Trip to Museum of Tolerance in NYCCAPITAL REGION – The Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library, in conjunction with the Two Towns-One Book program, are sponsoring a bus trip to the Museum of Tolerance in New York City on Sunday, May 6. Join the Friends on a bus trip to NYC to visit The Museum, experience interactive exhibits and a guided tour which will bring to life the themes of the winning book, “The Book Thief”: the power of knowledge, the horror of racism and the human spirit to transcend all. Bus departs the CPH Library parking lot at 7:30am with an 11:30am tour appointment at the museum and leaving the city at 6pm. The cost of the trip including the bus and museum tour is $65 for adults, $63 for students/seniors (62+). Reservations can be made by emailing Rhona at [email protected] or calling 505-1303. Payment is due upon reservation and early booking is advised.
Deceased Veterans Ceremony SARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and the Saratoga County Veterans Service Agency will be holding their monthly deceased Veterans ceremony at 2:30pm on Tuesday, March 20 at the County Building, 40 McMaster Street, Ballston Spa. This month’s honoree is Carl Gimmelli Sr., a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran from the Town of Waterford. Dance On IceSARATOGA – The Saratoga Springs Department of Recreation and Sara-toga Youth Hockey will be hosting a Dance on Ice on Friday, March 16 from 6-9pm. The Dance on Ice will be held at the Weibel Avenue Ice Rink for Grades 5-8, admissions will cost $7. Eclectic Songs will provide the music and there will be limited skate rentals available. Fundraiser for HOPE Animal RescueCAPITAL REGION – HOPE Animal Rescue is selling tickets for Neil Simon’s hilarious comedy “Rumors”. 2012 Greenwich Chili Chow Down ChallengeGREENWICH – The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce is Sponsoring its fi rst “Chili Chow Down Challenge” on Wednesday, March 28 from 5:30-7PM at the Greenwich Elks Lodge on NYS Rte. 40. Area restaurants will be donating their best Chili and decorating their displays. The public is invited to taste each recipe for $1 per tasting cup and vote for their favorite Chili table display. Girls Lacrosse ProgramSARATOGA SPRINGS – The Saratoga Springs Recreation Department Girls Lacrosse program registration is currently ongoing at the Saratoga Springs Recreation Center at 15 Vanderbilt Av-enue (South Side Rec). This is a self-contained program available for girls in 1st thru 6th grade and takes place at the North Side Recreation fi elds. The fi rst practice is on Monday, April 16 at the South Side Rec building and continues through Monday, June 11 at the North Side fi elds. There is no travel or additional fees associated with this program. Girls must have a lacrosse stick and mouthguard; goggles will be provided. What Is Corned Beef? At least once a year people gather to enjoy a dish that is widely associated with Irish culture. Corned beef is a meat that is customarily served alongside potatoes and cabbage. Many people understand the “beef” part of the corned beef name, but do not understand the “corned” part.
Corning refers to pickling meat in brine. Brines, which are composed of salt water, were often used to preserve meats when refrigeration was not available.
According to the Department of Agriculture, the word “corn” comes from Anglo-Saxon times when meat was dry-cured in coarse “corns” of salt. Pellets of salt were rubbed into the meat to preserve it.
Corned beef brines today contain more than just salt. They may have different spices and fl a-vorings to add to the taste of the meat.

North Country ATV Association Receives GrantGREENFIELD CENTER – North Country ATV Association NYTRO of Eastern NY a division of NYTRO Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received an Initiative Grant from Yamaha OHV Access Initiative Grant in the amount of $9,000. The club plans to use these funds toward expanding the riding area, a project the club has been working on for the past 10 years. The grant was awarded as part of Yamaha’s OHV Access Initiative, which is intended to promote safe, responsible riding, along with expanding and opening sustainable riding areas. With this project we hope to be able to create a legal trail system plus make improvements on an existing one. The grant funds will be a big help with the purchasing signs and other materials needed to make this a legal and safe trail system.
