If you are taking a taxi to SAS (or carpooling with someone whose final destination is not SAS), you can ask to be dropped off at a pedestrian gate. The East Gate is near PS and IS, while the MS Gate is near MS, HS, and ECC. Please see the map on page 3 for more details.

Can visitors (who don’t have SASCards or vehicle passes) come in during peak periods?Visits during these times are discouraged. But if they can’t be avoided, please inform Security ([email protected]) in advance. Peak-period visitors should come in on foot and register at the Main Security Post.

The use of bicycles, skateboards, and skates are allowed on campus during off-peak periods. You must wear a helmet and stay on the road. Skating or cycling on footpaths, in corridors, fields, etc. is prohibited.

Pedestrians must stay on the footpaths. If you need to cross the road, use crosswalks and look out for traffic before stepping on to the road.

Drive carefully! Be alert and patient. Obey all traffic rules and signs. Indicate your intentions early, and do not tailgate. Look out for, and give way to, anyone who might be crossing the road. Arrive early for any event and park properly at designated parking areas. When dropping off passengers, use designated drop-off points—car parks, the CA driveway, or before crosswalks. Do not drop off passengers in the middle of a crosswalk.

TRAFFICHow do I avoid school day traffic jams on campus?Hundreds of school buses go in and out of SAS every school day, so it’s best to avoid competing with them for road space during peak periods. See below, or scan the QR code for traffic flow and parking schematics:

Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, but we should still be careful—both on or off campus.

Keep valuables locked away, and don’t keep the keys, combination, or password where a thief can find it.

Secure your office, home, and vehicle, especially before going on holiday.

If you need to file a report with the Singapore Police Force, you can use one of the methods below.

ON CAMPUS

I’ve lost something! Please check with your respective division offices or the Security office. If you believe the item was left on a school bus, please check with the bus office.

I have information on an alleged theft or other crime. Please make a formal report to your division office or immediate supervisor.

In addition to its primary purpose as an identification card, the SASCard is also used for:

1. Access through card-activated doors, turnstiles and gates.

2. Food purchases at the school cafeterias, Food Haven (Eagle Zone and pizza), and Subway

3. Booster Booth purchases4. Student Store purchases5. PTA (uniform) purchases6. Yeap Transportation bus access 7. Library checkouts8. Copying and printing through Fuji Xerox

multi-function devices• Support provided by Xerox Help

([email protected]) and IT Help ([email protected])

9. Off-campus use as a NETS Flashpay card (optional)

• Public transport––MRT/LRT, buses, Comfort and CityCab taxis

• ERP gantries• Over 15,000 retail points (details

at www.netsflashpay.com.sg)Note that the “on-campus” cafeteria account and “off-campus” NETS Flashpay accounts are separate. You cannot use cafeteria funds for NETS purchases and vice versa. Both accounts are prepaid, declining balance accounts where the balance is reduced with each purchase.

All employees are issued a

SASCard upon joining the school. Only one SASCard may be held by an individual at any given time. If you already have a parent SASCard prior to joining SAS as an employee, you will be asked to turn it in before collecting your employee SASCard.Employees are required to turn in their SASCard at the end of their stay with SAS. For security reasons, all employees are strongly encouraged to wear their SASCard while on campus.

Are there fees attached to the SASCard?Lost/replacement SASCards will incur a $20.00 fee, payable at the SASCard Office.Employees may apply for the optional spouse, family or helper SASCards at $20.00 each. The validity of these optional cards will be associated with the sponsor’s employment with SAS. Alternatively, visitors may exchange a Singapore photo ID at the main security post for a visitor badge instead.Credit card top-up online is subject to a convenience fee of $1 per transaction. Because funds remain safe in your cafeteria account, we recommend adding more funds, less frequently, when topping up online.

Is there a minimum and maximum balance required? No.

Where can I top up my cafeteria account?

Page 8: SAS Facilities Handbook 2013-14

Where can I top up my NETS Flashpay account? If you have a DBS or POSB bank account, you can use the DBS ATM in the HS foyer to top up your NETS Flashpay account. See http://www.netsflashpay.com.sg for more information.

What is the SASCard Online Center? The SASCard Online Center is a password-protected website where you can view your individual SASCard account information. Through this website, http://webcard.sas.edu.sg, you have access to transaction history and current balances. You have the ability to report a card lost or found, set up a low-balance reminder, and top up an account using PayPal, Visa, or MasterCard. There is a one-time registration required for use of this site where you will need an email address and the ID numbers and legal names of the card holders you plan to register under the account.

Can I register more than one student on the SASCard account?Yes!  All card holders in your family may be registered under one master account which requires a single email address and password.

What do I do if I forget my online SASCard account password? You may either request your password hint or a new password to be sent to your registered email. If you no longer have access to the original email account, please notify the SASCard Office at [email protected] or 6360 6075 and your account will be reset.  You will need to re-register after your account is reset.

What do I do if my registration is not working? Please notify the SASCard Office at [email protected] or 6360 6075 and we will be happy to assist you.

