FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM

FAITH FORMATION Welcome back to all our Faith Formation students! We missed you and are anx-ious to get you all back in classroom to continue spreading God’s word. CATECHIST CORNER:

This week’s dedicated volunteer is Jasmine Mondragon, lead 2nd grade catechist. She is a fulltime student and enjoys read-ing and hanging out with her friends in her spare time. This is her 3rd year teaching and had always wanted to teach others about God so took the oppor-tunity when was asked to help. Jasmine’s inspiration is her good

friend because even though she’s been through sever-al hardships she keeps going and does her best daily. CATECHECTICAL SUNDAY BLESSINGS TO: Molly Lendman, Patti De Leon, Miguel Quiroga Maria Madewell, Victoria Lozano, Leslie Gonzales Christina Bauer, Terri Longoria, Maricela Vergara Al Garza, Cellina Soria, Victor Longoria, Jasmine Mondragon, Delia Burkett, Juan Villanueva, Rose Garcia Garza, Gabriela Bogran, Yolanda Gonzales, Michael Urruita, Audrey Garcia, Loli Mata, Jesse Lozano , Roberta Urrutia, Jose Sandoval, Thelia Ma-ta Loving Father, We pray today for our catechists. We thank you for their gift of ministry in your Church. Grant them your wisdom that they may grow in the understanding and teaching of your Word. Grant them also your love that they may be fruitful heralds of your Word and lead others to love you. Pour forth your Holy Spirit upon them to grant them wisdom about what is im-portant; knowledge of the truths of faith; understand-ing of their meaning; right judgement about how to apply them in life; courage to persevere even in the face of adversity; reverence before all that is sacred and holy; and that loving zeal which leads others to a transforming encounter with your Son. We pray this

through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Come join us for Wednesday evening Mass at 6:30pm. Come refresh your soul.

THE MEANING OF DISCIPLESHIP The geography of today’s Gospel is significant. Jesus is completing his ministry in Galilee and begin-ning his journey to Jerusalem, where he will meet both death and resurrection. The prediction of his death placed here is the second of three in Mark’s Gospel, and as usual it is the occasion for an im-portant teaching on the part of Jesus. Today that les-son is tied to the need for his disciples to embrace a ministry of service. A play on words in Aramaic would have linked the words “child” and “servant,” thus turning Jesus’ gesture of placing a child in their midst into an illustration of his understanding of him-self as the Servant of the Lord. It is that same aware-ness of the meaning of their ministry that Jesus (and Mark) wishes to instill in the disciples. Theirs must be a ministry of service if they are to follow in the foot-steps of Jesus. And that service might even require of them that they be “handed over” to death. What would have been—in the culture of Jesus’ day—an ordinary discussion of social status (“who is the great-est”) becomes in Mark’s context a key insight into the meaning of discipleship for the disciples and for us.
