Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Last Saturday we had celebrated the Dominican Republic’s feast Of Our Lady of Altagracia.
It was nicely prepared and set up. I want to thank all who helped to prepare for the reception.
It is really enriching to hear of everyone’s spirituality, culture, traditions and variety of foods, hearing
songs, seeing dances etc. It helps us to know and appreciate each other.
Recently as we celebrated Martin Luther King Day, I heard it reported that he said: -
“People hate each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because
they don’t listen to each other, and they don’t listen to each other because they don’t spent time
together,” ........ So in these celebrations, we share all the best of what we have with each other, and
that helps us to realize how special and lovable each one is.
Once more I thank all those involved in the organization of the excellent food, Mass celebration and music.
Lord, I thank You for blessing us with so many expressions of different cultures and nationalities. We continue to pray for a
positive solution to all political immigration issues that need to be addressed and solutions found for all immigrants. And so, we
got back to what MLK said, people don’t know each other because they don’t listen to each other, - so how can they do anything
for each other ??? We need to know each other in order to love one another. This is why the social aspect of the practice of our
faith is so important. It helps us to know each other and truly care for each other. Together we advance in holiness of life, in
becoming Christ like.
For some who desire to be more challenged in their spirituality, this past Monday we started the Neocatechumal
encounters that offer some radical commitment to the Gospel. Should anyone be unhappy about their life and about this world, the
Neocatechumal Way offers another answer, another way to find peace and happiness in ones own life following Christ. If You are
happy already about your life, but you know someone who didn’t find yet the answers to their life problems and unhappiness,
please tell them about this new spirituality group in our parish. Our commitment to Christian life should give us peace and joy. If
we don’t have it yet, we should ask our self what is wrong here, we should question our ways and search for the answers. Jesus still
is working in our times, only we need to answer his call and follow him.
Last Sunday we heard what great impression Jesus made on the disciples. After they were called, they left everything
behind and followed Him. In the Gospel of this Sunday, Jesus continues to teach with authority, the confirmation of his words
finds resemblance in his deeds. These are physical and spiritual acts of healing, miracles, acts of mercy, kindness, compassion. His
fame as the Gospel says was spreading everywhere, until the day of today. Jesus continues to be the answer to all human longings.
It is the world that changes, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. No matter how modern we may think we are, we
all need Jesus to save us. Our modernity often is a reason why we may feel more separated from the Lord. Our sophistication
regarding technology does not help us to stay humble before God. In our self absorption we fail to see our need for God, and this is
why we fail to perceive God’s help and miracles. Jesus’ power works in mysterious and miraculous ways even today, but we need
to open our heart and mind and let him in into our lives.
Each prayer group that we find in our parish, promotes a spirituality that helps individuals to open the windows of our
minds and hearts to the reality of Christ. I strongly recommend, that everyone should have a preferred group, or a spirituality that
would help them to get closer to Christ. What is your preferred way to pray ??? Who is your preferred Saint that would be your
example of understanding or of following Christ ???
Let’s give Jesus a chance to continue to work miracles for us by being open to Him, because the authority of his word
never expires, and since He is alive, so He can continue to walk with us on our journey of faith.

Fr. Stan The Feast of Saint Blaise
Saint Blaise was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia during the
fourth century. Very little is known about his life. According to various
accounts he was a physician before becoming a bishop. We acknowledge
him because, it was told that throughout the entire Church in the Middle
Ages he was reputed to have miraculously cured a little boy who nearly
died because of a fishbone in his throat. From the eighth century he has
been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those afflicted with illnesses
of the throat. This year the feast falls on Saturday, February 3, 2018. We
here at St. Anne’s will offer the opportunity to have your throats blessed
only once that day at the Saturday morning Mass at 9:00 a.m.

SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION ST. ANNE’S PARISH
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION Baptism: For children under 5, please contact the Parish Office (273-8113) for an appointment to speak with a Priest or Deacon at least several weeks before the Baptism. For older children, contact the Office of Family Faith Formation (231-7344). First Holy Communion: Children usually begin Religious Education studies in the First Grade and are prepared for Communion in the Second Grade. Call the Family Faith Formation Office (231-7344) to register your child the summer before the school year begins. Confirmation: This Sacrament is currently cele-brated in the Eighth Grade after 2 years of prepara-tion. Please call the Religious Education Office (231-7344) for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING Sacrament of the Sick: Call the Parish Office at any time to arrange for the Anointing of the Sick either at home or in the hospital. Reconciliation: The Sacrament is celebrated every Saturday from 4:00 - 4:45 PM in the Church or by appointment.
SACRAMENTS OF VOCATION Marriage: Congratulations! Couples planning to marry should make an appointment with a Priest or Deacon at least eight (8) months in advance of the wedding to allow time for adequate preparation. Holy Orders: Is God calling you? Call a Priest or Deacon to discern a possible vocation to the Priest-hood, Diaconate or the Religious life.
DEVOTIONS Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Each Thursday from 12:30 PM until 5:15 PM. First Fri-day from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM. Rosary after the 12:00 daily Mass. Miraculous Medal Novena: Monday after the 12:00 Mass and First Saturday from 8:15 - 9:00 AM.
OUTREACH St. Anne’s Outreach Ministry (Fr. Thomas Con-erty Outreach) is open every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00p.m. The Food Pantry operates on the same days from 9:30 AM to 1:00p.m. only. Please call 273-8113 ext. 229.

Curación en la sinagoga de Cafarnaúm (Mt 1, 21-28)
Jesús llega a Cafarnaúm para ejercer su actividad docente de ensenar en la sinagoga. Esta actividad tenia dos
partes: una oración, otra lectura y exposición de la Escritura (la ley y los profetas). La exposición era mas
bien libre, pero el “método” no, debía senirse a la Escritura o a la tradición rabínica. Jesús lo hace desde la
tribuna dispuesta para esto, pero sorprende por que ensena con “autoridad” (y no como los escribas), método
nuevo y doctrina nueva. No hace alusión a las sentencias rabínicas, el habla la palabra de Dios atribuyéndose
una supuesta divinidad que incomoda y sorprende a todos. En el lugar hay “un endemoniado” que increpa a
Cristo como “Jesus Nazareno”. El manda callar a los demonios, y los hace salir, realiza un milagro, esto
ultimo para rubricar aquel método y doctrina novedosos y “su autoridad”. Todo esto tiene una clara finalidad
“apologética” y “escatológica”. Jesus tiene poder sobre el reino del mal e inicia una “época escatológica” que
es también “mesiánica” , y que ya esta en marcha.
Por todo lo anterior, debemos considerar que ese Jesús Nazareno esta presente en la Liturgia que hoy
celebramos y que no basta reconocerlo, pues también los demonios lo reconocen, mas bien hay que clamarle
que no hoy no pase de largo, que se detenga en nuestras vidas, que nos libere de nuestras ataduras, en una
palabra que ejerza su Autoridad y señorío sobre el reino del mal que nos circunda y que a veces nos aplasta.
El domingo es el dia del Señor, el día en que Cristo resucito, el día en que inauguro un Reino nuevo.

Silence! Sors de cet homme.
En guérissant quelques malades physiques ou mentaux, Jésus ne fait pas seulement acte de
bonté mais montre qu'il est venu entreprendre un combat gigantesque contre le Mal a
l'œuvre dans le monde. L'esprit mauvais qui interpelle Jésus le sait bien: "Es-tu venu pour
nous perdre? Nous, c'est-a-dire toute la horde des esprits mauvais auxquels les Anciens
attribuaient l'origine des maladies, des infirmités et des cataclysmes. La parole et les actes
de Jésus manifestent qu'il est le Messie, le Saint de Dieu et donc que son autorité s'enracine
en Dieu. La profondeur de l'esclavage de l'humanité est telle qu'il nous faut un Sauveur.
Jésus est ce Sauveur au milieu de ses frères qui interpelle vivement cet homme mu par le
menteur:" Silence, sors de cet homme." Jésus fait la lumière en cet homme, il fait advenir en
lui la liberté et l'amour. A la suite de Jésus, nous prions pour la libération du monde. Nous
voulons tenir dans la prière pour que le règne de l'amour de Dieu se manifeste encore.