How do I set up a low-balance notification?Preferences for a low-balance email notification must be set up on your SASCard account page.  Once logged in, follow the “preferences” link and fill in the desired minimum notification balance and the email address to which the notification should be sent.It is important to note that you must set up the low-balance reminder upon activating EACH card account in your family.  We recommend that all students have a low-balance reminder set up to notify a parent via email so that they may never have insufficient funds for a cafeteria lunch purchase.

How do I view my SASCard account transaction history?Transaction histories may be displayed for up to six months on your online SASCard account.  Information displayed for each transaction includes date/time, location, account, type of transaction, amount of transaction, and remaining balance.

Can I see the items purchased with the SASCard?Through your online SASCard Account, you can see where and how much was spent at any given transaction, though not the individual items purchased.  This feature is under development.

8

Page 9: SAS Facilities Handbook 2013-14

Can I place a daily spending limit on my card? No.  This is not a feature of the current system.

What should I do if I lose my SASCard? If you lose your SASCard, you may deactivate it 24/7 through your online SASCard Account. Alternatively, you may deactivate the SASCard by reporting it lost to [email protected] during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, Mondays - Fridays.  Only the SASCard Online Center provides for immediate deactivation.  There is a $20.00 fee for replacement cards.  All replacement SASCards may be purchased at the SASCard Office.

What do I do if I find my lost SASCard?Report the SASCard “found” online at your SASCard account or (personally) at the SASCard Office.  Your account will be immediately reactivated once the card is reported as found.

If a SASCard is lost, what happens to the funds in the cafeteria account?Since the SASCard itself does not hold the cafeteria account money, once the card is deactivated, the funds remain secure in your account until a new card can be issued or the original card is located and reinstated.  However, there is no refund for the NETS Flashpay portion.

Do I use my SASCard for the Yeap Transportation buses? The SASCard is required for all employees, Intermediate, Middle, and High School students

to board the Yeap Transportation buses.  Preschool to Grade 2 currently use a separate bus card issued by Yeap Transportation.

Can I get a refund if my SASCard has unused funds remaining?Yes. If you are leaving SAS, contact the SASCard Office at [email protected] or 6360 6075 to arrange a refund.

How do I determine how much money is left on my SASCard?Account balances are displayed at all of the cash registers following a transaction, at the Student Store, at top-up machines on campus, and by logging into your SASCard account.

Can I put a hole in my SASCard to attach a lanyard? No. Any holes placed in the SASCard will deactivate the card.

HOW DO I USE IT? 1Log in with your SAS email address at bit.ly/sasdude. 2Fill out and submit the

request form (the password is password).

GET THINGS DONEWITH THE DUDENeed extra cleaning for your classroom? Smell something funky in the office? Submit your request through SchoolDude, the online help desk of the Facilities and Services Office.

What if it’s an emergency? Please call the Facilities office at x6376 immediately.

What if it’s not an emergency, but I didn’t use SchoolDude?Your request will be processed, but there may be some delay if there is a high volume of requests. For example: if you submit a SchoolDude request at 5:30 p.m. on a Friday, the system will automatically give it a queue number and forward it to the relevant person for action. If you had emailed it, the email recipient might not be able to process it until Monday morning––by which time several other requests might already have been given a lower queue number. Last year, Facilities staff completed as many as 68 requests in one day!

Can I use The Dude to book after-hours AC? Yes. Please go to page 14 to learn more.

Can I use The Dude to book rooms? No. Please continue to use the forms from your division.

How will SchoolDude benefit me? On the website, you’ll see all your Facilities requests, with real-time status updates and information on who is on the job. It’s a digital trail that you, Facilities staff, and administrators can always access––making it harder for things to fall through the cracks. Statistics help us improve response times, distribute workload fairly, and increase accountability and service quality.

For additional support for all things SchoolDude, please call x6013 or x6380.

Alternatively, you can call x6013 or x6380 and we’ll make the change for you.

What’s our organization number? It’s 134161523. To skip this step, always use bit.ly/sasdude or the QR code on this page.

If you’ve already bookmarked or favorited the link, but are still prompted for the organization number, check if your browser has captured the correct address:

• Google Chrome > Bookmarks menu > Bookmark Manager > right-click the SchoolDude bookmark > Edit...

• Apple Safari (Mac) > Bookmarks menu > Show All Bookmarks > right-click the SchoolDude bookmark > Edit Address

• Apple Safari (iOS) > Bookmarks icon > Edit > tap the SchoolDude bookmark > tap the address field

• Mozilla Firefox > Bookmarks menu > Show All Bookmarks > right-click the SchoolDude bookmark > Location

• Microsoft Internet Explorer > Favorites menu > Edit Favorites

If you find that the address is different, please change it to bit.ly/sasdude.

I tried to log in but my email address was not recognized. You are not in the database yet. Follow the prompts to set up your account.

Short link not short enough for you? Scan this QR code with your smartphone, tablet, or even computer camera!

Make sure that you are connected to the internet, and that you have an app that can read QR codes.

