THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

THE MYSTERY OF THE BLESSED

TRINITY

Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God who is one, but three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The rst reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes both God’s awesome greatness and amazing nearness. It might seem be-yond belief, but the God of all creation speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The second reading from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans describes how we are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with our brother, Christ, the second per-son of the Trinity, in whose sufferings we must also share. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus speaks with his authority as God and sends us to teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity. — Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

POPE’S PRAYER FOR MARY DURING THE COVID-19

PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of Salvation and of hope. We entrust our-selves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salva-tion of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting af-ter this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our suffer-ings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain

the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,

O glorious and blessed Virgin.

FEAST OF FAITH Liturgy and the Holy Trinity

The Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. We believe that God is one, yet three: total unity and rich diversity. God is not a monolith, but a dynamic community of persons, a perfect, loving harmony of three. And the liturgy is the work of the Trinity. We begin all our liturgical celebrations with the sign of the cross, a reminder of our Trinitarian baptism, and the simplest of all professions of our faith. We believe that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we gather in the name of this triune God. Throughout the Mass, we address our pray-ers to God the Father, through Christ our Lord, in the Spirit’s power. And the Father hears our pray-er, transforming bread and wine into the Body and Blood of his Son by the Holy Spirit. The Church is “the sacrament of trinitarian commun-ion” (Sacramentum Caritatis, 16). It is the Trinity who holds us together as well. In the words of Saint Cyprian, we are “a people made one by the unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spir-it” (quoted in Sacramentum Caritatis, 16). —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Members of the Ministry of Altar Care utilize their talents and abilities to maintain the church, choir loft, sanctuary and sacristy areas in preparation for all liturgical celebrations. If you can spear an hour on a Friday evening, please contact the rec-tory of ce at 201-944-1154.

If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn’t we work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn’t we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time in prayer, our talent in charitable works and our treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way?
