November 2017
Dear Sandburg Families and Friends,
We had a great turnout for our Veterans Day flag-raising ceremony last Friday.
Thank you for inviting friends and family who have or are serving in the
military. We should never take our freedom for granted. It was our pleasure to
honor our veterans and teach our students the importance of celebrating the men
and women who have faithfully sacrificed so much for our country.
Next week is our Thanksgiving Recess. This clearly should not be the only time
we express our gratitude, but it continues to be a great reminder to count our
blessings and reflect on all for which we are thankful. I, for one, have a list that
is a mile long. Very near the top of that list is Sandburg School. I have been so
fortunate to be able to call Sandburg my home for the last two decades. Our
students, staff, and families are second to none. I thank all of you for making
Sandburg a truly great school. Happy Thanksgiving!
I encourage you to take advantage of the many giving opportunities here at
Sandburg. We are in need of winter clothing like boots, winter coats,
snowpants, hats, and gloves or mittens. You can stop by the school office and
take an ornament from our Giving Tree as a way of helping fellow Sandburg
students and families during the holiday season. We are also taking donations
for the District 200 Christmas Sharing program. It’s wonderful being a part of a
community that cares so much. Thanks!
Please join us for Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 9, 8:30 & 10: 30
AM. Also, I hope to see everyone at our Holiday Program on Wednesday,
December 20th at Wheaton North High School. Our Kindergarten, 1st grade,
and 2nd grade students will perform at 6:15 PM, and our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade
students, including the Chorus will perform at 7:00 PM.
I look forward to seeing many of you during the holiday season, and I thank you
for your continued partnership with our school.
Sincerely,
Aaron Bacon

Giving Tree Program Holiday sharing continues at Sandburg as always. We are also planning to continue our giving tree program. In this program, families in need indicate a specific need and a desired gift for each child in their family. They may also make a request for a need for their household. Each of these needs/gifts will be written on a paper ornament and placed on a holiday tree in the school. If they would like to, Sandburg families and staff members may choose the gifts that they would like to provide for these families by taking an ornament, registering it on a form in the office, buying the gifts and turning them in to the Sandburg office by December 7th. The program is confidential so that givers and receivers are unaware of each others’ identities. Ornaments will be available starting on Halloween. If you are unable to come to Sandburg to choose an ornament and you would like one sent home to you, please turn in the form below or email Laura Sychowski at [email protected]. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Sychowski (682-2105).
Please also remember our coat drive Welcome to fall and cooler weather! Once again, we are organizing a coat drive for this winter. If you have any outgrown winter gear (eg. Boots, coats, snowpants gloves, scarves) that is in good condition, we will be collecting them over the next couple of months through December 4th. We always have special need for snowpants, gloves and boots. Sandburg families will have the first chance to choose from the coat drive items. Anything that is left will be given to holiday sharing. Items can be brought to the office. Please separate outerwear from other items you are contributing to holiday sharing and mark the bags as “coat drive” If you have questions, please call Laura Sychowski at (630) 682-2105. Thank you for your help!
Thank You So Much!
