Dear Sandburg Families and Friends, An active and supportive PTA goes a long way in shaping a positive school culture, and that’s exactly what we have at Sandburg. Thanks to the Sandburg PTA, Mr. Lee is here again this year doing his science magic with all classrooms. The PTA Family Movie Night last Saturday was also a wonderful event that many families attended and had a great time. My sincere thanks go to Henna Dracopoulos and the many volunteers who made this such an enjoyable night. I also thank the PTA for sponsoring our classroom parties, like the Valentine’s parties this Friday. We’ve had a total of three winter weather nonattendance days so far this year. It’s not official yet, but based on the previous few years, I’m confident that we will be making these days up at the end of the school calendar in June. Hopefully, we’ve seen the last snow day this year. We had an all-school assembly this week launching our “Guidelines for Success”. Every Sandburg student is eligible to receive tickets for displaying behavior that supports one of our four guidelines, which are be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and do your best. Ask your child about it. February’s reading strategy is inferring. Readers use their prior knowledge (schema) and textual information to draw conclusions, make critical judgments, and form interpretations from text. Inferences may occur in the form of conclusions, predictions, or new ideas. A great way to introduce and practice inferring is through riddles! Give it a try when reading with your own children. One of our school improvement strategies this year is in the area of writing. Several Sandburg teachers have worked together to develop increased continuity to the writing process, kindergarten through fifth grade, which also includes a common vocabulary. They presented this information at our last Institute Day in January. As a result, we are already seeing more consistency from one grade level to the next in writing instruction. Apparently, the groundhog saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter weather. I’m not sure how accurate he has been, but either way, Spring is not too far off. That means an increase in school activities and events. Please pay close attention to the school calendar. Thanks again for your continued support of our school. Sandburg is a great place thanks to you. YOU’RE INVITED TO AN “EAT OUT 2 HELP OUT” EVENT!

Thank you for assisting the organization/group listed below in their efforts to raise funds with our “EAT OUT 2 HELP OUT” event. We

realize every dollar counts and we will do our best to provide a fun atmosphere with high quality food and service to make a

memorable and profitable experience for the organization. It’s an all-day event, so you can come for lunch, dinner or both (open to

close). You can bring your business colleagues from work for lunch and then the family for dinner! Make sure you bring a flyer to

each visit!

These flyers may be copied and passed out to anyone and everyone PRIOR to the scheduled event. ANYONE suspected of passing out flyers on the day of the event on VTG property results in a penalty deduction or forfeit of the entire donation. Unfortunately, this clause was added due to past abuse of our charitable nature.

This flyer must be turned into your server at the time of payment alone with a copy of your bill in order to receive credit for the donation. Once you’ve left the building, you may not return with a flyer to apply to a bill.

Although groups may request sitting in the same section when booking the event, it is not necessary to receive the donation. We may not be able to grant all seating requests.

20% of the pre-taxed bill, minus any discounts will be donated back to the organization including carry-out orders.

If your organization is interested in booking an “EAT OUT 2 HELP OUT” event at the Village Tavern & Grill of Carol Stream, please call (630)-668-1101
