Sanctification: Leigh Nell’s story

I thought I would share with you: I grew up with

religion but never really knew too much about it. I have been praying for a long time but had

no real relationship with God.

I recently joined a cell group to do Alpha after my parents both died in my arms three months

apart. I had lost my job; I was married to an absolute ‘joller’ and womaniser whom I stayed

with for 14 years. I did not know he was also using drugs; he offered no support and slept with

nine women that I know of and disappeared every weekend. I was divorced, jobless and had

lost my folks who were strong Christians. I had

two little girls to support and no friends. I partied at pubs looking for love.

Long story short, I prayed and God sent me the

most amazing man. He loves animals and my girls – kind, good natured and generous. I now

have a very good well-paying job which I am enjoying and it is close to home. After my girls

got bigger I started taking girls to Sunday school and Holiday Club and going to church more often

and wanting them to grow up in a religious environment.

I felt the need to get baptised and after kids’

Holiday Club, a DVD was shown of a lady who

lost her folks a few months apart and did the Alpha Course and got baptised. I approached the

church to find out more. I was a bit embarrassed and wanted to do it privately but after the service

on Sunday I felt so differently: I felt so proud about it and told everyone.

But I would say getting more involved was the

key and not just attending a few services leaving afterwards and not knowing anyone in the

church. Robyn gave me a Bible which I read a bit of and really the power of prayer made me that I

needed to get baptised. I think my girls are another reason for growing in my faith and just

realising how blessed I am to have them and the

strong desire to provide for them as the only source they have to look to.

My sanctification and growth has been a slow but

amazing process.
