during navigation.

1. Download contents

Select to buy additional services and content, to synchronise license keys, to activate

using voucher codes, to visualise the existing licenses and content on the phone.

2. Send

Select to send a map snapshot, the cursor position, the GPS position or the current

route’s waypoints to other compatible devices.

3. Save

Select to save a snapshot of the map, the cursor position, the GPS position as a

favourite or current route’s waypoints.

Select to customize the settings of the application.

4.1. Navigation

To set your travelling preferences, select More – Settings – Navigation

4.1.1. Travel mode: to choose your default method of navigation. You can choose

from the following options: Fastest (Car), Shortest (Car), Fastest (Lorry), Shortest

(Lorry) and Pedestrian.

To choose yourself the travelling method each time you start a navigation select

Always ask.

4.1.2. Route overview: to see a route preview before starting the navigation. You can

choose from the following options: Always on, Always ask and Never.

4.1.3. Download online map: to use or download additional information (online data).

An Internet connection is required and you will be charged network fees. The amount

of data you have downloaded is displayed in the upper-right area of the screen. When

this option is not selected no additional content is downloaded.

4.1.4 Lane information: to view additional information when approaching street

junctions.

4.1.5. Avoid motorways, Avoid toll roads, Avoid ferries: to exclude motorways, tax

roads, ferryboats or water crossings from your routes.

4.1.6. Automatic zoom: to automatically zoom in when your driving speed decreases,

and to automatically zoom out when your driving speed increases.

4.1.7. Turn compass on/off: to activate/deactivate the functionality of the built-in

magnetic compass.

4.2. Display and light

To set the look and behaviour of the map, select More – Settings – Display and

light.

4.2.1. Map display

Night colurs: to use always bright colours choose Always day. To use always dim

colours choose Always night. To let the application switch automatically from day

colours to night colours when sunrise or sunset occurs, or when you enter or exit a

tunnel choose Automatic.

Colour schemes: select to choose a map theme. Additional colour schemes can be

downloaded from the online Shop.

View mode: select to change the perspective of the navigation screen; You can

choose among 2D perspective, 3D perspective and Satellite.

3D objects: select to enable or disable the three-dimensional objects: 3D buildings

and 3D landmarks).

Viewing angle: select to set the 3D perspective effect.

Points of interest: select to display or hide points-of-interest on the map.

mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine): select to improve the quality of the

image under bright conditions.

4.2.2. Map screen layout

Show scale: select to show or hide the map scale in 2D perspective.

Show favourites: select to display or hide favourites (landmarks) on the map.

Arrow view: select to display in full screen mode the current change of direction

during navigation or simulation. The arrow will be bright, the navigation screen will be

dim.

Notify: select to display in full screen mode the current change of direction during

navigation or simulation. The arrow will be transparent, the navigation screen will be

dim.

Rotate map: select to keep the GPS arrow always oriented upwards, regardless of

your actual travelling direction.

4.2.3. Units

Select the system of measurement by choosing Metric or Imperial.

4.2.4. Backlight

Select the screen illumination. Choose among Always on, When driving or When

walking.

4.3. Sound

The sound controls are available in More – Settings – Sound

4.3.1. Dynamic volume: select to create a correlation between sound level and

cruising speed.

4.3.2. Volume: select to set the sound intensity.

4.3.3. Voice language: select to set the language of the voice guidance.

4.4. Speed

To set the speed values you prefer for all types of roads, select More – Settings –

Speed. The speed values are used to calculate the routes and to estimate the travel

time.

View the assigned speed for all road types. If necessary, specify a different speed.

4.5. Alarm

To be warned in advance when you are approaching a specific location, select More –

Settings – Alarm. The warning will include a suggestive icon and the remaining

distance to that location.

4.5.1 Points of interest

You can set the warnings for a particular category, for several categories, or for all the

points of interest categories, by selecting the categories you are interested in.

You can customise your own alarm settings.

Select Warning distance to choose the distance at which you will be warned before

approaching a point of interest.

Select Warning sound to hear a warning sound before approaching a point of

interest.

Select Visual alarm to display a warning icon.

Select Warn only along route if you are interested in locations exactly near the road.

