Parish Book Club

Monday, May 14th 6:30 PM in the Parish Center

At the last meeting, Book Club members discussed Friday, the Rabbi Slept Late and agreed that it was an enjoyable, easy read and that it was interesting to see how Rabbi Small used his scholarly skills, Talmudic wisdom & collaboration with the Catholic police chief to exonerate himself and find the

real killer of the young woman, whose purse was discovered in his car.

On Mon., May 14th, the group will discuss Night (Part I of “The Night Trilogy: Night, Dawn, Day”) by Elie Wiesel: a personal account of what he (at age 15) and his father experienced in the Nazi concentration camps, their battle for survival, and his battle with God for a way to understand the wanton cruelty he witnessed each day.

The group will then begin reading The Screwtape Letters, by C. S. Lewis for discus-sion at the next meeting on Mon., July 9th. This classic centers on letters written from Screwtape (the devil) to his nephew and pupil, Wormwood; explaining to Wormwood what he is doing wrong in trying to 'turn the patient' (a Christian person) away from the enemy (God).

The St. Bonaventure Parish book club is informal and always welcomes new mem-bers. Meetings are held on the second Mon. of every other month (Jan., Mar., May, Jul., Sep. & Nov.) to provide ample opportunity to complete the readings. You can check out our list of upcoming (and past) reads at stbonaventureplymouth.org. For more info, please send your email to Sue Healy at [email protected] or call her at 508-224-3636, Ext. 120. Join us! “The book is always open!”

“I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.” - Jn 17:15-17

FEAST OF ST. FLORIAN - Last Friday, May 4th, the Church celebrated the Feast of St. Florian, patron saint of firefighters. Our parish sent a decorated cake to the neighboring fire station as an expression of our thanks for their service and our willingness to hold them in prayer.

THE POWER OF PRAYER - There are many ways to increase your pray-er life at St. Bonaventure Church: Rosary, every weekday after morning Mass; Divine Mercy Chaplet, every Friday at 3:00PM; Adoration, every Friday at Noon-5:30PM; Evening Prayer & Benediction, every Friday at 5:30PM; Family Rosary, the first Saturday of the month at 3:30PM; the Outdoor Stations of the Cross and the Rosary Walk.

D uring the first three weekends in May, at the Satur-day 4:00 PM Mass and the Sunday 10:00 AM and

11:30 AM Masses, we will celebrate with our First Com-munion students and their families as they receive their sacrament of Holy Communion. We have placed prayer cards with their names in baskets at the bulletin boards

of the church. Please take one home to keep them in your prayers for the month of May, that they may continue their studies through their Confir-mation and beyond, and that they may develop a Christ-like love for all people.

From Christopher Ricci, Music Director

A few notes about the Triduum .... On Holy Thursday, the choir sang "Pange Lingua Gloriosi" during the transfer of the Eucharist process-ion. On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil, the choir was led by two of our terrific cantors, Jeanne Downey and Jay Scheffer, in the singing of the "Litany of The Saints," a beautiful modern setting by James Becker. Last but not least, it all starts musically with the singing of “The Exultet.” This was done with great precision by Stephen Cuttle, another wonderful singer here at St. Bonaventure Church. An honorable mention was that joining the choir at the Easter Vigil once again was violinist, Andrea Delaney. Her musicality greatly enhanced our liturgy that night.
