Passen-gers who were in the taxi had to be treatedfor shock while both drivers of the NissanHardbody and Quantum Taxi were treated forhead injuries. Police were later told what hadhappened by eye witnesses. The queue mar-shal was last seen being escorted to a policevan. Both drivers needed medical attentionsince they were heavily bleeding from the im-pact of the collision.

SEBOKENG. - Zone 3 intersection came to a halton Thursday due to an accident that caused a ma-jor, three-hour traffic jam that left motorists baf-fled and frustrated. The accident shocked manyand left two drivers injured. Apparently an argu-ment over R15 between a taxi driver and the taxiqueue marshal led to the mayhem. According tobystanders, themarshal wanted his R15 from a taxidriver who drove through aNissanHarbody, smas-hing it. It is alleged that the queue marshal jumpedinto the taxi and fought with the taxi driver, cau-sing him to lose control of the vehicle. The queuemarshal allegedly had a knife and tried to stab thedriver for the R15 owed to him. “The queue mar-shal was fuming when he jumped into the taxi. What is unfortunate is that an unnecessary accidentresulted,” says an anonymous spectator. I was looking at one of the social networksover the past week and I could not believethat one of the bloggers on it wrote my exactthoughts. Her thoughts were about the child-ren that were born after so-called ‘democra-cy,’ ‘The born-frees’I could not agree more with the writer whenshe said that this lot expects things to be han-

ded to them on a silver platter, that they expectto be spoon-fed. This lot do not bother toshow initiative when it comes to most thingsin life and what they know best is how tomooch off others. Yes, the writer is correctwhen she said this lazy bunch always wantsyou to feel guilty for being able to pronouncewords properly, to feel as though being ableto spell or construct a proper sentence meansthat you are acting as if you are better thanthey are.

They always want you to feel guilty about

where you grew up, the kind of people youwere around, the places you went to, and theschools you attended.

They say you think you know better thanthey do because you choose to focus on thefuture and not the past.

They say you are a “clever black” becauseyou disagree with what they say and chooseto look at the bigger picture.

They say they are better “blacks” than youare and I find myself sitting and thinking: “Isthis a competition to prove how black theyare? No wonder we are not progressing as asociety. This young generation of loafers is

doomed and it forgets that it is the one thatis supposed to carry this country forward.

This week different congregations in diffe-rent churches will be celebrating the EasterWeekend.

Easter celebrates the victory of light andlife over darkness and death where new lifeis created and hopefully we are released fromthe bonds of self obsession, addiction andwhatever would steal away the radical free-dom of the Lord being with us.

As we travel to different parts of the count-ry this weekend let’s do so safely.

services. Among the officials are formerRatanda MMC for Community SafetyMluleki Nkosi, Lulama Gamede andNkosana Tshabalala.

Also others that were apparently invol-ved were Mpho Moloi, Thabo Seaga, Te-ressa Mofokeng, Mandlenkosi Radebe,Percy Sithole, and Themba Motsepe. “I amdelighted to be back in the party,” saidNkosi when interviewed by Sedibeng Sterrecently.

Shooting From The Hip is very sympathe-tic when it comes to the development ofsport – especially football - which is regar-ded as the No 1 sport in the world. Theydon’t call it a “Beautiful Game” for no-thing!

But there was nothing beautiful aboutthis sport when Hillside United receivedthree points on a silver platter (a walkover)against The Birds on Sunday. This was sup-

posed to be an exciting Safa Sedibeng CastleRegional League affair between The Birdsand Hillsides but turned out to be a disappo-inting afternoon for local soccer fans.

The game was called off by the match offi-cials - especially the visiting team Hillsides- due to the Boipatong Stadium pitch conditi-ons. The decision seemed to be harsh withthe local supporters waiting in anticipationfor the kick-off but in reality - the venue loo-ked like “garbage” or, should I say, a “pig-sty”.

There is no way the league match, especi-ally the Castle Regional League match, couldplay under those conditions.

Shooting From The Hip feels sorry for thehome team – The Birds FC - for losing a gamein that manner – without even kicking theball. Did I hear somebody say “football iscruel?” No football is not cruel – people whorun football are the ones that are heartless,to say the least.

Shooting From The Hip blames all the te-ams in Boipatong because they turned thisvenue into a “pig-sty”. How on earth can mo-re than five teams train in the same venue?I mean, nearly all Boipatong teams use thevenue for training and playing purposes. Nowonder the pitch looks littered!

Mind you, this is the only stadium in Boi-patong but the people who run teams in Boi-patong don’t give a damn about this venue.Shooting From The Hip was told that compa-ny soccer teams in the area also use the venueduring the week. There are also Masters soc-cer teams.

Shooting From The Hip always had a pro-blem with these Firm and Masters soccer te-ams because they play for fun. They are alsoresponsible for the state of this pitch. If I mayask - what do they play for? These are thepeople who are supposed to coach our yo-ungsters but they think they can still chasesoccer balls. Some of them can’t even run

because of their big “tummies” but theyplay soccer. This must stop!

Another problem with Boipatong is thatthere are too many soccer teams in the area, taking into consideration that Boipatong isjust a “matchbox” area. For example, thereare four teams that play in the EmfuleniLocal Football Association’s Vaal MillingPromotion League. So can you then expectthe venue to be in good condition? Never!

Why not only two strong teams that willmake the league? This would be interes-ting, especially when it is a derby match. As things stand now, everyone wants toown a soccer team in Boipatong as if it wasa “Pakistani tuck shop.”

What happened on Sunday was not agood advert for our football. We don’t wantto see teams winning the league with wal-kovers. Those teams that train at the stadi-um must go and negotiate with their schoolprincipals to use the schools’ facilities.

SEDIBENG. - Emfuleni Local Municipali-ty in conjunction with Marius Lennox,South Africa Boxing Training Judge, willofficially launch a boxing club at the SaulTsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14 onApril 2. This great news was revealed toSedibeng Ster Sport by the two parties du-ring a joint press conference at the Mooi-Vaal Media offices this week. EmfuleniLocal Municipality was represented by De-velopment sports officer Thandoxolo Ma-dikizela.The boxing club is part of an at-tempt to revive boxing in Sedibeng.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Lennox saidhis main worry is the growth of boxing

in this region. He says when the likesof Bongani Mahlangu, Gideon Butheleziand Chris van Heerden, retire from the pro-fession, there will be no-one to replacethem because boxing will be dead in Sedi-beng. He says there is a need to revive thestructure of boxing in this region such asthe Sedibeng Boxing Association. “Theformation of the club will help revive box-ing in this region. If the above-

mentioned boxers leave boxing, who willreplace them? This concern motivated usto search for new talent by opening onebig boxing club in the Vaal.

We will monitor progress and train thecoaches,” says Lennox. Madikizela saysit should be the municipality’s responsi-bility to support the growth of sport inour area. “As a municipality we will sup-port this initiative and provide the neces-sary equipment and facilities.

I’m very excited to be part of this initi-ative and I’m looking forward to thelaunch on April 2,” says a jubilant Madi-kizela.

According to Lennox they also intendto organise a workshop to train coacheswho will work at the gym. He says thereis also a serious need to open a boxinggym in the township to train these up-and-coming boxers. Meanwhile, a ‘box-ing indaba’ is scheduled to take place atthe Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone14 on April 6 (see nextweek’s Sedibeng SterSport for more in-formation).
