Dear Friends in
Chr i st ,
Greetings in
the
name of our Lord an d Savior
Jesus
Chr i st .
With the
holidays over
we
c an b eg in
to g e t down to some work
t h a t has
needed
to
be
done
for
a
very
long
time.
As
many
of
you
know
that
Dora s
Father
pass
ed away in June of 1985. We hav e been living
with
him since 1980.
After
her
mother
passed away in
1978
Dora s F at he r g o t
a
yard man to
do
the
work around
th e
place. Well when we moved
in
the
man
j u s t up and quit on us one day. We
to
this
day do not knowwhy but
that le f t th e
work up to
us,
which was shared
by
the
boys and
I
Well when he became sick we
just l e t
th e yard go. We f e l t
that many
times we were in
the jungles of Africa.
We
just
did no t
have
the
t i m e
to d o s o with t ha t a n d then th e cons t ruc t ion o f a s e w e r l i n e in th e
area made
i t
a
task
that was going to take quite a b it of time.
Well
with
the
help
of my
two
sons,
Stephen and
John,
and a young man from
the church,
Paul Alo, two lawn mowers and two weed eaters, we have succeeded in
getting
the
place
to look
like
i t
once was. The Lord ha s
given
us
g re at s tr en g th
to
be
able
to
carry
out these tasks for Him I t also
gives
us an opportunity to
become
closer
as
Christians.
My
son
Stej^en
gave up
four
days
of
his
vacation
to help and John \dio
could have
ha d
other plans as
he did
not
have
school for
two
of
those days
willing
helped. I
j u s t
wished now that I had
taken
the
proverbial before
an d
a f te r pictur es. We
hauled
about 15 loads to the local
d i ^ . We once
again are thankful to the
UTTR S
as
they
lent us their
pickup
truck to haul off
a ll
t he le av es and brush and branches to the dump.
In th e past
month we have
ha d many
come and
visi t the services. We
hope
that
they w ill return to the
services.
To those of you who
are
no t
familiar
with
Hawaii
i t
sort
of
reminds you
of
Ephesus in t he B ib le . Every r el ig io n t ha t
is
or
ev er h as been is
here
and people do not relate to the gospel
as
r eadily
as
some do in
o t he r c o un t ri es .
The
o th er n ig ht
Bro.
L u ttr e ll
and I were
counting
j u s t th e
di f ferent churches
in
th e a r e a o f
the Ma ili
C h r i s t i a n
Church
and
with
in
a two
mile
radius
we came up
with
fifteen 15) different
churches.
So you
can see
why
i t i s e ss en ti al t ha t
we
tr y an d
make
the b e s t o f our e f f o r t s here
in the 50th State. We covet your
prayers
for
ou r work here and we know that
with these prayers we are going to win the battle against Satan to confuse the
people o f Hawaii.
Our Bible Club seems
to
be doing very
well. We
are averaging about 5
to
7 each
week and we
are hoping that
when these young
p eo pl e b eg in to
realize what
they
a r e really learning t h a t
they
w i l l
become
gr eat
ambassadors
fo r
Chr ist.

Dear Friends in
Christ
Greetings in
th e name of our S av io r J es us Christ.
We
first
want to apologize for not writing fo r the past
two
months.
Our typ^
writer was down in the shop and i t has been quite a deal trying to get things
done around
here
and
also
to
le t
you
fine
people
know
about our work. But
we
-are
back
in business
and hope
to
keep you informed as
to how
t he L or d s
Work
here
in
Hawaii
is
doing.
Our attendance has been holding around 10 to 15 with a high of 21 this pas month
Several new
folk
have come to
visit
and we hope that they
will
come into the
fold
h e r e t th e M a i l i
C h r i s t i a n
Church.
Just as
we
were ready to start service one
Sunday
evening a ca r pulled into the
church parking lot. I was beginning to pick out th e church hymns for the evening
service and so Bro. Charles Luttrell went to
talk
to
the young fellow idio got out
of th e
car.
Many times folk are just lost and want to know d irecti on s t o a
cer
tain place.
And
so I continued to pick out the hymns and the next thing we knew
that
the
young
fellow
was
looking for a church to worship.
Upon
being invited
in
we ha d a
gr eat discussion
aft er
the
service and found
out
that
he
and
h is
wife
were s^rching and someone had 4 nformed
that that
they should contact the
Church
of Christ or Christian Church as they were the
closest
to the Scriptures. The
young man is
in
th e service and he
really
is searching. They have three children
all
girls and she thinks that she
is
expecting again.
We
would ask that
you
pray fo r
this young
couple as they have had some problems and he
i s
very sincere
at
trying to make a go of his marriage and family life. They need our prayer
support and pray
that we may
be able
to se e
them
in th e
fellowship
of
th e Maili
Christian
Church
while here
in
Hawaii
in
the service of
their
country.
On a different note we
would
ask that
a ll
of you be in prayer for BRO
H RLES
LUTTRELL
He
has had
some
very bad breathing problems over the
past

