    A Note from Pastor Fred

    Going Green

No doubt about it, I am a New Englander who is more than happy that I have found

my way to Virginia. Yes, we had a colder winter than usual this year, but compared

with what we have heard from our friends in Massachusetts we have no cause to

complain. Further, springtime here just cant be beat. It comes much earlier, has a lot

more early flowers and shrubs and there is no waiting for the heaps of piled up snow

to melt away even into the month of May.

Here in Virginia I have come to appreciate the greater variety of the color green; the

light green of spring the deepens throughout the summer in the more abundance of

    different trees and bushes.

Now is also time for the color green in our church, it is the color that stays with us all

through the summer and into the fall. During this time the readings from the lectionary

concentrates on the teachings of Jesus. We are presented with many of the parables

and stories of him encountering people of all kinds. These readings give us the

opportunity to really grow spiritually, to take the stories into our hearts and compare

them with the events that make up our lives.

Somehow I see this all within the green that surrounds us. Like fruit starting small and

green on the tree and gradually growing through the nourishment of the word, moving

closer and closer to a growing knowledge and understanding of one's faith that finally

ripens into new expressions of what it means to be a child of God. Who could know

    what going green could mean.

    In Peace,

    Pastor Fred

    Happy Father’s Day!

On June 15, 2015 we will rejoice in the gift of family. We give thanks to God for our fathers and all those, young and old, male and female, who share their love with us, and nurture and care for us. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

    Flower Dedications

The Ministry of flowers is an important part of

the Sunday Service at St. Luke Lutheran. Flowers

are used to beautify our sanctuary and are a gift

to God and those who attend worship services.

Altar flowers may be dedicated to “The Glory of

God”, “In Memory of” a loved one or “In Honor

of” a special person, an anniversary, birthday,

birth, baptism or other special event. More than one person may

find a certain date important so flowers may be given in more than

one name on any given Sunday.

If you would like to donate and dedicate flowers for any Sunday

service, arrangements cost $27.00 each. You will be billed directly

from Coleman Brothers Flowers and the flowers will be delivered

to the church. The flowers are yours to take home after the service

that Sunday or you can ask that they be taken to one of our ill or

homebound members. Please sign up on the flower chart located in

    the fellowship hall.

Please contact the church office or Jean Stewart if you have any

    questions. Thank you.

Would you like to be part of our Worship Service?

Sunday Worship services are a very important part of our church life here at St. Luke. Every Sunday, our church mem-bers participate in our worship service as Acolytes, Assisting Ministers, Crucifers and Ushers. We also have Altar Guild members who set up for Sunday services, Altar Bread Bakers, Chancel Choir members, Bell Choir members, Musicians and many other Committee Members who serve the Lord and St. Luke by providing their time, talents and energy.

If you are interested in serving and would like more information about these or other opportunities to be a part of our Worship Ministry, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Pastor Fred Marcoux or Tim Hesson for more information. You’ll be glad you did!

The 2015 Flower Chart is up in the fellowship hall.

If you haven’t signed up yet to provide Sunday altar flowers, won’t you consider doing so ? Please contact Tammy in the office at 804-272-0486 or Jean Stewart at 804-276-2690 if you have any questions or would like more information. .

Do you have something for the

    Church Newsletter?

The July/August 2015 Newsletter Deadline is June 10th. Please call in or e-mail in your submissions with your all of your July and August meeting dates and notices to Tammy in the church office as soon as possible. Thank you. 804-272-0486 [email protected]

    STOP HUNGER NOW!

We need 40-50 people to do this.

Mark your calendar and plan to be at church to help out!

During summer we need to raise $3,000.00 to pay for the food to make the meals! One way - is by using your Kroger Plus Card when you get groceries and gas. Register your Kroger Plus Card online at Kroger.com/communityrewards, by clicking on Enroll. You can then search for the church by name and link your Kroger Plus Card to the church. Every time you scan your card, the church starts earning a rebate. Don’t shop at Kroger? -It’s okay to drop a check in the offering plate with STOP HUNGER NOW in the memo line.

Thank you for your time and awesome talents in leading our Bible stud-
