Setting Up Kindling This document will guide you through the initial setup and customization of your Kindling. It will review each choice and explain the various options available to you. For all of the following settings, preferences can and should be communicated to Kindling before launch.

Initial setup • What subdomain (____.kindlingapp.com) do you want? (maximum 14

characters, letters and numbers only) • If you are using authentication integration, such as SAML, LDAP, Active

Directory, or a custom SSO solution, you should choose one user to have a native Kindling login in case of service disruption with your authentication service.

• Are there any tags you would like preloaded into your account? Tags will be recommended for Ideas and as possible Interests for your users.

• If you would like your moderators and administrators to be shown a custom support email address within the app, let us know.

• Some email setups may require you to add [email protected] to your organization’s email whitelist to ensure that all emails from Kindling arrive for your employees.

Initial setup deliverables: 1. Subdomain (____.kindlingapp.com). Maximum 14 characters,

letters and numbers only 2. [optional] Fallback login 3. [optional] Tags 4. [optional] Custom support email address 5. [optional] Add [email protected] to your email whitelist

Logos and Colors Kindling supports adding your organization's logo and colors, so that your innovation program feels more tightly integrated with your company brand.

Logos

Kindling displays an organization’s logo in two places: on the login screen and in the upper-left corner of all pages. Some examples of login logos:

If you do not provide a custom logo we will use the Kindling logo. Some organizations opt to just use their company logo; others use a special logo designed for their innovation program.

Here are some examples of what the logo will look like in the upper left screen:

Login Background

Kindling supports a background image for the login screen. An example:

This image will be cropped either vertically or horizontally depending on the size of the browser used to view Kindling, so it should be somewhat abstract or look pleasant at a number of different aspect ratios.

Image Deliverables: 1. A large version of your logo, 500x200 transparent PNG. It

should be vertically and horizontally centered. It should also be slightly padded so as not to completely fill the 500x200 bounding box.

2. A smaller version of your logo, 400x90 transparent PNG. It’s a good idea to left align your logo inside of those dimensions.

3. [optional] A login background image, minimum 1200x800

• The Campaign color sets the color for Campaign headers and announcements.

• The button color changes the color of the login button, the Create button in the header, and other primary actions such as “Contribute Idea” on the Idea create form.

Landing Page for New Users To support educating new users on your innovation efforts, Kindling can redirect new users to a particular page after they’ve activated their accounts. Participants may be directed to any Post, Campaign or Category. A Kindling Post can welcome new users to Kindling and introduce the goals of your innovation program, while linking to a Category or Campaign can highlight a hot topic of discussion or important area of focus.

Landing page for new users:

1. [optional] Name of Category, Campaign or Post to direct new users to

In-App Settings Once your organization's Kindling has been set up, you can change most of Kindling's options under the Manage... Application Settings menu.

• The default is “Email Address / Username”. • Login Password Override changes the label on the password field of the

login screen. • The default is “Password”. • Custom Login Message adds a message beneath the login form.

If your account is using an integrated authentication, such as Active Directory or LDAP, custom login labels can help remind users what account they should use to login. SAML accounts have their own separate login procedure.

Kindling supports: • English (US, UK, AU, CA, NZ) • French (CA) • German (DE) • Swedish (SE) • Dutch (NL) • Spanish (VE) • Portuguese (BR, PT)

Custom States

By default, Kindling has five states to track the progress of Ideas: Open, Paused, Approved, Declined, and Completed. In addition to these default States, your organization can decide to create custom States to more fully represent their organization’s own workflow. Some examples of this might include “Budget Review” or “Legal Review.” You may also hide Kindling’s built-in states, using your custom workflow instead.

State Decisions: 1. [optional] Any desired custom states

Yammer

Kindling supports integration with Yammer. Once Yammer is turned on, the following actions take place:

• Any Idea created in a Category that all users have access to is automatically posted to Yammer by the special “Kindling User”.

• Any Moderator can send an Idea in a Category that not all users have access to by clicking the “Send To Yammer” button beneath the voting buttons on the right side of the page. It will be posted to Yammer the same way all other Ideas are.

• Any tags on an Idea are added to the Yammer post as “topics”. • Any Idea that has a Yammer counterpart will display the current number

of “Likes” and Comments on that Idea in Yammer, as well as a link to the Idea in Yammer.

Additionally, as long as a user shares the same email address between their Yammer account and their Kindling account, their Kindling Skills and Interests will be filled in from their already-existing Expertise and Interests in Yammer. They do not need to take any action for this to occur, as long as Yammer is turned on for the entire Kindling instance.

Kindling also supports Google Translation of content in accounts that have enabled multi-lingual. Entering a Google API key after checking the "Enable content auto-translation" box will activate this feature for all users, allowing them to translate Ideas, Posts and the related commentary into the language of their chosen user interface.