Our Sunday evening service has been very good. We are averaging about 10 and we
are
using
filmstrips
and discussion
after.
We have
just
finished a series on
JOSEPH and currently we
are
on a series on MOSES. I t has been a
time
of discovery
for many of
us
as just the

these

that
you may have either
forgotten or never knew at

There is a

Also our Wednesday Evening Service is going along
very
well.

The Bible Club that we started in November
of
last year continues to be a source
of
excitment
to us.
Mrs. Luttrell does an
excellent
job with th e children and
though sometimes we may
only have
a few and then some more we get
excited

and we would that you
also
pray
for
them. They have no back
ground whatsoever in the church and^ they seem to realTy
take
hold a t^ what is
being told to them. At
present
we are in the Gospel of John and these young peo

learning about th e Gospel of Love.
We
hope that
through our love
for
them
they
will

Once again we want to say a big

that
we can continue to be worthy
of
that support. We are

would
ask that
i f
you
personally
or your church or
a

would like
to support us
we would
be very
thankful. God has
blessed us and we do need the support very much. I f we do not

the necessary
funds i t looks' l ike that I wil l have
to
go
back
to work and we will not be able
to do the th ings that we

Dear Friends i n Chr is t
Greetings
and
aloha
in
the
name
of
out ord
and
Master Jesus Christ.
Dora and I
arrived
in Hawaii on September 2, 1964
to
begin work with
the
Maile Church of
Christ,
which is also Dora s
home-church.
Stephen
Edward,
our son,
was born
shortly after out arrival
in the
islands
(January
12
1965 .
The
attendance
during our first
month
with the
Maile
work
numbered
between 25
- 30 each Lord's day, one Sunday it was down to 15. There
were only 6 Sunday-school classes at this time; many were children
with
very
few
young
people
and
adults. Today, the average attendance
is around 70;
tl^ere
ate still
many
children, but there is also an increase
in the
youth group and among
the adults. There are now
Sunday-
school classes, 8 adult teachers and 3 high school juniors teaching.
As
on
many fields
of service in the Lord,
there are
always discouraging
and joyous incidents, thus
it is no different in Hawaii.
The
need of
the
Lord
is great,
yet man neglects to
seek this spiritual need
because he
does not care; the Lord's
Day
is a pleaseue day because
man
has
worked all during the week and feels he needs to
spend
this day
for
himself.
How
sad and disheartening it is to see even the members of
God's church feel this
way,
caring only for themselves and not being
concerned with the spiritual
growth
of the church in the community.
Our part in
the
Maile
work
is minor compared
to
the
work
of the Holy
Spirit guiding
dedicated Christians
who labor
so faithfully with
concern
and love for lost souls. Many times we have asked fellow-Christians
on
the
Mainland to pray with us for the needs of the church at Maile;
truly
the Lord has
answered
these
prayers
as He sent
families
to help
in the work. We know we will lose
these
families
because
they are
military
and
will
sooner or later be transferred, but
we
trust the
Lord
will send
others
to fill
their
places.
Please
continue to pray for the work of the Lord in Hawaii as the gospel
of Jesus Christ is
needed
in the lives of those
who
are here.
May
God's
blessings be upon all who labor in His service daily.
