Prayer in Thanksgiving
Loving God, we thank you for your presence with your children through the anxiety of the COVID-19 situation. Thank you for wise leadership and health authorities that guide us in making good decisions for our communities. Thank you for doctors, nurses, medical researchers and technicians and all those who are working to care for the sick and develop treatments for this illness. Thank you for the cleaning staff, caregivers and volunteers, and all who are working to keep our environments clean and safe. Thank you for pastors, neighbors and friends who are working to care for those who are vulnerable, alone or afraid. Thank you for the peace and comfort that comes from knowing that we are not alone. God, grant us patience as we wait; grant us courage as we serve you and care for one another; grant us hope as we trust in you for the future. — Amen
“O [People], hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is
great power to redeem” (Psalm 130:7). —The Rev. Amanda Currie Moderator of the 2019 General Assembly

BECOMING ONE
As we celebrate Trinity Sunday this weekend, we count down three weeks to the July 1 merger of the new parish, Triumph of the Holy Cross. Perhaps we feel sad about the end of our former parishes, but let us instead remember their successes and accomplishments. We are able to profess our faith today, in the holy triune God, whose love is revealed in Jesus Christ and who has gifted us with the Spirit. Our former parishes have shared the gift of faith in the Trinity with us; they taught us how to pray in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They nurtured the faith in us through the celebration of the sacraments. They brought us to the present moment to look forward with courage that we too will be able to pass on the faith in the Trinity to future generations.

1. No one can be admitted to Church without a mask and sanitizing hands upon entrance to the Church (sanitizer will be provided; you must bring your own mask that covers your nose and mouth).
2. You will be asked to give your name as you enter the Church for tracking purposes (as per CDC guidelines).
3. You will be ushered to your seat by our greeters and ushers.
4. Instructions for the reception of Holy Communion will be given at the Mass, in which social distancing is required.
5. Holy Communion will only be distributed at the end of Mass. The Bishop’s strongest recommendation is that all receive Communion in the hand.
1. There will be no offertory procession.
2. There will be no sign of peace.
3. Your parish offering can be dropped off as you leave the Church.
4. There is no congregating in small groups inside or outside of the Church.
In an effort to reopen our Churches for the public celebration of the Mass for grouping 225 (St. Clare of Assisi, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Spirit and St. Thomas à Becket), we will begin with the Church
that offers the broadest possibility for seating and parking capacity, which is St. Thomas à Becket (139 Gill Hall Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15025). Only priests and deacons are permitted to distribute
Communion at this time, therefore, they will concelebrate the two weekend Masses.
The release of the obligation of Sunday Mass attendance continues at this time. Remember, if you do not feel well or have any health issues, the Bishop has strongly suggested that you stay home and continue to use the various resources for live streaming and broadcasting of Masses, including our own parish Mass. To view, go to YouTube and type in parish grouping 225.
Our return to the public celebration of the Mass begins this Saturday, June 6 at 4:00 PM and Sunday Mass will be at 9:00 AM. Both Masses will be at St. Thomas à Becket in the Church. The Saturday anticipated Mass will be broadcast on YouTube at 6:00 PM and available to view any time afterwards. Beginning Monday, June 8, weekday Masses will be at St. Thomas à Becket at 8:00 AM in the Church and available for viewing at home at 9:00 AM.
This is only the beginning process for returning to the public celebration of the Mass.
As we move on, the number and location of Masses will necessarily change.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. 2 Corinthians 13:13

June 2, 2020 Given all that is transpiring around us and within us, I ask that you ponder the following:
This has been a tough week. Since the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the beginning of last week, we have been confronted again with a number of ugly issues, perhaps the most notable of all, the sin of racism. Given the violence which we witnessed in Pittsburgh these past days and the escalating tensions in many major cities throughout the United States, we continue our prayers for peace and calm in the midst of ongoing violent protests following the death of George Floyd. In 2018, we bishops in the United States released a pastoral letter entitled “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love—A Pastoral Letter Against Racism.” I can think of no better time than now for us to use any opportunity that comes our way to read and reflect on an issue that is as ugly as racism. This is truly a time for us to recognize the effects of that sin, which are stunningly evident in our streets and in our news stories. It is equally important for us to search our hearts to see if that sin is within us. If you do not have a copy of the letter, you may retrieve it at the following:
http://usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/racism/upload/open-wide-our-hearts.pdf
Wake Me Up, Lord
Wake me up Lord so that the evil of racism finds no home within me.
Keep watch over my heart Lord
and remove from me any barriers To your grace.
Fill my spirit Lord so that I may give
services of justice and peace.
Clear my mind Lord and use it for your glory.
And finally, remind me Lord that you said,
“Blessed are the peacemakers
for they shall be called children of God.”
Amen.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on May 29, 2020 that 16 counties in western and central Pennsylvania, including much of the Pittsburgh area, will move to the green phase of reopening on June 5. In our diocese, Allegheny, Butler, Greene and Washington Counties will be joining Lawrence County, which moved into the green phase on Friday, May 29. The green phase does not mean that everything is back to what we once knew as normal. Under the green phase, restaurants and bars, hair salons, barbershops, gyms, spas, wellness facilities, casinos, theaters and shopping malls are all allowed to open, but they must limit occupancy to 50%. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines must continue to be followed. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, said people will still need to wear masks and remain vigilant to potential spread of the virus. Religious institutions are strongly encouraged to enforce social distancing and other mitigation measures. As such, all current diocesan reopening guidelines, outlined in the “Moving Forward Together Guide,” remain in effect until further notice. In these changing times, Bishop David is asking you to support your pastor and his parish team, to work through the reopening transitions. Please consult your parish office or website for more information regarding these plans.

