Overview of recent projects:

• Contracting to the facilities management division of Johnson Controls International Inc. we have carried out many projects to renovate offices and other buildings occupied by the UK’s largest pharmaceutical company. This includes their global headquarters and regional training centres.

• Bloomberg (Media) Limited: we have carried out office renovations in both the UK and overseas.

• We also carry out refurbishment and repair works for the retailer Tesco PLC and Savills PLC, the real estate services provider.

Case studies

The following case studies focus on the works completed for the pharmaceutical client, which has a strict policy of not being named in circulated supplier marketing, but we are able to discuss the projects face to face. We completed projects at their UK office locations around London including Brentford (headquarters), Stockley Park, Weybridge and Maidenhead.

offiCe partitioning and refurbiShmentShip Shape undertake a wide variety of office partitioning/relocating and reconfiguration works, including in-house installation of glass screens, Celestra partitioning, suspended ceiling works and several specialist finishes including magnetic wall papering, manifestations/signage, carpeting and vinyl services, lighting, VAV works etc. We work very closely with our preferred furniture specialist which allows us to offer a full turn-key service on any office redesign/relocation/refurbishment project of any scale.

Spotlight CaSe StudyJohnson Controls InternationalReplacement of engineered wood flooring to office restaurant area (approximately 100m2) at the global headquarters

Situation

This heavy footfall wooden flooring was in a state of disrepair and presented a trip hazard to seating area users. Prior to removal, there were two planters located on the flooring which leaked significantly, causing the wooden flooring to become damaged. The supportive packing underneath the floorboards was found to be inadequate to support the footfall and restaurant furniture resulting in a health and safety hazard.

Objective

Remove existing 115m2 engineered board from floor and plant pots and dispose of. Construct dust proof enclosure to house the project workshop. Supply and install approximately 1,500 wedge packers bonded to slab to support existing 50x25mm battens. Supply and fit 115m2 of new beech effect engineered board, form removable access hatch in engineered board over new client supplied floor socket.

Work completed

• The client brief stated that the works had to be carried out over two weekends (including overnight) and the area maintained in use during the weekdays between period of works.

• Full protection works and a project workshop marquee was erected to minimise dust spread. Vacuums and dust collecting attachments were used on all plant and machinery.

• Temporary timber joint strip was utilised to prevent trip hazards between new and existing wood floors at the end of the first weekend so the restaurant could be used safely.

• Extensive levelling and strengthening of sub floor timber battens and supports was carried out.

Result Completed successfully and safely within the challenging timescales.

Summary of other projeCtSVideo TeleConference (VTC) room, AV fit and refurbishment

The Ship Shape in house AV team is very experienced in audio visual (AV) and data requirements with team members who have been responsible for VTC facilities within multinational organisations. With office locations in over 100 countries, this client is an extensive user of VTC.

Work completed

• Supply and fit of AV screens for VTC room, fit reinforcing floor plates.

• Erection of new MF stud wall lined with WBP ply and Soundbloc plasterboard with powder coated shadow gap beads with plaster skim finish.

• Decorations to all new and existing plastered surfaces, relocation of wall mounted acoustic boards and installation and varnishing of new solid beech skirting to match existing.

Bicycle dock and external repair works

Work completed

• Formation of external bicycle dock port.

• Ongoing external paving and tarmac damage repairs and upgrades including line marking as required.

• Ramp repairs: Removal of existing concrete ramp, full waterproofing works and recasting of ramp using specialist repair mortars and top surface hardeners with non-slip surface coatings.

Multi-storey car park stairwell refurbishment

Work completed

• Complete refurbishment of three stairwells.

• Works included extensive cleaning of all stairwell areas that had been converted from long term external areas into interior spaces by adding a glazed roof-light system over each stairwell.

• All existing tarmac stair treads were carefully removed and replaced with bespoke cut fibreglass non-slip treads with high visibility nosing details, fixed with specialist adhesive compounds compatible with the existing under floor heating system.

• All metal stair components were prepared, primed and top coated with specialist metal paints.

• Replacement of worn and damaged tiled landing areas as required.

• Removal and installation of two bespoke steel door sets complete with new hardware and ironmongery.