There are many good, free QR code readers available on every platform, including iOS and Mac App Stores, the Google Play Store, or Android Market.

If you have a Blackberry, you already have a code reader preloaded in Blackberry AppWorld or Blackberry Messenger.

Note: many scanning apps do not handle popup windows well. So instead of using the Building popup menu, type the room number directly in the Area/Room Number or Description field. 11

Page 12: SAS Facilities Handbook 2013-14

SCHOOLDUDE HELPHow do I check the status of my requests?Click on the My Requests tab on top of the request form. Pending requests are categorized as Works in Progress. Completed requests will have the date and time when they were marked as Complete.

I want to change the personal details (e.g. room/phone number) associated with my account.Click on the Settings tab on top of the request form, make the necessary changes, and key in password to save.

I can’t find the correct room number in the Building list.Make sure that you selected the correct Location before opening the Building list. E.g. if your request is for the MS Gym (S217), the correct Location is “S Rooms (Shared MS/HS)”, not “M Rooms (Middle School)”. Click on Change Location to fix it.

If the problem persists, type the room number in the Area/Room Number field instead.

12

Page 13: SAS Facilities Handbook 2013-14

HOUSEKEEPINGHow often is my room cleaned? Once a day, every school day.

How is it cleaned?Housekeepers generally:

✓ Wipe down major surfaces

✓ Empty rubbish bins

✓ Sweep, mop, or vacuum the floor

✓ Periodically sanitize phones

Housekeepers generally do not:

Wash dishes or return cafeteria property

Dust books or knick-knacks

Empty paper recycling bins

Empty bins/boxes that appear to contain important items, e.g. shoes or sports equipment, unless explicitly instructed to do so

What about white boards?Different teachers have different preferences when it comes to erasing white boards. Please discuss it with your assigned housekeeper to avoid misunderstandings.

What if my usual housekeeper is away? You will be assigned a substitute housekeeper. Please brief her on any agreements you have with your usual housekeeper.

How can I help my housekeeper?Food attracts ants and contributes to bacteria and mold growth. Please clean up immediately after eating, and return cafeteria property.

Do not keep used or sweaty clothes, shoes, towels, etc. in your room. Do not put fragile items where they might get knocked over accidentally.

Switch off all electric appliances and electronics at the wall at the end of the day and especially before going on holiday. Please label items that must stay on, e.g. aquarium pumps.

How are washrooms cleaned?Housekeepers clean washrooms several times a day. Sinks, counters, mirrors, floors, and toilets are cleaned; toilet paper and paper towel supplies are topped up if necessary. Washrooms attached to classrooms are cleaned once daily.

Let’s clean up after ourselves as much as possible. Remember that housekeepers have to clean several locations per shift; altogether, they clean up to 110,000 sq.m. per day!

If we help them out with the little things, they can focus on getting the big things right.

How can I request extra cleaning? For emergencies, e.g. vomit, please call x6376. For everything else, please fill out the online form at bit.ly/sasdude.

AIR-CONDITIONING

My room is too hot/cold!If you have a thermostat (usually located near a door), please adjust it. US and Singapore governments recommend 24-26ºC.

Often, people turn thermostats up when it’s raining, then forget to turn them back down. Other times, thermostats cannot sense the correct temperature because doors or windows are open.

If your room does not have a thermostat, or if the problem persists regardless of temperature settings, please report it online at bit.ly/sasdude.

My room has an unpleasant odor. For emergencies, e.g. smoke or exceptionally strong odors, please call x6376. Otherwise, please report it online at bit.ly/sasdude.

I need AC after hours. If you are planning extra- or co-curricular activities that require room booking, fill out the paper form provided by your division. Include the details of your AC requirements.

For after-hours AC not associated with an activity (e.g. you are working overtime and need AC in your classroom or office only), please submit a request online via bit.ly/sasdude, preferably a full working day in advance.

Please note that central AC is not available on Sundays and that limited AC is available on Saturdays and school nights.

Alternatively, you may try booking M301 or H301 through the respective divisions. These rooms have separate AC units that will work even when central AC is not available.

SUMMER WORKSOur large, beautiful campus is one of our greatest assets, and we work hard to enhance its value and maintain it to high aesthetic, functional, and safety standards. Every summer, hundreds of workers descend upon SAS to carry out heavy-duty renovation projects that would have been too disruptive to attempt during a regular semester. That’s why every August, teachers and students come back to find pleasant surprises at every turn—from subtle changes to (literally) Big A** transformations.

Your deputy principal will brief you on how to submit proposals for Summer Works 2014. Stay tuned!

This year, the MS Gym underwent a $3.9-million renewal involving new timber flooring; a more flexible layout for event hosting; better integration of multimedia; and more efficient cooling. The MS playfield and locker rooms were also upgraded.

15

We also installed 3,356 solar panels—measuring over 6 feet by 3 feet each—making SAS the home of the largest single-site

photovoltaic energy system in Singapore! The 1-MWp installation will supply around 10 percent of our annual energy needs and

provide endless learning opportunities for the entire community.