We are looking to recruit volunteers for the COVID-19 Safety Team as well as the Cleaning and Sanitizing Team. Volunteers must be under the age of 65 and free from serious health conditions (such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory, or an immune deficiency disease). We will provide training. College students home for the summer, please consider helping out! Please complete the form below and mail it to your Church Office.

Please mail this form to your Church Office.
LOCATION OF SACRAMENTS We all seek to return to normal relations with other people during these difficult times. As we make decisions as to the location of Confessions and Mass, this is done from the perspective of how we can best minister to you, given the logistical constraints that none of us are used to (i.e., Confessions in the parking lot and possible outdoor Mass). Some of the factors we must take into consideration are ease of access, accommodating two stations for confessions, the layout of the parking lot and developing a regular schedule/site in order to establish some sense of routine. We ask you to be mindful of three important considerations: First, these accommodations are temporary; second, we are becoming one parish and we are presented with daily opportunities to grow, go beyond our comfort zone, which will help us more fully live this reality; and finally, Jesus waits and is longing to embrace us through the sacraments – calling us into a deeper unity in the Body of Christ.
REQUESTING CANDLES LIT IN OUR CHURCHES If you would like to have a candle lit for a special intention, please mail your intention(s) with a check/cash to the Church Office. You can also call the Church Office to request that a candle be lit for a special intention. In order to prevent possible transmission of germs from touching the candles and/or candle stick lighters, candles will only be lit at your request, by staff.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS We are all excited about reopening the Churches. However, if you are not feeling well or you are vulnerable (over the age of 65, have a compromised immune or respiratory health issue, or another risk factor), you are encouraged to continue praying from the privacy of your home. We ask that everyone follow the standard prevention protocols: wear a mask; maintain social distance of 6 feet and practice frequent hand hygiene. Any time you feel ill, please stay home.

Office of the Bishop May 27, 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers of Saint Clare of Assisi, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Holy Spirit and Saint Thomas à Becket Parishes: On April 12, 2015, when I initiated On Mission for The Church Alive!, who of us could have ever imagined the ways in which the COVID-19 virus and crisis would affect every aspect of our daily lives? As we continue to live through many changing realities, please know that I pray for you daily asking our Heavenly Father to shower you with abundant grace, good health and much hope. Despite present challenges with the pandemic, your parishes completed the merger process of consultation with parishioners, and members of your Pastoral and Finance Councils signed a petition to move forward with the merger plan. In turn, your grouping administrator (pro-tem), Father Frederick Cain, petitioned me to merge the parishes. On May 7, 2020, the diocesan Priest Council and Vicars General gave consent to the proposal, and I have accepted these recommendations: Effective July 1, 2020, your current parishes will cease to exist, and the new parish of Triumph of the Holy Cross will take their place. Every member of your current parishes is now a member of the newly formed parish. Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish will also inherit all of the assets, responsibilities and liabilities of the current parishes. Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish will be served by the following clergy team: Father Paul Zywan, Pastor Father Jason Charron, Parish Chaplain Father Kenneth Kezmarsky, Senior Parochial Vicar Deacon Gerard Como Father William Terza, Senior Parochial Vicar Your current grouping administrator (pro-tem), Father Frederick Cain, has requested and has been granted permission to begin retirement. Your priests and deacon have worked diligently in service to you and to God throughout this process, and I am deeply grateful for their care and leadership. This has not been a simple task. Jesus never promised that it would be easy to carry his message of love and mercy to others. He was clear that sacrifice would be necessary. However, you are positioning your new parish for more effective ministry by addressing financial needs, sharing resources and allowing your clergy to focus on the spiritual work for which they were ordained. With your faith in Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit, I invite you to warmly welcome and serve each other as you become one parish family. Grateful for our continued efforts together in being On Mission for The Church Alive!, and for our belief that “Nothing is Impossible with God, I am Your brother in Christ, Most Reverend David A. A well-choreographed dance can be truly inspirational. Each movement and step are interconnected, each contributing a piece of the unfolding artistic story. The beholder is caught up in the rhythms, music, and gestures, realizing that none are dispensable and all are necessary. The same is true of the Divine Dance of the Trinity. Each Person plays a part, using unique gestures and movements that are connected to the other Divine Partners. They tell a story of love. Every movement and step is born of love and flows on into eternity. The Divine Dance never ends. God the Creator powerfully, yet with gentle love, leads. Creating and
recreating, birthing and sustaining, He dances with the compassionate incarnate Son, guided by the breath of the Holy Spirit. They are three distinct Persons but move as One. On one hand, the cascading flow of their Presence appears motionless, yet on the other, flows and moves with effortless attention. They share one heart, one goal, and one purpose and invite all of creation to join in their dance, their joy. The energy of the Trinity flows through all created things. It is a dance of the heart, not of the mind. It has to be experienced, not dissected, and contemplated, not understood. We stand in awe of the Divine Dance and find ourselves watching in amazement all that God creates and sustains. The dance continues in the majesty of a mountain, the power and wonder of an ocean, and the vastness of the universe. It moves in the cry of a newborn infant and in the soul of one who has been forgiven. It flows in the cry for justice and in the wounds of the oppressed. It circles through the changing of seasons, the cycles of birth and death, and the wisdom that one acquires when they love God.
Remember our faithful departed in your prayers …

