Dear Friends, This coming Tuesday, June 30 marks the conclusion of my service as Pastor of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish. Since arriving here four years ago, I have felt welcomed, supported and encouraged by all of you who make this great parish your spiritual home. The me together has flown by, yet so much good has happened in a short amount of me.

I hope that you are all pleased with the progress we have made together as a Catholic parish. The growth in the number of young families, the variety of parish programs, and the progress made on the comple on of our beau ful parish church are all good signs of a vibrant Catholic community. Thanks to your investment of me, talent and treasure, St. Raphael is a parish where: the Catholic liturgy and sacraments are celebrated with reverence, the Catholic faith is shared with new people, and the love of Christ is expressed through works of charity and mercy. I see a bright future for our parish because the Lord is at work in all of this, and the Holy Spirit will con nue a rac ng new people to St. Raphael. While I am looking forward to becoming the Bishop of Belleville, I realize how much I will miss being here with you. Bishops seldom have Mass with the same group of people Sunday a er Sunday, weekday a er weekday. Bishops tend to be "on the move" visi ng different parishes throughout the year. It has been a real privilege for me to see you and pray with you weekly; we have a terrific community here. I am grateful for all that we have shared, and ask that you remember me in your prayers. Thank you! I regret that sea ng at my ordina on in the cathedral of Belleville will be limited because of public safety concerns. However, I am pleased that the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) has agreed to broadcast the ordina on live on Wednesday, July 22 at 2:00pm CST. Please tune in and join us in prayer. May St. Raphael the Archangel pray for all of us before the Lord in heaven, and may St. Raphael protect each one of us on the path that leads to the Kingdom of God. Chalice Presented to Father McGovern The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Quarter Assembly has a tradi on of presen ng a chalice to a priest when one of the members of the Assembly passes. Chalices are usually present-ed around the me of ordina on of the priest. With Father McGovern’s upcoming ordina on as Bishop of Belleville, a chalice was presented in the memory of Ron Kotal who was a member of the parish and of the Knights of Columbus. Ron’s widow, Mariana, made the presenta on of the chalice to Father McGovern on June 16, 2020 in a special ceremony held at the Church.

Catholic Chari es Lake County Services School Supply Project 2020 Every year, Catholic Chari es supports low-income families in the Lake county area by collec ng and distribu ng donated school supplies. The project allows children of these families to be well-prepared for the upcoming school year. For children experiencing poverty, school supplies are a luxury that many go without. Each year, we strive to ensure that each child will have a backpack with the basic school supplies to start the upcoming year. We desperately need dona ons of backpacks and school supplies to meet the needs of the families we serve. Each dona on you make helps ensure that any family seeking help from Catholic Chari es can start the school year successfully! All supplies must be new and should be delivered no later than August 4 to Catholic Chari es, located at 671 S. Lewis Ave. in Waukegan, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
