Dear Friends,

Our beloved Catholic Church has been bruised and battered these last few weeks with the release of the Pennsylvania

Grand Jury Report, the sordid details of Theodore Cardinal McCarrick’s behavior, and other news of terrible failures of

some of our leaders. It is not an easy time to be a Catholic; times like this remind us that our faith is in the Lord Jesus

and not fallible human beings.

In the midst of this trying time, Archbishop Sartain invites us—even as we continue to work for safety, healing, and

accountability—to pray together as God’s people in Western Washington a novena prayer to Mary, Mother of the

Church. I have included this prayer in today’s bulletin. A limited number of novena prayer cards will also be available at

the back of our Valley churches. Though many of us will pray this prayer at home or in our own personal prayer times, I

also ask that we conclude all of our Sunday and weekday Valley Masses with this prayer from October 4-14.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Tom

NOVENA PRAYER TO MARY,

MOTHER OF THE CHURCH

Mary, Mother of the Church, we stand before you

shaken by the scandal and division

in the Church that we love.

We pray for victims of abuse, whose trust was

betrayed and whose innocence was shattered

by members of the clergy.

We pray for those who suffering was ignored and for

those who were silenced or disbelieved.

We pray for Church leaders,

that by putting the needs of the vulnerable first,

by acting with transpaarency,

and by always holding themselves

accountable to God and to the People of God

they may regain the trust that has been broken.

We pray for ourselves,

that the darkness and confusion we feel

may give way to light.

May we find the way to justice, unity, healing,

and hope, through your Son, Jesus, our Lord.

Amen.

Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for us.

Mary, comfort of the troubled, pray for us.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

September 30, 2018 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.” (MARK 9:41)

Does your life reflect the life of Jesus? Remember, we were made in His image. We tend to forget this. When others see you, do they see the face of Jesus? When you look at others, do you see the face of Jesus in them?

Recuerde, fuimos hechos a Su imagen.

P. Tom

Brothers and sisters: If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in

the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same

love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather,

humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests,

but also for those of others. Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus. Phil 2:1

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time St James warns in today's second reading that those who hoard their wealth and live only for

themselves will be condemned. But in the Gospel, Jesus assures us that all who give of

themselves for His sake will be rewarded.

October is Respect Life Month!! Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life. Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain, and suffering. Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living. Grant us the humility to

accept help when we are in need, and teach us to be merciful to all.Through our words and actions, may others encounter the outstretched hands of Your mercy. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

Children’s Liturgy of the World The Children’s Liturgy of the Word will begin again this Sunday,

September 30th, at the 11:15 am Mass. We are currently in need of adults who would be willing to help the instructor one Sunday a

month during the readings and homily. Please contact the office if you are willing to assist with this ministry.