Today we celebrate the Divine dance—a perfectly choreographed interplay of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Together they dance and move as one though three unique Persons with distinctive, yet harmonious patterns and steps. They provide a mirror into our soul. Within each one of us, the Divine dance continues and the music of God’s love continues to inspire, sustain and recreate us with every step and melody. Can you hear the music that the Triune God is playing? Where is the dance leading you? Our minds can never truly understand or know God. But our hearts can seek and find Him. From beginning to end, God is one and, at the same time, Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. God’s holy Trinitarian dance is calling you to holiness. Join in and dance!

Some suggestions at mealtime are:
Tri-color pasta
Neapolitan ice cream
Tri-tip roast
Cloverleaf rolls
Tres Leche cake
Triple Chocolate Anything, including cake

Triple Sec can be an ingredient for an

Three Cheese Macaroni and Cheese
Triple Scoop Ice Cream
Triple Scoop Brownie Sundae with
Triangle-shaped Brownies Decorations: The images of Trinitarian
symbols (from the book Church Symbolism by
F.R. Webber, 1938) can be the inspiration to
create a centerpiece or mobile to hang above
the dinner table (some favorites are the
shield of the Trinity and Holy, Holy, Holy). Celebrating the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity
is a way to ease a bit into Ordinary Time after
a season of being “overcome with paschal
joy.” Because we are so familiar with the
prayers and referral to the three persons of
the Trinity, this feast is a reminder to take
time to dwell on the mystery of the Trinity. —by Jennifer Gregory Miller from CatholicCulture.org
Although the Trinity is invoked every day of
the year in the Liturgy, this feast can be an
opportunity to praise the Holy Trinity and
discuss the mystery of faith further within the
family. So often “mystery” is seen as a negative
connotation, seen as something unsaid or
undefined, or something we humans cannot
know. It is true our human minds can never
fully grasp the entirety of the doctrine, but
the mystery is knowing just enough to want
to know and seek more. A mystery of faith
should be a magnet that draws us farther and
inspires us to delve deeper in our quest to
know, love and serve God. Here are some easy ways to bring the Trinity
home this week: Prayer: Remembering the Sign of the Cross
and the Glory Be are two of the first prayers
we learn that give glory and mention to the
Blessed Trinity. Traditionally in the liturgy
the Athanasian Creed has been prayed at
Mass on Trinity Sunday and other days during
the Time after Pentecost; in some places the
Creed is still prayed on Trinity Sunday. This
could be the prayer to recite together before
dinner.
This is another feast that we can recall our
baptism, since in the name of the Trinity we
become children of God and members of the
Church.
Symbols at Mealtime: Remembering the
various symbols of the Trinity, such as the
circle, the equilateral triangle, trefoil,
triquetra and the fleur-de-lys can be used as
visual reminders, even in our meals.
Different recipes or food can be the
inspiration for family discussion about the
Trinity.
The Triquetra
The Fleur de Lys
St. Patrick’s Shamrock
From the Catacombs
Prayer to the Holy Trinity
Father, you sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy.
Through them we come to know
the mystery of your life.
Help us to worship you, one God in three Persons, by proclaiming
and living our faith in you.
We ask you this, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, true and living, forever and ever. Amen.
