Divine Mercy Sunday April 15, 2012

Oh Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a Font of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

~ Divine Mercy Chaplet Stewardship Reflection on Lectionary Readings: April 15, 2012 Acts 4:32-35; Ps. 118:2-4, 13-15,22-24; 1 Jn. 5:1-6; Jn. 20:19-31

In today’s readings we learn a great deal about how we are to live as Christian disciples. We have entered into the Easter Season. Christ has risen, and, as today’s readings indicate, the Church that He established lives on. His disciples carry on their faith in Him, and in so doing, they teach us how to do the same. In the first reading from the book of Acts, Luke paints a picture of what life was like in the early Church. “The community of believers was of one heart

and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions were his own. They had everything in common. … There was no needy person among them.” . . .Luke’s description tells us is that the early Christians lived charitably towards one another. They loved the Lord, and out of their love for Him, they loved one another. Their lives as Christians were rooted in their faith in Christ. That faith led them to love — love God and love neighbor. And so they lived in love of one another, recognizing that nothing they had belonged to them, and using all they had been given by God in service of one another . . . Today’s second reading reinforces this theme and emphasizes, for us, the necessity of living a life of love rooted in faith in Christ. St. John tells us, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the Father loves also the one begotten by Him . . .” if we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, it follows that we must love — both God and neighbor. But St. John . . . continues, “In this way, we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.” So it is clear, as Christians our life of faith is a life lived actively in love of others. . . We believe in the risen Christ, and we proclaim Him to the world, but it is not just by what we say that we proclaim Christ. What we do, how we act, must follow suit. We’re all familiar with St. Francis of Assisi’s famous quote, “Preach the gospel at all times, when necessary, use words.” The life of a Christian disciple ought to be lived in love of others, and through those loving actions, people will see the gospel lived out. After all, that’s just what Christ did. He lived for love of others — even to the point of death. And that is what stewardship is all about. Like those early Christians, we recognize that nothing we have is ours. It all comes to us by way of gift from our heavenly Father, and so it is our responsibility to cultivate and care for it all – our time, our talent, and our treasure — wisely, using it in love of God and neighbor. In so doing, we proclaim the Gospel of Love that Jesus Christ Himself preached.

Concerning the Feast of Mercy Jesus said:

. . My daughter, tell the whole world about My Inconceivable Mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My Mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. [emphasis added] On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My Mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom It throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender Mercy. . . The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that It be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699) The Hour of Great Mercy

At three o'clock, implore My Mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great Mercy ... In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion. (Diary 1320).

As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour immerse yourself completely in My Mercy, adoring and glorifying It, invoke It's omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment Mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world - Mercy triumphed over justice. [emphasis added] Try your best to make the Stations of the Cross in this hour, provided that your duties permit it; and if you are not able to make the Stations of the Cross, then at least step into the Chapel for a moment and adore in the Most Blessed Sacrament, My Heart, which is full of mercy. And should you be unable to step into Chapel, immerse yourself in prayer there where you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant. (Diary 1572)

Our school is currently on Easter vacation, although construction continues on the parish’s latest phase of development and growth, the library/admin. building. Sidewalks and pathways have been poured; the interior of the building is being painted; infrastructure such as the fire panel, server, phones, and surveillance cameras are being installed. This is such an exciting time for our School and Parish!

Our enrollment for the coming school year continues, and plans are already in motion for the opening of the seventh grade in September. We are delighted to announce that Mrs. Elizabeth Clark will join our faculty next year as the seventh grade homeroom teacher. Mrs. Clark is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering, and holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from USC. She will be a wonderful addition to an already stellar faculty and staff!

St. Gregory the Great Catholic School will be closed for Easter Vacation from April 6 to 13, with students returning to school on April 16.

Excerpts from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Letter on “Marriage: Love & Life in the Divine Plan”:

HELPMATES “Marriage is a unique communion of persons. In their intimate union as male and female, the spouses are called to exist for each other. Just as Genesis describes Eve as a helper for Adam, we can see that in marriage, a husband and wife are meant to help each other through self-giving.” To read the entire document, please visit:
