The Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriott in La Vista are proud to be award-winning hotels for being Project SEARCH host sites – a school-to-work program for students with intellectual and development disabilities in partnership with the Papillion La Vista Community Schools and Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation.
Their classroom is onsite, where their learning experience includes three rotations of 10 weeks each in a range of hotel and conference departments that include housekeeping, engineering, restaurants, kitchens and banquets. Guests and staff alike appreciate their integration and soon discover their unique skills are a valuable asset. Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriott also host a Business Advisory Council that assists the students in finding meaningful employment following course completion. Having placed 26 out of 27 students who have completed the program since 2013, the hotel team members are looking forward to coaching and teaching the class of 2016.

BELLEVUE: WHERE THE GOOD LIFE KEEPS GETTING BETTER It’s easy to feel right at home in Nebraska’s oldest settlement—and Sarpy County’s largest city. Originating as a fur-trading post in 1822, Bellevue earned its name from trappers who admired the city’s “beautiful view” of the wooded bluffs surrounding the majestic Missouri River.

GRETNA: WHERE THE WELCOME MAT IS ALWAYS SET OUTThe city originally sprang from an old Irish immigrant settlement called Forest City when the Burlington Railroad began laying down tracks in the area. Legend has it that Gretna was named by the railroad for the Gretna Green Community in Scotland. But no one knows for sure.

PAPILLION / LA VISTA: WHERE PROGRESS IS INEVITABLE . . . AND BEAUTIFUL According to legend, fur trappers who came upon the area stumbled upon thousands of butterflies flying in the sunlight, causing one member of the exploring party to exclaim “Papillon!”
—the French word for butterfly.
La Vista is Nebraska’s youngest and fastest-growing city. La Vista also happens to be the second city in Sarpy County to be named for its setting, adopting the Spanish translation for “the view.”
