St. Mary Parish

119 West Fayette Street

Manchester, Iowa 52057

Dear St. Mary Parishioners:

We present the Financial Report for St. Mary Parish that covers two fiscal

years from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013. It is good to review the operations

of a Parish over a 2 year period to see how income and expenses compare. At

the end of the first fiscal year we were only $15,000 over budget. As we

complete this month of September, 2013 we find ourselves about $32,000

over budget. In the summer months income is lower yet parish and school

salaries have to be paid.

The reason for our being a Parish is the education and catechesis of all our

parishioners. We have the responsibility to share our faith with our children.

Through parents, teachers, administrators and school board members we are

providing a quality faith-based education that not only benefits our children

but also lays the foundation for the practice of our faith for years to come.

The main source of our income is the budget envelope and the tuition for

St. Mary School and the religious education programs. We need to continue

to support the third source of income, Parish Festivals, the St. Mary School

GALA, bequests, memorials and estates.

A big part of our expenses involve St Mary School and our religious

education programs from infancy to adult. The last few years, St Mary

School has reduced it’s subsidy lowering our costs while maintaining

minimal tuition increases and conducting many fundraising activities

including the GALA & SCRIP.

Financially we are very sound. We have $1.7 million in endowed funds

($189,952 in savings and $1,526,993 in our D&L holding funds.) We cannot

sit back and allow our deficit to grow as we will soon find ourselves

operating in the red. Currently of our 1,065 households, 604 families are

contributing, 401 are not. I would encourage you to increase your weekly

giving and consider electronic giving of your budget for the Parish.

It is important to be involved in the life of the parish. We all need to

volunteer our time and talents to contribute to the vitality of our parish

family. If we invest ourselves into the life of the parish, we will all contribute

to our Parish success.

God has truly blessed our Parish Family. Let us continue to share in those

blessings with one another as we all partake in the kingdom of God.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Joseph Schneider

Prayer for the Year of Faith

Loving God, send your Spirit to open our hearts to Jesus. In this Year of Faith, guide us to a deeper conversion.

Help us to rediscover the beauty of our faith, repropose the truth of our faith, and renew the heart of our faith.

Grant us the courage to live as authentic witnesses to your love. May the sharing of faith transform our homes,

neighborhoods, parishes, and nations. Mary, faithful Mother of God, intercede for us in this blessed Year of Faith.

We make this prayerthrough our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever. Amen.
