A helping hand: A long time member of the parish has asked if someone would be interested in taking her for a

oxygen but handles it independently. If interested in helping, please contact Sister Perpetua at the office 438-3230.
Thank you.

October 14-15, 2017
The Pastor’s Corner
It’s hard to believe that we are at the mid-point of
October! Plans are underway for us to host the
Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service on Tuesday, Nov. 21st at
7:30 PM. (Save the date!) Mother Nature is slowly going
to sleep, spring bulbs are being planted for their spring
appearance, and the Confirmation Class will be assisting
the elderly with a yard clean up as part of their service
hours to the parish and community. In many ways, fall is a
season of preparation for the invitation to new life in the
spring…of course we have the reality of winter to face in-
between!
Today’s readings mention rich food, great wines,
banquets placed before us, and invitations to a splendid
wedding feast. Yes, lavish gatherings for those invited. But
there is a catch. The people to whom Matthew was writing
(Jews who accepted Jesus and the Gentiles coming to faith)
must enter the feast with a wedding garment, that is, a true
spirit of repentance and accompanied with good works.
There are so many opportunities to manifest our
faithfulness to Christ in this colorful season. Our weekly
gifts of non-perishables or a financial donation to the Bread
of Life Food Pantry support families throughout the year.
Bring an extra can or two as a run up to Thanksgiving Day.
Likewise, many social organizations are or will be collecting
winter coats. Prepare and recycle your clean, extra coats to
clothe the needy in our midst.
Without a doubt, Psalm 23 is by far the most famous
prayed psalm in the Hebrew Scriptures. It’s the final stanza
that summarizes the life of a faithful servant of the Lord.
It’s message and hope bears repeating again and again…
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the
LORD
for years to come.
The Lord’s steadfast love and mercy abides and dwells
within us if we accept the invitation. Change your world;
and do something beautiful for God today.
~Monsignor Darcy
