Wisdom of the Saints “Why did God make some of us male and others female? Be-cause a woman’s love is one image of the love of God, and a man’s love is another image of God’s love. Both are created to love, but each in a different way. Woman and man complete each other, and together show forth God’s love more fully than either can do it alone” (Mother Teresa: Her Essential Wisdom ed. by Carol Kelly-Gangi, 2006).

"Pilate again said to them, 'Then what shall I do with the man whom you call the king of the Jews?' And they cried out again, 'Crucify him.'" - MARK 15:12-13 Jesus told us "whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me." Every day we are presented opportunities to help someone. Every day we have the opportunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Pray for the courage to stand up for those in need of our help.

Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal Happy Easter to All! Thank you to the many generous parish-ioners who have supported the 2015 Annual Appeal, which began just before Lent. During Lent, we are all challenged to grow in prayer, to fast, and to give alms in anticipation of this great Easter season! Your generosity to the Annual Appeal allows Catho-lics and non-Catholics alike throughout our four counties in New Jersey the opportunity to encounter the Risen Christ. Thousands of people are served annually by the Archdiocese of Newark through various programs and ministries funded by the Appeal. Our parish also benefits by receiving a rebate from the appeal if it exceeds its goal.

Parish Goal 2015: $54,589.00 Total Given to Date: $19,137.00 % of Goal: 35.06%

Please be sure to watch this year’s Annual Appeal vid-eo online at www.rcan.org/sharing to see firsthand the impact that YOUR gift makes.

If you have not made your gift; we encourage you to consider Sharing God’s Blessings.

Thank you again for your generosity and Happy Easter!

L et us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9)

The dictionary defines Perseverance as steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Easter speaks to us of great perseverance, especially that of Je-sus. Jesus endured all sorts of ridicule, torment, torture and a gruesome death on the cross in order to achieve our salvation. Saint James reminds us when he says, "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12). The crown that Christ received, the Resurrection, is the crown we will receive if we persevere in the trials that we encounter. If we face the trials with patience, faithfulness and hope, we will enjoy the resurrection and our salvation (see Romans 12:12). In life we have to face health is-sues, difficulties in relationships, disappointments, struggles in maintaining a decent standard of living, etc. Yet if we face these trials and tribulations with constant faith, enduring trust in God's love for us, and in the lasting knowledge that Christ suffered, died and was buried and rose on the third day! we will have achieved success in rising with Him. So let us be strengthened by the power of God so that we may have the great endurance and patience and joyful thanksgiving to the Father for having given us an inheritance in the Kingdom of Light. Perseverance also asks us to never quit in doing what is right. Jesus himself went about healing, expelling demons, and even raising the dead, despite many of his own people rejecting him and even wanting his death. St. Paul says, "And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right" (2 Thessalonians 3:13). This virtue of perseverance guides us to do what is right even in adversity, and when in adversity to keep us faithful. In the early Church, many Christians were martyred because they kept the faith, they endured the suffering and received the crown of eternal life. Many however, could not persevere and denied Christ. Later they were forgiven and received back into the Church, but only after a very long and public penance which if nothing else instilled in the virtue of perseverance.

Pax Christ, Fr. Paul

Fr. Mayhel Velásquez
