Term 1 Week 5 2021
School Leaders I am pleased to announce the Head Girl and
Head Boy for 2021. Congratulations are extend-
ed to Year 6 students Lara Herdman and Dean
Sabanagic on being elected to these positions.
To be considered for this role, nominees were
required to complete a written statement outlin-
ing why they would be the best person for the
position. The nomination forms were then en-
dorsed by the nominee’s teacher before being
approved by the Principal. Each candidate had
to give a speech to his/her peers before the
election.
I am positive that these two students will carry
out their roles and responsibilities well and with
pride. They are both confident, mature and re-
spectful students who have been wisely chosen
by their peers.
School Council School Council elections will be taking place soon for classroom representatives
from Years 3-6. Mrs Saxena has taken on the role of coordinating the School Coun-
cil.
Aussie of the Month The school is re-introducing the ‘Aussie of the
Month’ program. The purpose of the program is to
give recognition to personal endeavor, achievement
and contribution by our students in the community. It
reflects some of the values we share as Australians
including giving people a fair go, mateship, respect
and inclusion.
If your son or daughter are doing something out in
the community which you think needs recognition?
Perhaps it’s not your child but someone you know who attends Beckenham.
If so please let me know by emailing [email protected]
Parent Interviews – Term 1 Reports At the end of this term, Interim reports will be sent home. Following this there will be
an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the classroom teacher. In order
to accommodate this, school will close at 12pm on Wednesday April 28th
in order
that interviews can be conducted between 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
Information on how to book an interview will be sent home later this term.

FOODBANK INCURSION - SAKG
On Thursday, the 18 February the year 5/6 and year 6 classes
had a Food Sensations for Schools incursion. They learnt about healthy eating, did a fun nutrition education activity to-
gether and cooked up a storm. Both classes cooked 6 healthy and delicious recipes together
and at the end they all sat down and shared a meal. Students
were given recipe books to take home. I’m so looking forward to
seeing what they cook next. If you want to know more about Foodbank WA and their FREE

Angkor Project Fundraising Helps Chambak PS Brick by Brick
It is always exciting to see the end results of any fundraising efforts, and the money raised Beckenham PS for our
sister school, Chambak PS in the Kampong Spue province of Cambodia, is no exception.
In 2020, work commenced with the construction of a much needed toilet block for the school. With over 1000 stu-
dents, the school only had one toilet block which was used by staff, the students and the local community. Adding
another toilet block in the school was well overdue and through the money raised by Beckenham PS over the last
couple of years, this has now been realised.
Money was raised at Beckenham PS by the ‘Walk to School’ and breakfast days that were organised by Mrs Hear-
man and the student councillors, and it is hoped this fundraising continues in 2021 and the future.
Mr Chanthoeurn ‘Chan’ Sat, a head teacher at Chambak PS and the Angkor Project funding coordinator at the
school has nothing but an enormous appreciation for the parents, teachers and students at Beckenham PS, who
have made donations towards the Angkor Project.
“On behalf of the Principal, all the teachers and the students at Chambak PS, I would like to give a blessed and re-
spectable thanks all the children and families of Beckenham PS. Our school is now enjoying your generosity. I wish
you all happiness forever and success every day”, wrote Mr Chan.
Mr Stephen Davis visited the school in 2019 as part of the Angkor Project and saw first hand how important this pro-
ject has been for the school. “School infrastructure is largely the responsibility of the school and any works, big or
small is the responsibility of the community. Without teachers like Mr Chan, who has the enthusiasm and determina-
tion to make the school the best it can be for the students and staff, none of these types of projects would occur”.
Through fundraising, the school has also installed solar lighting, improved paving and playing areas, new water tanks
to collect water and has an active plastic recycling initiative in the school. “I am so proud of Beckenham’s fundraising
efforts and especially when you see every cent raised goes directly to helping the school”.

MESSAGES FORM THE OFFICE
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
A reminder to anyone who has not paid their Voluntary Contributions as yet, you only have 2 weeks left to go into
the draw to win a $50.00 School Credit Voucher. Winner will be contacted by phone. Thank you to those parents
who have already paid.
IMAGE AND WORK PUBLISHING FORM
The pink ‘Image and Work Publishing Permission’ form, must be returned to the office immediately. We need per-
mission from PARENTS to publish video or photographic images of your child and/or samples of your child’s school
work. Unless this is signed, we cannot place your child or their work in the Newsletter, office TV etc.
STUDENT HEALTH CARE SUMMARY FORM
A green Form 1 Student Health Care Summary form also went home yesterday. This is a Department of Education
form that must also be completed in full, regardless of your child having any medical issues or not.
UPDATE PHONE AND ADDRESS DETAILS
Parents, please remember to update your mobile phone numbers and change of address to the front office as soon
as either of the above happens. There have been recent incidents where we were unable to reach any contacts on
our system for a severely injured student. This not only distresses the child but also puts the child at risk not able to
get immediate medical assistance.
SUBWAY ORDER FORMS
The Subway order form is now pink. Please do not use the old green ones. Remember it must be in the blue box
outside of Admin no later than Tuesday end of school day. No EFTPOS facilities are available, so it’s correct cash
only.
HELPING HANDS BECKENHAM
Service Program: The Helping Hands Beckenham Team would like to share some of our embedded prac-
tices which we use to share children’s learning experiences with their families on regular basis. There are several
ways, to list a few, the parents are shown their child’s work at the end of the day when they come for pick up. Some
Kindy children shared their likes and completed ‘All About Me’ and ‘Overall Me’. Dylan and Ralph are both Kindy
children and completed their work beautifully with some writing assistance from educators. Their mothers were so
proud of their child’s achievement when they were shown the work. They also made the comment that they feel so
satisfied and pleased to see their child feel comfortable with educators and ASC environment.
Moreover, Service Philosophy was updated and we sought parents and children’s contributions. Zi Qing, a child who attends ASC shared her thoughts and wrote a very meaningful contribution which was later showed to her mother. Additionally, Our Friendship Flower, a craft activity was created with children. This teaches them social skills about showing kindness to one another. The other ways we implement are sharing with parents about their child’s day at HH verbally, show them pictures of their child engaged in an activity, show them visual diary and sharing of observations and Critical Reflections on their child. All the children lead our weekly program by sharing their activity ideas. Some children suggested to do Hama Beading which became so popular that we continue to do beading every day and during both care sessions. We celebrated Dr Seuss’ Birthday on 2
nd March and World Wild-
life Day on 3rd
March. Some more exciting family projects are in progress.
