PRAYERS AND MASSES - ORACIONES Y MISAS

MASS FOR NAMES ON MEMORIAL WALL The April Mass for the names of those family and friends on the Memorial Wall will be in Spanish on Saturday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m.

HOW TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE INTENTION OF A SCHEDULED MASS If you wish to have reserve an Intention for one of our scheduled Masses, please contact the Parish Office, preferably in person. The recommended stipend is $10/Mass. You may choose to remember someone who is deceased or you can pray for the special intention of yourself or someone you know. Many people like to remember a deceased family member on their birthday or on the anniversary of their death. Being remem-bered in a Mass also makes a nice birthday gift for a living friend or relative.

JOIN IN PRAYER The Altar Society invites you to pray with us for a clean and beautiful church area and sanctuary. We know God will answer our prayers, especially if we are all praying for the same thing. We have a beautiful old church building and grounds, and it can still be beauti-ful IF we care for it.

“A Prayer for Our Troops” Dear Lord, We thank you for the lives and service of our men and women in the Armed Forces. Strengthen them and give them guidance as they stand in harm’s way to protect our nation and way of life. May they face each day of their ser-vice the same way Your Son Jesus did: with courage, dignity, and faith. And if it be Your will, when their work is through, bring them safely home. Lord, please also bless the families of our troops. Reward them generously for their sacrifices which are known only to You. May we never forget those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and safety: those who have died in the service of our country. May they rest in peace forever with You in Your kingdom. Amen.

SOUP AND SCRIPTURE Sunday, March 29 from 6—8 p.m. in the Star of the Sea Center.

SAVED BY GOD’S LOVE Because the people broke the old covenant, God prom-ised a new covenant, not in the blood of oxen and other animals, but in the blood of the Son, Jesus Christ. This new covenant, foreseen from afar by Jeremiah and the prophets, was not to be engraved on stone, or written on paper, but carved on our hearts, so that we might know God intimately. Not by keeping many laws are we to be saved, but by the love of God, living and real in our hearts through the sacrifice of Christ. Our Eucharist is the pledge of that indwelling of Christ, and of our response of praise and thanksgiving to God for the mercy, love, and kindness to us in forgiving our sins and cleansing our hearts of everything evil. God issues this invitation to intimacy by offering us the chance to have our sufferings transformed into the per-fect love of the Savior, who first loved us. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

BLESSED SACRAMENT CHAPEL We too love to be busy. We complicate our lives being busy. Our lives will become uncomplicated if only we will listen to Jesus. Jesus loved us enough to be cruci-fied on a Friday from 12-3. Would you accept the invi-tation to adore him these three hours? Or could you spend just one hour with HIM? Please call Becky Panopoulos at 760.722.9265 or Rosa Diaz at 760.433.2891.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS Take your souse to work this week. Do you have a photo or momento of your spouse visible at your work place? Let others know you’re proud of your spouse.

PARENTING POINTERS Sometimes we can get so caught up in taking care of our kids that we think it all depends on us. “If you fre-quently empty yourself for others, it’s important not to be full of yourself.” (Raising Kids Who Will Make a Dif-ference). Parents, if you can, take a break today. If not today, soon.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK The Gospel of John sees Jesus’ Death as a glorification. Today’s Gospel announces the beginning of that hour of glory. The image of the grain of wheat illustrates how the action of dying to self will lead to a triumphant fu-ture. ADULTS: What actions of sacrifice in my life are pro-ducing lasting benefit for myself and others? CHILDREN: Do I recognize the sacrifices others make for me? Do I thank them for their love?

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING The pictures or visual aids that appear in front of the Ambo each week are related to what you hear in one of the Readings. Occasionally, the picture might be a scene or something in the First or Second Reading, but most of the time it is a depiction of something you will hear in the Gospel. These pictures are placed there for you to have an image in your mind to take with you as you reflect on the Scripture you have heard during Mass.

  • ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL Our parish assessment this year is $33,000 for the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your participation, regardless of gift amount, does make a difference. Pledges to date (received from 134 families) is $25,934. That’s about 78.5% of our goal. Whatever is not received from parishioners must be made up at the end of the year by the parish. This can have a serious effect on our budget. This year we were asked to make up a deficit of $2,016. At your earliest convenience, please complete the pledge en-velope in the spirit of the many blessings God has bestowed upon you. You are encouraged to consider the suggested gift amounts. Remember, no gift is too small.

    MAKE YOUR TITHING CONTRIBUTIONS CONVENIENT

Just a reminder that there are several ways to support the parish. 1.) Cash or check in an Envelope 2.) Loose cash in the “Plate” 3.) “Automatic Bill Pay” from your bank 4.) “ACH/EFT” 5.) “Credit Cards” To take advantage of the EFT or Credit options, please contact the Parish Office with your name and address and we will mail you a form.

DOTTIE GREENE has three sons, seven grandchildren, and a Great Dane! Her husband, Steve, is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and serves on the Parish Finance Council. Dottie & Steve came to St. Mary’s after serving many years at Good Shepherd in San Diego. Dottie volunteered in our Religious Education program for five years

before accepting an official position on our staff as the Liturgy & Minister Coordinator. As if that wasn’t enough, she started a much-needed Funeral Ministry at St. Mary’s. She has a very gentle and compassionate nature that eases the pain and burden faced by our bereaved families. Dottie has a manner about her that says she’s the one to get the job done. We all appreci-ate that so much! Please keep her in your prayers. She is truly a blessing to our parish.

YOUR PARISH STAFF I (Barbie) have worked here at St. Mary’s since 1972 and been Business Manager since 1991. Never have we had such a dedicated group of employees. Every one of them considers their job a ministry and it shows in their work. It is a blessing to be on the same team with this group of people. I want to take the next few months to introduce you to each one, a week at a time. Please keep the entire staff and clergy in your prayers .

VENDORS & ARTISANS WANTED The Fifth Annual Renaissance Faire, hosted by St. Mary’s 7th Grade, is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If any vendors, artisans, or organizations would like to reserve a booth for a mod-est fee, please contact Rose Navarro at 722.7259 no later than March 31.

Plans are underway for our third annual Parish Picnic which is scheduled for Saturday, June 20. There will be lots of food, games, and entertainment from 1-5 p.m. with the Mass at 5 p.m. Parishioners can bring their own picnic basket or buy a wonderful assortment of food for very reasonable prices. We have a Plan-ning Committee in place, but would welcome more members. We are also looking for “worker bees”. Contact Barbie at 722-1688.

MAGNIFICAT The next Magnificat Meal will be at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido on April 18 at 9 a.m. You are invited to a morning of prayer, praise, fellowship, and a great breakfast. In next week’s bulletin, you will find a report showing the financial status of the parish for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd quarters (July—March) of the 2008/09 fiscal year. Just after Easter, the Finance Council will begin working on the 2009/10 budget.
