Prayer in times of pestilence

Stella caeli exstirpavit

Quae lactavit Dominum

Mortis pestem quam plantavit

Primus parens hominum.

Ipsa Stella nunc dignetur

Sidera compescere,

Quorum bella plebem caedunt

Dirae mortis ulcere.

O gloriosa Stella Maris

A peste succurre nobis;

Audi nos, nam te Filius

Nihil negans honorat.

Salva nos Jesu pro quibus

Virgo mater te orat!

The Star of Heaven that nourished the Lord drove

away the plague of death which the first parents of

man brought into the world. May this bright Star

now vouchsafe to extinguish that foul constellation

whose battles have slain the people with the wound

of death.

O most pious Star of the Sea, preserve us from

pestilence; hear us, O Lady, for Thy Son honors Thee

by denying Thee nothing. Save us, O Jesus, for whom

Thy Virgin Mother supplicates Thee.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I hope that everyone has been having a very happy Easter! Last weekend we began the celebra-

tions of this great feast of the Church. The Easter Vigil was celebrated privately, of course, as were the

Masses of Easter Sunday. It was strange having such an empty church as the light from the Paschal Can-

dle shone out, but it was an apt symbol of Christ shining through the darkness of sin and death. It was a

reminder of the great hope we have in Christ no matter what difficulties we may face. And the Easter

Octave continues through this next Sunday as well, so the feast is not over! What is more, we will be cel-

ebrating the Easter Season for a total of fifty days until we arrive at the Feast of the Pentecost.

I want to remind everyone that we will be continuing with the usual Sunday schedule each

and every Sunday (if a change needs to be made you will be notified by email, plus it will be posted on

the website). This means that we will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:00am to

11:00am. We will have confessions from 9:30am to 11:00am and then the procession at 11:00am.

If confessions go beyond 11:00am then the procession will start a little later.

A big “thank you” to our organist, Sarah Faux! She made masks to give out for both adults and

children. They were very popular, and it looks like we’ll probably have more this weekend. We were

also able to hand out copies of the Sentinel, as well as some other items. And we still have palms for an-

yone who would like to take some home.

Thank you to all who have sent in contributions for our collection. In addition to having the bas-

ket in the church, we’ve been coming around to cars after Adoration with the basket, plus we’ve been

receiving contributions by mail. I received an email from the archdiocese about setting up online giving.

If this is an option that interests you, please email or call and let us know. If there are enough people

who would like to use this option, we will set it up.

In your charity please pray for the repose of the soul of my great-aunt Mary Rexwinkle. She was

my grandmother’s sister and would have been 94 in a couple of months. This marks the third death in

my family in the last four months, but I am consoled that she lived a very full life and was able to die

with the sacraments of the Church. I will be going down to California to celebrate the funeral once the

current restrictions are lifted.

As you can see from the website, there are some new links posted. There are some options to

pray along with Archbishop Sample for various upcoming events, including a Holy Hour for Divine Mer-

cy Sunday.

I also wanted to make another option available to parishioners: if you are not available to come

for Adoration on Sundays, I would like to offer the option to come to the church or chapel for Adoration

of the Blessed Sacrament (without Exposition) during the week. If this interests you, just call or email

and let me know what day and time you would prefer. Afternoons Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and

Friday are best. Once we work out a time and date, I will have the church or chapel open for you. You

can come with your household, but I do not want to have different households in the church at the same

time. Also, I will instruct you how to sterilize the area with wipes when you are finished.

Many blessings upon you and your families during the Easter Season!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Clifton
