September 8, 2019 (23rd in Ordinary Time) Jesus tells the crowd that only those who renounce all of their possessions can be His disciples. Is He truly asking us to give up everything? Perhaps instead He is trying to help us see that everything we think we own is really a gift from God. Good stewards know that and strive to use those gifts accountably.

Vincent de Paul states: “Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice…the Society makes no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.” Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Faith For the Future
There is nothing more beautiful than our Catholic Faith. It’s not always easy to know how to pass it on though. Chances are that we all know people who grew up Catholic as kids but at some point made the decision to walk away. Unfortunately many Catholic parents share stories of heartbreak because their children stopped practicing after they went off to college or moved out of the house. But there are reasons to have HOPE! You are invited to come hear an encouraging and practical talk that offers advice on how to raise and keep your kids Catholic. This talk, “Faith for the Future” will be given by Jen Sagel, who in addition to being Coordinator of Parish Evangelization is a wife and mother of four. Come hear this potentially life-changing talk at St.
Patrick Church in Dixon at 7pm on Wednesday, Sept. 11th.
2019 Banquet October 17th Gianna`s House PRC annual fundraising banquet will be held at The Elks Club in Dixon on Thursday, October 17th from 6-8pm. The speaker will be
Assistant Deputy Chief Andre Brass of the Rockford Police Department. He will share his personal experience of being a pro-life Catholic in a secular work force. If you would like to be a Table Host/Hostess or attend this event please , contact Colleen Petrosky at (815) 213-0290/email [email protected]

National Day of Prayer for Peace in
Our Communities
PRAYER FOR PEACE IN OUR
COMMUNITIES Let us pray . . . O Lord our God, in
your mercy and kindness, no thought
of ours is left unnoticed, no desire or
concern ignored. You have proven
that blessings abound when we fall on
our knees in prayer, and so we turn to
you in our hour of need. Surrounded by violence and cries
for justice, we hear your voice telling us what is required . . .
“Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk
humbly with your God” (Mi 6:8). Fill us with your mercy so
that we, in turn, may be merciful to others. Strip away
pride, suspicion, and racism so that we may seek peace and
justice in our communities. Strengthen our hearts so that
they beat only to the rhythm of your holy will. Flood our
path with your light as we walk humbly toward a future
filled with encounter and unity. Be with us, O Lord, in our
efforts, for only by the prompting of your grace can we
progress toward virtue. We ask this through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen. Copyright © 2016, Therese Wilson-Favors. All rights reserved. Used with permission. Scripture quote taken from the New

R. C. I. A Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults (RCIA) is the process in
which adults become full
participating members of the Catholic Church.
Participants, known as catechumens go through a process
of studying the Gospel, nurturing their relationship with
God, becoming familiar with the Catholic teachings and
practices, professing their faith in Jesus and the Church,
and receiving the sacraments of initiation: Baptism,
Communion, and Confirmation. Who can join? 18 years
and older. The Church extends an invitation to all who
wish to become members of the Catholic faith. Those
who go through the RCIA process fall under one of the
following categories:
■ Someone who is of another faith and wishes to
convert to Catholicism. ■ Someone who was baptized in another Christian
denomination and wishes to become a member
of the Catholic faith ■ Someone who was baptized in the Catholic
Church, but never received the sacraments of First
Holy Communion and Confirmation

Dearest Brothers and Sisters,
HAPPY FAMILY WEEK!!!!! This is going to be a
great opportunity to connect deeper with your family and
your faith! As I mentioned last week, I really encourage
everyone to put down phones, devices, and to turn off the
T.V. and internet and really strive to connect with those
around you – people are more fun than technology! I really
hope that you'll enjoy the week. I'm excited for it all but
especially for Color Wars, Prayer and Praise, Jen Sagel's talk,
and the long awaited beginning of our "That Man is You"
Men's Group!
I told you last week that I’d give you some questions to
discuss and talk about with the members of your family
during Tuesday Night’s Family Dinner at home.
SO HERE ARE THE DINNER REFLECTION QUESTIONS
FOR TUESDAY NIGHT:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What is something you’ve done recently that
brought you a lot of joy?
- What are your favorite memories from your child
hood?
- What is your favorite family tradition?
- What are the qualities that you have that makes you
a good friend? What areas would you like to work on?
- What is something that you’d like to do soon as a
family?
- What is one thing that you are grateful for?
- What is one thing that you couldn’t live without?
- What is your favorite way to communicate with
God? What is your favorite way to pray?
- What is your favorite thing about being a member of
St. Patrick’s Church?
- How do you hope to deepen your faith and rela
tionship with God in the coming days and weeks?
On a different note, but one that has everything to do with
connecting with family – because God has brought us into
His family through adoption, by now you’ve probably
noticed that the Adoration Time-Slot sign-up boards that we
had out last year are out again. Last year we were signing
up based on an idea, but this year it is reality! The beautiful
thing is that by signing up (in reality) you will have an
opportunity to weekly experience the reality that Jesus
Christ loves us so much that He not only came to redeem us
in the past, but He desires to be present with us every
moment of every day in our present time through the
Eucharist. Mother Teresa said that “When you look at the
crucifix you see how much Jesus loved you then and when
you look at the Eucharist you see how much Jesus loves you
now.” The truth of the matter is that we cannot even begin
to fathom the love of God for us, but I’ll say that by
spending a weekly hour before Him will certainly help you
to understand the depth of His love more and more and
more! I’d love to invite you to sign up for an hour – I’ll also
add that you can come and adore the Lord even at times
you’re not signed up for as well. In order to have adoration
run perpetually which is our goal, we’ll need to have 24/7
coverage, so that’s 168 slots and hours to fill. I truly believe
that we can make this happen, especially with your
help!!! SO please consider signing up for an hour.
God Bless,
Fr. Romke
Reflection Questions for the week of 9-8-2019:
Sunday: Do I ever feel like I’m more spiritual than religious? What can I do to deepen my appreciation for the Church that Jesus founded by the shedding of His blood?
Monday: In my life, what have I been willing to let get in the way of my relationship with God? Are there things that hold the center place in my life that make it so that Jesus cannot reside there?
Tuesday: Do I believe that my sufferings in life can have purpose? Can I at least admit that if there was a purpose to them that they would be easier to bear? Can I pray and ask Jesus to help me to see and believe that life can come from the cross?
Wednesday: Am I willing to lay aside my own wants and desires in order to follow Christ and to receive the blessings and grace of living in union with Him?
Thursday: Do I feel like “I’m good with God” because I’ve decided on the terms that I want to follow, or do I need to change some things in my life in order to live within Jesus’
conditions of discipleship?
Friday: Can I ask Jesus for help and guidance in how to unite my own crosses to his so that together we can bridge the gap between heaven and earth?
Saturday: Can I reach out to God in prayer and commit to making Him the center of my life?
Your presence is needed to stand up for life! The annual Life
Chain will be Sunday, October 6, from 2-3 p.m. at John Dixon
Park. Make plans now to be a voice for the unborn whose life
must be respected and valued.
