CourseInformation:
DescriptionThiscourseanalyzestheimpactofsocietyonsexandsexuality.Emphasisisoninterpersonalrelationships
andfactualinformationnecessarytoenablestudentstounderstandbettertheirownsexuality.Topicsincludingsex
roles,sexualinteraction,sexualphysiology,andpublicissuesrelatedtosexarediscussedutilizingcontemporary
researchandculturaldefinitions.
MethodologyStudentsarerequiredtocompletereadings,supplementalactivities,quizzes&exams,groupprojects,
participateindiscussions,andviewvariousmultimedia.
Prerequisite SOC101recommended.
Objectives
Exploretherelationshipsbetween/amongsexuality,gender,andinterpersonalrelationships. Providebasicinformationnecessaryforacompleteunderstandingofthesocialinfluencesonsexandsexuality. Provideinformationnecessarytoassistindividualsinclarifyingtheirownvalues. Providetheinformationandskillsnecessaryfordecision-makingonissuesthatinvolvesexandsexuality. Applysociologicalreasoningtothesexualaspectofhumanlife. Analyzetheculturalandhistoricalinfluencesonsexuality. Applycriticalthinkingtoanalyzecurrentpopularculture.
StudentInvolvementHoursSexuality&Sociologyarebothveryrichcontentareas,asistheintersectionofthetwo.
Youmustallocatesufficienttimeforreading,studying,&completingassignedactivities,likelyaround3-9hours/week.
