I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend and enjoyed the sunshine.

As you will be aware the lockdown is to continue on for some time. I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

I am sending some suggested work for the week ahead. Please don’t feel under pressure to complete it. There is no obligation to finish it all, pick and choose what suits you and your current family life/situation.

Please contact me if you have any questions or queries. If you wish to share some of your child’s work with me, please send it via email to [email protected]

Kind regards,Maria Rynne

My Home Recap from last week:

■ Children need to understand that home is where you live and that there are many different types of homes. Discuss with children why people need homes — shelter, safety, sleep, comfort. ■ Describe and name areas, inside and outside the home, and what each is used for: • kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room etc. garage, shed, garden etc. ■ Talk about different furniture and fittings in different rooms. ■ Using a doll’s house, get the children to arrange the furniture and people in it. Ask the children why they put the things in the places they have chosen. ■ Discuss the different types of homes the children live in or have lived in on holidays. Are there any other types of homes in the local area?

Additional Activity: Count the windows, doors and chimneys in your house. Build your house from lego or blocks. Use recycled material to build a house. Read the story of The Three little pigs and discuss the

different houses in the book. With an adult, find a magazine and cut out pictures of

items associated with a house, and make a collage. Complete the activity sheet at the end of the pages:

Art Make a House Craft: You need:

Plain Printer Paper Pencil Markers Scissors Crayons

Start by folding a piece of paper in half. Unfold, then fold in each end to the centre line as shown below.

With the two pieces folded to the centre, take scissors and cut the roof of the house by trimming off two small triangles off each side.

On the front of the house add windows and a door. Use scissors to cut the door and windows so they fold open. Draw in pencil first so they can erase if need be. Ideas: Add small half circles to the roof, window coverings, grass, dog and tree to the front of our house. You can draw yourself in the front door and the rest of your family inside. Example below: Colour and Decorate.

Wednesday 6th MayExplanation for number wheels:

These are number wheels. Each number wheel has three circles. The centre circle, the second circle and the third circle:

In the first wheel the centre number is 0, going clockwise and starting at the top right, 0 is added to 3 , (0+3=3) therefore 3 goes in the blank box in the third circle. The next number is 4, so 0 is added to 4 (0+4=4) therefore 4 goes in the blank box in the third circle.

Page 21: Senior Infants Ballyea NSballyeaschool.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Suggeste… · Web view2020/05/08  · Please find the active homework timetable and explanation sheet in the

In the second wheel the centre number is 1, going clockwise and starting at the top right, 1 is added to 3, (1+3=4) therefore 4 goes in the blank box in the third circle. The next number is 4, so 1 is added to 4 (1+4=5) therefore 5 goes in the blank box in the third circle.

And continue as above for the next two number wheels.
