Our Prayer Petitions
WEEKLY DEADLINE FOR BULLETIN ENTRIES IS EVERY MONDAY AT 5:00 PM. EMAIL [email protected].
Call Shasta Hatter for more information or to volunteer. 503-253-7566.
We pray that in these few pages you will find little but
loving snapshots of our community, God’s Word from
Scripture that will feed our soul and spirit, and nug-
gets for thought and reflection that will inspire us to
be faithful Catholics who are well-informed and well-
formed. We pray that our Parish Bulletin will lead us
to practical and spiritual inspirations that will help us
to be more committed to reach out to our family, our
friends, and our Parish. We are different “sojourners,”
different “travelers,” that have St. Therese of the Child
Jesus as our gathering place. Because we are family
we need to help each other make it a good place for
thanksgiving, love and encouragement. May we help
St. Therese become the community that is faithful to
the Holy Eucharist by our prayers, by our works and by
our love.

I can help someone be holy? Really? 4
1. Help someone get in touch with the Parish if they want to enroll in Religious Education classes.
2. Be an encourager of each good step taken, however small. Remember, we are all learners.
3. Be a bridge between people, not a divider. When a friend complains to you about someone, encourage your friend to communicate directly to the person.
4. Do not pass on the gossip (see number 3). 5. Do not lead to temptation. Do not lead anyone to a
situation that will expose that person to a vice or behavior he is trying to overcome.
6. If someone asks, share why you continue to be Catholic and how it helps you with life.
7. Offer to accompany someone who would like to get more information about Religious Education but is not sure how to do it.

Bocelli was born to Alessandro and Edi Bocelli on September 22, 1958. Doctors advised the couple to abort him, as they predicted that the child would be born with a disability. It was evident at birth that Bocelli had numerous problems with his sight, and was eventually diagnosed with congenital glaucoma. He stated that his mother's decision to give birth to him and overrule the doctor's advice was the inspiration for him to oppose abortion.
Bocelli grew up on his family's farm where they sold farm machinery and made wine in the small village of La Sterza, a frazione of Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy, about 40 km (25 mi) south of Pisa. His mother and younger brother Alberto still live in the family home; his father died in 2000.
Bocelli showed a great passion for music as a young boy. His mother has said that music was the only thing that would comfort him. He started piano lessons at age 6 and later learned to play the flute, saxo-phone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums. His nanny Oriana gave him the first record of Franco Corelli, and he began to show interest in pursuing the career of a tenor. By age 7, he was able to recognize the fa-mous voices of the time and tried to emulate the great singers.
At age 12, Bocelli lost his sight completely following an accident during a football game. He was hit in the eye playing goalkeeper during a match and suffered a brain hemorrhage. Doctors resorted to leeches in a last-ditch effort to save his sight, but they were unsuccessful and he remained blind.
Bocelli also spent time singing during his childhood. He gave his first concert in a small village not far from where he was born. He won his first song competition at age 14 with "'O sole mio" at the Margherita d'Oro in Viareggio. He finished secondary school in 1980, and then studied law at the University of Pisa. To earn money, he performed evenings in piano bars, and it was there that he met his future wife Enrica in 1987. He completed law school and spent one year as a court-appointed lawyer. When we let God decide, disability does not mean the end of life!
When We Let God Decide: The What If With Andrea Bocelli
Come to think about it
Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses Faith has bestowed the light of Reason on the human mind, God cannot deny Himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth. Reason and Faith (that is, right Reason and true Faith in real Revelation) do not contradict each other. Faith is NOT believing blindly. In fact, we need a LOT of logic, reason and thinking to be able to see the truth, beauty, order and love of God for us. Understand it in terms of any human
relationship: we would like to know more before we make a decision to love, right? And always, the first step is to take the first step, and see where it goes. The decision to continue, or to drop off, is all up to you. Come and see! If you have any questions needing answers, whether wanting to have a relationship with God is what is missing in your life, why not at least inquire about it? The Come-and-See is ongoing. Call Stel-la at 503-256-5850 ext. 204, or email at [email protected], or even drop a note at the Parish Office, or drop by for a visit during office hours. We will make it happen!

If you have someone in the family who would like to see if they can be altar servers, let them take a look at these pictures! Does it take training? Yes. Does it require work? Yes. Does it change something for God? Yes, it does! God has set or design a form of worship for us to ensure that we get the most of what He gives. That form of worship is the Mass that we attend, and altar servers hold a spe-cial place in that form of worship. What better way to know more about God than to serve in His Mass? Let us know if someone in your family would be interested to know more about being altar servers. Call the Office 503-256-5850 and look for Stella, visit during office hours or email at [email protected].

I have a feeling that I am missing something.
My life has no direction – I do not know where it is going.
I thought that what I have right now would make me happy but I still feel something is missing.
I feel incomplete even when I am successful in what I do.
I find myself thinking about life, what it is all about.
I wish I am confident that I am making the right decisions.
There is emptiness in my life, something is lacking.
In spite of my success, my family, my friends, I am not completely content.
I am not sure if I am making right decisions about my choices in life.
I wonder what will really make me fulfilled and complete.
I wish I could find out what this sense of lacking something is all about.
I find it difficult to have hope.
are you missing something?
If you said “yes” to most of these: please call or email. This journey is according to your own speed or pace. All you have to do is take the first step, meet, and see if you would like to continue. It might be a yes, it might be a no, but at least you would know that you did not miss an opportunity. It is hard to keep wondering! Call Stella at 503-256-5850, or email at [email protected]
