Commodore’s Comments

It appears that we have officially swung into the Holiday Season. Thanksgiving is a distant memory and Christmas is on its way! If you haven’t been down to the Club lately, the Christmas decorations are up and it is beautiful as always. The decorating crew of, Mary Jo Haag, Bill Wheatley, Kathy Manna, John Nowicki, Michele Bar-clay, and John Erickson, worked their Chr istmas magic. Trim-A-Tree was an astonishing event with great hors d'oeuvres and a fine band – thanks to Hammered Brass for the great music! I want to thank all the attendees who brought ornaments. Especially, our 2016 winning ornament entries; 1st place – Cheryl Rybka, 2nd place –Tom Billingsley, and 3rd place –Jon Nowicki. We were fortunate to share the evening with members from several local yacht clubs – 5th Street Yacht Club, Harbor Lite Yacht Club, and South Shore Yacht Club. I hope everyone had a great time. I would like to take a moment and thank the SMYC Committee Chairs, Board, and Officers for another outstanding year. There is always a great deal of activity keeping the Club moving in the right direction. This is a very dedicated group of Members and I appreciate all their efforts. We are also extremely blessed to have great Members in our Club. I want to thank you for your candor, hospitality, dedication, and just plain old fun! Our Harbor is full with a waiting list and we have some money in the bank! We are going into 2017 on a positive note. I look forward to sharing another season with you as your Commodore. Mark your calendar for our Installation of Officers Dinner on January 21st – details to follow. Finally, Mary Jo and I want to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you at the Club, Jon Haag SMYC Commodore (c) 414-617-3438 (e) [email protected]

Membership Update

South Milwaukee Yacht Club Membership welcomed Gregg & Sherry Rehak as family members at December’s Board meeting. Gregg has known about SMYC for a long time as he grew up on top of the hill. He and his wife have a 28’ Sundancer and hope to put her in the water next summer whenever a spot is available. They currently live in Oak Creek.

Two new Associate members have signed up as well.

Ben Gil and his wife Amy are the new owners of Ace Hardware in South Milwaukee. If you haven’t already visited their Ace, check it out when you have a chance. They currently live in Muskego.

Vicki & Chris Karwacki joined us in early December. Chris is a cousin of Tony & Mary Karwacki and have been here for several parties. They live in South Milwaukee.

Thank you to all who donated to the Toy Barrel for South Milwaukee Human Concerns which we had sitting @ the Club for the past month. At one point, the toy barrel was over-flowing. It was certainly heart-warming to see this kind of generosity from our membership.

Any questions about your membership, please contact me @ 414.418.5971 or [email protected]

Joke of the Month Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. They turn a corner and see a sign that says, “Old Timers Bar – ALL drinks 10 cents”. They look at each other, then go in, thinking this IS too good to be true. The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, “Come on in and let me pour one for you?” “What’ll it be, gentlemen?” There seemed to be a fully-stocked bar so each of the men asked for a martini – except for the old crabby one who wanted a “Blue Yummy”…In short order, the bartender serves up three iced martinis…Shaken not stirred and an ice cold “Blue Yummy” and says “that will be 10 cents each please.” The four men stare at the bartender for a moment then look at each other...they can’t believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis and the “Blue Yummy”, and order another round. Again, three excellent martinis and an ice cold “Blue Yummy” are produced with the bartender again saying “That’s 40 cents, please.” They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity is more than they can stand. They have each had two excellent drinks and so far, they’ve spent less than a dollar. Finally, one of the men says, “How can you afford to serve martinis and ice cold beer as good as these for a dime a piece?” “I am a retired mortgage broker from Caledonia” the bartender said “and always wanted to own a bar.” Last year I hit the Lottery for $25 million and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime (wine, liquor, beer) it’s all the same.” “Wow!!! That is quite the story” says one of the men. The four of them sipped at their martinis and ice cold “Blue Yummy”; and couldn’t help but notice seven other people at the end of the bar who didn’t have drinks in front of them, and hadn’t ordered anything the whole time they were there. The old crabby guy gestures at the seven at the end of the bar without drinks and asks the bartender, “What’s with them?” The bartender says “Oh they’re all old retired farts from South Milwaukee Yacht Club waiting for happy hour when the drinks are half price.”
