Guidelines for Setting Frequency Band for Sierra 881 UMTS PCMCIA

1. Refer to Device Manager

2. Go to Start(Control Panel(System. Click on Hardware tab.

3. Select Device Manager.

4. Start(All Programs(Accessories(Communications(Hyperterminal

5. Enter name & select icon for connection you are creating. Press OK when done.

6. From drop down menu in Connect using: select the AT port for the Sierra 881. Select OK.

7. Make sure Port Settings match those shown below; then select OK.

8. Once the terminal window is visible, enter E and press Enter/Return key on the keyboard. This enables the Echo key feature.9. Enter AT!ENTERCND=A710 10. You can now proceed in entering frequency band set/verify commands:

For setting card to WCDMA 850MHz, enter AT!GBAND=04000000

For setting card to WCDMA 1900MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00800000

For setting card to WCDMA 2100MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00400000

For setting card to GSM 850MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00080000

For setting card to GSM 900MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00000300 For setting card to GSM 1800MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00000080

For setting card to GSM 1900MHz, enter AT!GBAND=00200000

For setting card to automatic mode, enter AT!GBAND=3FFFFFFF11. To check which band is set, enter AT!GBAND?

If the response is not what you expect, enter the command AT!GBAND? again. In the example below, the 881 card was previously set to 850MHz prior to opening HyperTerminal. The commands were then sent to set the card to 1900MHz band. The first time AT!GBAND? command was sent, the response was still 850MHz. The second time AT!GBAND? was sent, the response was 1900MHz.

12. To set the HSDPA category to CAT 8 send the following command: AT!HSDCAT=8

13. When done with command, disconnect from AT port by clicking on disconnect button:

14. Close HyperTerminal program by going to File(Exit.
