Overview of remaining labs in this semester
• This Lab and onwards will give you hands-on experience of using SAP R/3.
• These exercises are designed to demonstrate various SAP processes within SAP R/3.
• You will write small ABAP/4 scripts as well.
• As it is impossible to cover all modules our focus will remain on PP, MM, SD, QM and PM only

SAP IDES INTRODUCTION
IDES – the "Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System"
• IDES represents a model company. It consists of an international group, with subsidiaries in several countries.
• Consider yourself as an IDES employee to be part of a SAP application simulation
• IDES contains application data for various realistic business scenarios. IDES uses easy-to-follow business scenarios to show you the comprehensive functions of the R/3 System.
• The focal point of IDES, however, is not the functionality itself, but the business processes and their integration.

SAP IDES INTRODUCTION
IDES – DESCRIBED• IDES covers all aspects that are present in an enterprise
such as the Logistics to Financials to Human Resources etc.
• It demonstrates SAP functionality for types of industries, from discrete production through to process industries, from engineering-to-order to repetitive manufacturing.

SAP IDES INTRODUCTION
The Structure of the IDES Group
• The IDES group comprises four subgroups. – The European subgroup consists of five companies
• North America has two. – Asia & Latin America consists of one company each.–
• Each of these companies has its own clearly defined business objectives within the consolidated group and is organized according to local business practices and legal requirements.
• Consolidation takes place across the financial areas. – For example, the French subsidiary operates solely as a
sales company– The American and German subsidiaries produce goods, as
well as carrying out purchasing and sales activities.

SAP LOGON
A key concept “A must know”
• The R/3 System is a client system• The client concept enables parallel working, in a single system,
by several enterprises that are independent (in business terms) of each other.
• During each user session you can only access the data of the client selected during the logon.
• During your lab your enterprise or company or organization’s (SE464Lab) client ID is 800 which has been set as default.
• Go to e:\shortcuts\SAPLOGON icon to start SAP. • Click on SE464Lab to start the logon process• SAP needs a protected access therefore a user name & a
password is required for logon.

• These transactions represent the range of functions users typically need at their workstations.
• Activity groups (user roles) are formed so that users of the SAP System can work with user-specific menus. Users who have been assigned to an activity group can choose between the user menu and the SAP standard menu.
• The screenshot shows the role-based user menu for the “Accounts Receivable Supervisor” as an example.

Key Concepts & Terminologies
Some Terminologies• Integration
Integration is where several modules make use of the same data, which is the fundamental property of an ERP system.
• Master DataData that remains unchanged for an extended period of time (in contrast to transactional data). Contains info that is used in the same way for similar objects. Examples are suppliers (name, address and banking information), materials, customers.

Master Data contains the records that remain in the database over an extended period of time, are maintained centrally and shared across application modules to eliminate data redundancy.

The logic of the organization of master data and other procedures in the system is built on Organizational elements. These are:
•Company code--an independent accounting unit. •Sales organization-- responsible for marketing. •Distribution Channel-- the means though which sales material reaches the customer, e.g. wholesale, retail, etc. •Division--used to segment a business into lines. •Plant-- a manufacturing facility or warehouse. •Shipping point-- a fixed location that carries out shipping activities.
