SPLICE CLOSURES FOR FIBER OPTIC CABLES FIBREGUARD®

Following the success achieved with the COYOTE® Splice Closures, PREFORMED LINE PRODUCTS has developed a new splice closure for fibre, the FibreGuard™ Closure, a reliable and competitive solution for data, voice and video transmission.

The FibreGuard™ Closure is designed for all types of cables: unitube, loose fiber, buffer cable, ribbon cables that include ADSS, OPGW and underground, providing users with professional versatility.

The FibreGuard™ Closure will accommodate fusion, mechanical and ribbon splicing. They have also been designed to host different fiber management systems, and in this way they accept SAFeTNET Fiber Management system for single circuit / single element applications; Slide & lock splice trays and high capacity COYOTE splice trays.

The FibreGuard™ closure can be used in many types of installations: towers, wooden or concrete poles, aerial strand, manholes, and directly buried. For all installations the appropriate fittings are available as a separately purchased kit. The FibreGuard™ closure can be used in many applications: Head end, splice box, node, cable termination point, terminal and branch splice application.

The FibreGuard™ Closure shell is an injection-moulded, glass-filled high-density thermoplastic material, proven in both the lab and the field to effectively withstand corrosion, harsh weather and high and low temperature conditions, high impact, compression and freeze-thaw situations.

The closure incorporates two plastic name plates for closure / customer identification purposes.

Installation and re-entry are quick and simple; they do not involve loose elements, which can get lost. A reusable rubber “O”-ring assures the air and water tightness. No special tool is required for re-entry.

The closure is closed manually, turning the dome collar over the base activating the effective locking system that can accommodate a security locking facility. Re-entry is also very quick and simple, taking less than 10 seconds to be re-entered. Air and water tightness is maintained following re-entry.

Cable entry sealing system consists of rubber grommets, single or multiple entries, which are selected according to cable diameter

This sealing technology based on using grommets is highly useful for the new deployed FTTx Networks, demanding splice closures as many cable entries as splices they can host, enabling to easily insert drop cables any time during the operating life of the closure.

An additional advantage for our grommet is that we do not require a high volume to design and produce costume-made solutions to customers’ needs

An oval port is provided for expressing cable applications. Grommets and plastic caps can be split into 2 pieces allowing uncut cable applications.

The FIBREGUARD™ Closure is air and watertight. The air and water tightness are maintained after multiple re-entries. An air valve is available in the closure to perform flash testing as required.

There is a strength member and cable fastening system for each cable entry port.

The FIBREGUARD™ Closure incorporates a feature design called the FANG™, to organize the buffer tubes inside the closure.

The FIBREGUARD™ Closure has a metallic fibre storage compartment, allocating plenty of room for the storing of fibre maintaining a minimum bend radius. The closure is also compatible with the COYOTE transition tray. The FIBREGUARD™ Closure provides a grounding system for metallic shielded cables, available for every cable port.
