    Message from the Director General

The highest densely-populated district in Sri Lanka, Colombo being commercially vibrantand complex with mixed human priorities, varied vulnerabilities - obvious and latent areperiodically emerging. Thus, the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) falls into serious

challenges to provide humanitarian assistance amidst many restrictions due to complexcommercial nature of the district. As its complexities and inadvertent urban plans create vulnerabilities, it is significant ifDisaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is integrated into the planning. It is obvious that people in Colombo have shown their benevolence by helping others onvaried matters and Colombo is often expected to be supportive towards other districts.SLRCS Colombo district branch has always shown its eager to serving most vulnerablepeople addressing varied complex matters. With its volunteers and staff, it has derivedvarious tangible benefits to the vulnerable communities. Since tsunami recovery operation, its innovative contribution - in the purviews of housing construction, health, disastermanagement and water & sanitation is praiseworthy.

Our service to most vulnerable people is beyond to be worded. I wish Red Crossvolunteers and staff of Colombo district strength to strength to continue the solemnhumanitarian service to most vulnerable people in our country.
