Your acknowledgement and appreciation really does make their day! When we hear the word ‘Easter’ we probably think with delight about holidays, having a weekend away, Easter eggs and generally a time of celebration. At Easter we remember Jesus. We remembered how He suffered and was put to death and especially how He rose again. We remember with faith. God, our Father loved us so much, he sent his son Jesus to live amongst us, to share our lives, to share our suffering and to share our death. Most importantly He was raised to new life. That is the joy of Easter. Despite the darkness of the suffering and death of Jesus, there is light and hope because of His resurrection. This is why we have a holiday. Dear Parents and Carers

What a fabulous response and attendance from parents and caregivers to our ‘Getting To Know Your Child’ Parent/Teacher meetings. Feedback from teachers has been very positive and they have really appreciated the time parents have taken to complete the questionnaires and attend these meetings.

Thank you to the teachers for your ongoing commitment, preparation and passion in ensuring that we are providing the best possible outcomes to all students.

I would also like to thank the many parents who are giving such positive feed back to the teachers and taking the time to tell them that they are doing a great job. Your acknowledgement and appreciation really does make their day!

BRIGID’S BUDDIES On Monday morning the St Brigid's Buddies children had a very exciting surprise in the playground. Easter Bunny had left Easter eggs for the children to have an Easter egg hunt! They were most excited running around collecting all the chocolate eggs. The Easter spirit shone as we discussed how we could be fair and share with our friends. The children made Easter gifts creating beautiful and colourful stone Easter eggs and baskets as gifts for their family. I hope all the Buddies and their families have a fantastic and safe Easter and I look forward to hearing all about it on the last Monday of term.

CANTEEN NEWS “How did your first canteen day go?” I asked. “80 orders and 200 nuggets later, we survived in what was a remarkably smooth first day”, replied Kim and Kristy. They did of course sell other delicious items! Thankyou to Kristy, Kim and Holly and all those that supported our first day of opening.

CONDOLENCES We offer our deepest sympathy to Ruby and Isobel and their family on the recent sad loss of their Great Grandmother. Please remember them in your prayers.

It was wonderful to see and welcome our parents, carers, parishioners and friends to our recent St Patrick’s Day, Palm Sunday and Holy Week Liturgies. We certainly value your company and appreciate the time you take out of your day to come along. Grade 3, 4 and 5 students did a wonderful job organising their Liturgies and we

thank them for the fantastic effort they put into the preparation and participation.

St Patricks Day We held our St Patricks Day Liturgy in our school library prepared by our Grade 3 students with the assistance of Miss Maher and Miss Reynolds. Our St Patrick’s Day carnival was a wonderful day for staff, parents and students to compete in some very friendly team sports. It was great to see the fantastic sportsmanship shown on the day and the united house-team chanting led by our house captains to encourage each other. The money raised ($111.30) during our St Patricks Day ‘Jelly’ fundraiser will go towards Project Compassion – Caritas. Thank you Mrs Wells for making over 150 jelly cups; the students certainly enjoyed the treat throughout the day. For further stories similar to those shared over the last few weeks about how Caritas (through Project Compassion) have helped to empower communities to learn more and create change please visit: http://www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion Palm Sunday Liturgy Holy Week Liturgy

EASTER What Is Holy Week? The week preceding Easter is known as Holy Week. It begins on Palm Sunday and is traditionally a week of sombre reflection on the events preceding Jesus’ death: his triumphant entry into Jerusalem; his betrayal by Judas; his Last Supper with his twelve apostles; his arrest, crucifixion and death; and his burial in a tomb.

What Is Palm Sunday? On Palm Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ procession into Jerusalem, which occurred several days before his death. According to the gospels, the people of Jerusalem spread branches from trees—identified specifically as palm branches in John's gospel—on the road to welcome Jesus as he rode a donkey into the city. Because of this, many churches today offer congregants palm fronds as they enter the church on Palm Sunday. In some denominations, the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and of his death is read in church on Palm Sunday, juxtaposing the welcome Jesus received on one day with his betrayal and arrest a few days later. What Is Holy Thursday? On Holy Thursday (also called Maundy Thursday), we commemorate the Last Supper—a Passover meal that Jesus shared with his disciples the night before his death. During the meal, Jesus broke bread and offered his followers wine, saying “This is my body, given up for you.” Many consider this event to have been the institution of the Eucharist, which is a sacrament in some denominations. What Is the Passion? Though today the word “passion” has romantic connotations, it was originally derived from the Latin word passio, meaning suffering. In religious contexts, the Passion (often capitalised) refers to the torture, crucifixion, and death of Jesus.

What Is a Passion Play? A Passion play is a re-enactment of the gospel stories of Jesus’ trial, torture by Roman soldiers, and crucifixion, often with a focus on the carrying of the cross. During Holy Week, groups may stage performances of Passion plays in churches or processions through streets; actors from the congregation play the roles of various characters in the gospels.

What Is Good Friday? We observe Good Friday as the day Jesus was crucified and died. It is the most sombre day on the Christian calendar. On Good Friday, some Christians abstain from meat or refrain from food altogether. They may also attend special church services that might include readings from the gospel stories of Jesus' Passion, Jesus' last words, and other Bible passages. Catholics often make the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. What Is the Triduum? For Catholics and some other Christians, the Triduum is the three-day period marking Jesus' death and burial. It begins on Holy Thursday and concludes as Easter begins. Some people observe the Triduum by attending a worship service on each day, including a long Easter Vigil service on the night before Easter. What Is Pascha? Pascha is the Greek word for the Jewish feast of Passover. With the coming of Christianity, Pascha became the Greek and Latin word for Easter. Eastern Orthodox Christians today still use the word Pascha in referring to Easter, even in English-speaking countries.

What Is Easter? Easter, which celebrates the Resurrection of Christ, it is considered the greatest holy day, surpassing even Christmas. As a celebration of the day Jesus rose from the dead, Easter symbolizes forgiveness, rebirth, and God’s saving power. Christians view the day as a victory over sin, death, and all destructive forces in people’s lives. For Catholics, Easter Sunday comes at the end of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving known as Lent. It’s a celebration that the most hopeless of circumstances could be revived. The resurrection of Jesus is the heart of the Gospel message and, perhaps even, the meaning of the life: that there is hope.

No matter how dark it gets, there is a light that shines.