Unselect Warn only along route if you are interested also in locations in the road

proximity of 50 meters / 60 yards.

4.5.2. Favourites

You can customise the alarm settings for the Favourites.

Select Warning distance to choose the distance at which you will be waned before

approaching a favourite.

Select Warning sound to play a warning sound before approaching a favourite.

Select Visual alarm to display a warning icon.

Select Warn only along route if you are interested in locations exactly near the road.

Unselect Warn only along route if you are interested also in locations in the road

proximity of 50 meters / 60 yards.

4.5.3. Speed alarms

You can set your maximum cruising speed in the Speed alarm field by specifying a

value. You will be warned when reaching this speed limit.

Select Visual Alarm to display a warning icon.

Select Acoustic alarm to play a warning sound.

4.5.4 Safety cameras

You can set the warnings for a particular category, for several categories, or for all

safety cameras categories, by selecting the categories you are interested in.

You can customise your own alarm settings.

approaching a safety camera.

4.6. GPS Information

To check the satellite data available, select More – Settings – GPS information. The

antenna symbol is green when the GPS position is available.

4.7. Statistics

To check the travelling summary, select More – Settings – Statistics.

4.8. Network

To configure the usage of additional services and internet connections, select More –

Settings – Network.

Select Network profile to manage your network settings.

Select Traffic Interval to set the frequency of updating the available traffic data.

Select Weather Interval to set the frequency of updating the available weather data.

Select Camera interval to set the frequency of updating to the most recent safety

cameras data base.

You need to have the corresponding licenses for these extra services in order to be

able to receive the updates.

6. Stop simulation

Select this option to stop the current simulation. This option is available only during

route simulation.

7. Stop navigation

Select this option to stop the current navigation. This option is available only during

navigation.

8. Current position

Select this option to display on the screen your current GPS position. This option is

available only when the GPS fix is available.

Navigation

Select this option to return to the navigation or simulation screen. This option is

available during map browsing and also when the cursor (pushpin) is activated. This

option replaces the Route icon when the Route option is not available.

bar.

The cursor menu

Tap the map to activate the cursor (the pushpin). Tap again the cursor to activate the

cursor menu.

Select Navigate to to drive or walk to the selected location.

Select Add to route to add the selected place to a route.

Select Show details to view the address details of a location.

How To

Walk to Your Destination

1. In the Options bar select Search by. Use the search options displayed on the

screen.

Select the most appropriate search result from the list. From the cursor menu select

Navigate to.

In the Travel mode dialog select Pedestrian.

The route will be calculated from your current position to the destination. View the

route preview and then select Start navigation to start walking to the selected

destination. In Pedestrian mode only the on-screen instructions are available.

To stop the navigation select More – Stop Navigation.

To select Pedestrian as your default navigation mode, go to More – Settings –

Navigation – Travel mode.

Drive to Your Destination

1. In the Options bar select Search by. Use the search options displayed on the

screen.

Select the most appropriate search result from the list. From the cursor menu select

Navigate to.

Select the route type: Fastest (Car) / Shortest (Car) / Fastest (Lorry) / Shortest

(Lorry).

The route will be calculated from your current position to the destination. View the

route preview and then select Start navigation to start walking to the selected

destination. On screen and vocal instructions are provided.

To stop the navigation select More – Stop Navigation.

To select your default navigation mode, go to More – Settings – Navigation –

Travel mode.

Avoid a route section ahead

To avoid a route section ahead while navigating, select Show shortcuts – Define

road block and specify the distance ahead to be avoided or choose Select from list.

A detour will be calculated if possible.

Add Favourites

To add a Favourite select Search by in the Options bar. Use the search options

displayed on the screen.

Select the most appropriate search result from the list and display it on the map. Click

on the cursor menu to activate the Options bar. Select then More – Save – Cursor

poition – Save as – New favourite – Done.

You can also save a Favourite directly by placing the cursor on the selected place

and then from the Options bar choosing More – Save – Cursor poition – Save as –

New favourite – Done.

Change the interface language

The navigation application interface language can be changed by changing the

phone’s interface language.

On the phone’s Main menu select Settings – General – Display language, choose

the language and chick on Set. On the dialog box that appears on the screen, select

Yes.
