In African custom it is a known fact thatan elder does not become friends with chil-dren, as when they get ‘used’ to him or herthey are going to be disrespectful. This wasproven last week with what transpired inparliament where a young man pointed fin-gers at an oldman demanding answers. Theyoung man was not happy with the way the
elder was answering questions on when andhow he was going to pay back part of the mo-ney spent on upgrades to his private residence. The fact of the matter is that the young mansaw nothing wrong with his actions as he andthe old man were once ‘birds of a feather thatflew together. South Africa is a democraticcountry. Do you get my point?
One of the basic lessons of our childhooddays is ‘respect your elders.’ “These thingsof points of order are the ones that you arehiding behind,” the youngster said. It is nowthe young man talking to elders the way helikes; it is him now doing the lecturing. Heis downright disrespectful. Since the appoint-
ment of this youngman into parliament, it (theparliament) has been turned into a circus, pro-ving my point that once you become friendswith people younger than you, particularly ina serious working environment such as poli-tics things will eventually reach explosionpoint. It is however quite reassuring that ex-traordinary measures have been taken to pre-vent the repeat of the chaos that broke out inparliament last week. These are extraordinarymeasures in the event of a repetition of thesituation. We truly cannot have that, whereyoungsters speak out of turn to elders. In ano-ther view one could say that in this instancethe elder is also to blame as the pair was once
‘lovey dovey’ and the youngster will neveragain respect him. In this world, the elderteach the younger. Whatever we learn isfrom them. If you have a sound value sy-stem and morals, if you can instinctivelytell what is wrong and what is right, thankyour elders for teaching you the distinction. The society is made from us; if the baseis shaky the buildings won’t survive. Whe-never you see a strong building, thank thosewho strengthened the foundation. A man isjudged by his character and this is giftedby the elders. So respect is an obvious thingto follow, just think about that.Lerato…

Stonehaven’s Spring Beer Festival – August 30
27 August - 2 September 2014 SEDIBENG STER 9
A little stress in your life is actually good foryou. It wakes up your creativity, fuels yourvitality and keeps your immune system vigi-
lant. The qualifying word is “little”. The pro-blem with any addiction is that the high istransitory and one always needs a bigger high
to experience the rush. Addiction gives a per-son a false sense of control. Deep down theaddict has lost personal power. A stress-ad-dict is looking to feel numb through distracti-on to avoid dealing with the source of unhap-piness and loss of control. Here are some strategies to break the pat-
tern of stress-addiction:- Recognize your stress-addiction; simply
by being aware, you can break the pattern.- Start by being kind to everyone in your
life – strangers included. Observe yourselfbeing kind to everyone. Now, learn to be askind to yourself as you are to a stranger.- Write a kindness journal - with two co-
lumns - where you list the concrete acts ofkindness you do for others and for yourself
every day. Try to keep the lists balanced.- Take walking meditations because sitting
in a lotus position is probably not for you.Put one foot in front of the other and see thatyou are moving forward by relaxing and ab-sorbing the beauty of the scenery.- Take a long hot shower or go to a steam
room/sauna to release the toxins in your body. The heat will relax your muscles, clean outyour pores and release physical tensions. Youare now ready to listen to music, read a book,or enjoy a glass of coolwaterwith a few slicedstrawberries suspended in it.- Awaken your senses instead of numbing
them. Experiment with fragrances, newfoods, new CDs. Take out your camera andstart shooting where your eyes are drawn. Seeif there is a pattern.- Begin a strength-training program.
Strength-training will help you find empo-werment and clarity. This focus will transferinto daily life.
Are you addicted to stress?

SEDIBENG. - Three North West University(NWU) Vaal players hoisted the South Afri-can flag high before they lost 3-0 to Namibiain the final of the Confederation of Universi-ty and Colleges Sports Association (CUC-SA) games held in Zambia from August 16– 22.They are Tumelo Thebe, Morgan Yekani
and Tshepiso Maimane. The three represen-ted South Africa in the competition. They made Sedibeng proud when they
produced five-star performances during thetournament, which came to an end last Fri-day. Tumelo Thebe, the NWU Vaal soccerteam striker, was instrumental when the teambooked their place in the final. He scored three goals in the tournament
and he could have scooped the Top Goal Sco-re of The Tournament Award if he was moreclinical in front of goals. However, Thebe was happy with his over-
all performance, saying the tournament wasa learning experience for him and the SouthAfrican team.He says bringing the silver medals home
was an achievement, taking into considerati-on the standard of the competition. Thebe
says they were up against the best on the con-tinent.Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport on arri-
val, Thebe said he was honoured to be partof the South African team.He believes he learned a lot from the tour-
nament on and off the field:“I’m very proud of my performance and
scoring three goals is something that I willnot forget. I wish this tournament opensdoors for me as far as my football career isconcerned. I think I’m ready for new challen-ges playing in top flight football,” says The-be. Thebe believes he is ready to play in PSLor National First Division League taking intoconsideration his performance in this tourna-ment. His teammates Maimane and Yekaniof theNWUVaal soccer team echoed his sen-timents. They also believe that Thebe hasthe potential to become a big name in SouthAfrican football.

Shooting From The Hip doesn’t understandwhy some football administrators and offici-als are still in football. I thought they werelong dead and buried but I was wrong. Thequestion is: what are they still doing in ourfootball, because their time has expired. Ordo they want to make sure that our footballis ‘dead’ as well?To them football is all about elections and
positions; hence, they suspend each other, es-pecially thosewho are a threat to them. Yours
truly Shooting From The Hip has been appro-ached by some officials to stand for either theSafa Sedibeng Presidency or Emfuleni LocalFootball Association chairmanship, but I ma-de it clear to them that I am not interested.”There are better things Shooting From The
Hip can do than fight grown men with egos. Thanks but no thanks! The interest of Shoo-ting From The Hip is to serve the develop-ment of football, not positions. To put itbluntly, Shooting from the Hip has no interestin the abovementioned positions – they arenot my dream, to say the least. If ShootingFrom The Hip agrees to take one of these po-sitions, it would be like selling my soul forpower and status.
The problem with local football admini-strators is that they can ‘make you fail’ likethey did with others before them. The truthof the matter is that football has become a‘tender’ to some people.Respect for this beautiful game has gone
and people are only interested in enrichingthemselves at the expense of our young athle-tes.It hurts when Shooting From The Hip re-
calls how this region used to respect footballadministrators in the past. Those were menand womenwho had vision as far as the deve-lopment of football is concerned. However, recently, football administrators
are only concerned with their pockets and say
to HELL with the development of foot-ball. So, ladies and gentlemen, ShootingFrom The Hip is not interested in beingSafa Sedibeng President or ELFA chair-man. To me, football is not a matter oflife and death. NO! Football is the beauti-ful game that unifies all the races - black, white, Indian, coloured and others. As things stand now, no-one knows
what is happening as far as football isconcerned in this region except that peo-ple are fighting for positions. There is notalk about a professional team in this regi-on, as no-one has the courage to initiatethe process. They can only talk, talk andtalk, with no action.
Thanks but NO thanks!

cer-lovers to come in big numbers to witnessthe mother of all battles as both teams are ea-ger to regain their Absa Premier Soccer Lea-gue status. This encounter promises fireworks, with
